Will Obama/Holder Stop FBI Probe?<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Left-wing activists showed up outside the FBI headquarters on Tuesday afternoon to protest FBI raids on what they and the media are calling "anti-war" and "peace" groups. But the evidence that some U.S. activists are involved with terrorist groups in the Middle East and Latin America is substantial.

Medea Benjamin of Code Pink was the most prominent personality to attend the Washington, D.C. "rally," which featured only about a dozen or so people mostly wandering around and holding signs denouncing the FBI. Eventually, they paraded around in a line in front of the FBI building and used a bullhorn to chant such phrases as, "From Colombia to Palestine, resistance is not a crime."

It looked like the number of journalists covering the event may have approached the number of people participating in it. However, anti-FBI protests in other cities reportedly generated hundreds of participants.

In the nation's capital, one Code Pink activist pranced around and posed for the media while wearing pink sunglasses. Others held protest signs from the ANSWER (Act Now to Stop War and End Racism) group and the International Action Center. ANSWER is a front of the communist Party for Socialism and Liberation.

Leaflets on behalf of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) were passed out. The leaflets claimed the terrorist label applied to the PFLP and other terrorist organizations was being used to "criminalize" so-called "popular resistance and national liberation movements."

The complete list of officially designated foreign terrorist organizations includes several Palestinian groups as well as the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), which has links to the Hugo Chavez regime in Venezuela and works to overthrow the democratically elected government of Colombia.
While a "Palestine Video" website covered the protest at the FBI building, even this cameraman could not hide the paltry number of protesters. The video ran under the headline, "Obama's FBI Gets Earful from Protesters at Washington, D.C. Rally," but the fact is that the FBI investigations could, if they are carried to their logical conclusion, possibly uncover links by some of the protesters and the activists under investigation to the President himself.

As we noted in a previous column, Obama associates Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn, former leaders of the communist terrorist Weather Underground, have themselves traveled to Venezuela and the Middle East in recent years to show "solidarity" with anti-American governments and movements. They recently showed up in Germany on a panel with former members of the Red Army Faction, a violent terrorist group that killed U.S. military personnel and bombed U.S. military bases during the 1970s.

Anti-communist New Zealand blogger Trevor Loudon, who has specialized in exposing  Barack Obama's communist connections, reveals that several of the terror suspects whose homes were raided in Chicago worked for a political movement that once included Obama and even sponsored the start of his political career. Loudon focused on the connections of Chicago activists Stephanie Weiner and Joseph Iosbaker, whose residence was searched.

Some reports indicated that the Chicago home of homosexual activist Andy Thayer was raided, but he has denied that account. It was also reported that the home of Tom Burke of the Colombia Action Network was raided, but that has been denied as well, although Burke reportedly was served with a subpoena to appear before a grand jury investigating the links of U.S.-based organizations to foreign terrorist groups.

Thayer is a leader of the Gay Liberation Network, a Chicago-based group also led by Bob Schwartz, an acknowledged Trotskyite communist.

The Freedom Road Socialist Organization (FRSO), whose offices were raided by the FBI in Minneapolis, has called the FARC "the leading force in the struggle for national liberation and socialism in Colombia." The FBI search warrant sought evidence linking FRSO activist Michael Kelly to having provided "material support to designated foreign terrorist organizations," including FARC, PFLP and Hezbollah.

In Minneapolis, the Anti-War Committee (AWC) reports that its offices and the homes of two of its members, Jess Sundin and Meredith Aby, were also raided. The group says "This suppression of civil rights is aimed at those who dedicate their time and energy to supporting the struggles of the Palestinian and Colombian peoples against U.S. funded occupation and war" and is demanding:

·       Stop the repression against anti-war and international solidarity activists.
·       Immediately return all confiscated materials: computers, cell phones, papers, documents, etc.
·       End the grand jury proceedings against anti-war activists.

In a shocking development, former FBI special agent Coleen Rowley has taken up the cause of the "victims" of the raids, using the Huffington Post as her mouthpiece. Ironically, Rowley had made a name for herself as a whistleblower by disclosing how the FBI had failed to pursue evidence of an al-Qaeda terrorist in the U.S. before 9/11.

But after serving as Time Magazine's person of the year in 2002 and then leaving the agency, Rowley went over to the political left and claims in her columns on the recent FBI raids that the FBI is targeting "the peace and social justice community." Rowley unsuccessfully ran for Congress in 2006 on the Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) Party ticket.

For her authority in such matters, Rowley is citing an official of the National Lawyers Guild, the group once branded a Communist Party front and still associated with the International Association of Democratic Lawyers (IADL), the old Soviet front. One of the IADL's current campaigns is to free the "Cuban Five" convicted and imprisoned in the U.S. for spying for the Castro dictatorship.

Her Huffington Post articles are being reprinted from the "War is a Crime" website, originally dedicated to opposing the Bush-Cheney Administration and the Iraq War.

As the demonstrations against the raids suggest, the charge of providing material support of terrorism is very serious and could land the "peace" activists in prison for many years.

Based on the campaign they are waging, in the form of letters and emails to Attorney General Eric Holder, it appears they are counting on the Obama Administration to rein in the FBI and stop the criminal proceedings before any activists are indicted and convicted.

During his stint in the Clinton Administration, Holder was directly involved in the Clinton pardons of Weather Underground members Linda Evans and Susan Rosenberg.

In 2002, after being pardoned by Clinton, Evans announced that she was attending the "first Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual/Transgender Pride weekend I will celebrate in freedom!" She left the penitentiary to receive a "Soros Justice Fellowship," named after the billionaire leftist George Soros who provided it, and became an activist on behalf of criminals in prison.

She may have more clients if the FBI investigations are allowed to proceed and charges are forthcoming.         Cliff Kincaid is the Editor of Accuracy in Media, and can be contacted at cliff.kincaid@aim.org.
