MARTIN LUTHER ON ANTICHRIST Chris discusses the progression of the understanding of Martin Luther concerning his belief that the Pope was the Antichrist prophesied in Scripture. Interestingly, it is not something Luther had always believed, and he admitted that as a monk he had zealously defended papal authority. Yet after the publication of his 95 Theses against the sale of indulgences, and witnessing the stubborn opposition of the Pope to the teachings of Scripture, his views changed and he was convicted that the Papacy represented the very enemy of Christ Himself. Luther defined as "antichrist" any person or belief that opposed the Gospel of salvation. But are the principles he argued are still pertinent for the Church today?
