It is easy to get discouraged about the state of evangelicalism in the United States and particularly so in the American South, or, the "Bible Belt." So much of Christianity in the South is cultural. Almost all evangelical churches will profess faith in the Bible and proclaim it to be inerrant but their fidelity to Scripture wanes when the Scripture becomes inconvenient or when it challenges long-held church tradition. Many go to church but few actually study their Bibles. When talking with church-going evangelicals outside of church there is precious little if any discussion of doctrine, theology, or the things of the Lord in general. No fellowship around the Word. I just returned from preaching at a church in Cullman, Alabama and it was a breath of fresh air. I had wonderful fellowship with many there and left quite encouraged. In this program I will tell you about the trip, some of the people I met and how God has worked in their lives - dramatically so. God does have His people out there.
