What's a Conservative to do about the Republican Primary?
By Dr. David M. Berman
It will never cease to amaze me how the politically correct Politicians just do not get it. I have been involved in the grass roots social and fiscal conservative movement for over 20 years. I remember when I was 16 years old the optimism that came back to our great nation when Ronald Reagan was elected. Do you remember? Those of you who were too young may not remember (or simply choose not to remember) the terrible place we were in during the Jimmy Carter years. His lack of leadership was crippling to the economy with high unemployment and 21% interest rates. Having said that, what was even more demoralizing than the terrible economy was Carter's and the Democratic Party's lack of optimism in American founding principles. In typical liberal thinking he acted on the idea that more government and higher taxes were the answer. For example, he pushed for the establishment of the federal education department. We now have that monster sucking billions of tax payer dollars up with the result being an education system that has become a nightmare. Ronald Reagan came to the presidency with the belief in God and country. You know, that old fashioned way of thinking that is no longer in vogue with the politically correct. The result of Reagan's conservative principles brought great economic prosperity in the 1980's and began the Reagan revolution. He began the process of changing congrass from over 40 years of liberal Democratic Party rule of the legislative branch of government. Not only were the 1980's a great time of prosperity, they were also a time of large private charity giving. America was back because we again believed in what this nation was founded on; the optimistic belief in our founding principles of limited government along with respect for God and country.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
Fast forward to 1994 and we get the results of the seeds sown by the great Ronald Reagan. The Republican Party takes over the house and goes on to take the senate, and the presidency. Many of us who worked so hard were very excited at the possibilities of finally going back to the limited government principles of our founding fathers: God and country, respect for the right to "life liberty and the pursuit of happiness", personal property rights, low taxes, and small government. What did we get? We got big government, new entitlement monstrous programs, and next to nothing done to protect life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. People are now more dependent on the nanny state than ever. Corruption abounds in both parties and those of us who fought so hard for a party that we hoped would do the right thing were stabbed in the back.
At this point, no real grass roots conservative is willing to back anyone that has not proven his honor and integrity. Mitt Romney is suddenly "pro life" and "pro traditional family". This new revelation supposedly came to him conveniently as he decided to run for the Republican nomination. We are supposed to believe that he is a true pro lifer? Next we have Rudi Giuliani who wants to be president because he says that he is best to protect us from terrorists. However he is in favor of people having the "right" to terrorize their unborn child by killing him or her in the womb. Let me get this straight, I am to believe that the best person to lead our country, defend our values, and protect us from terrorists is a man who believes that people have a right to murder their own children? He states that he "hates abortion" but thinks that others should have the right to kill their own babies. That is like a person saying "I hate slavery but I think that others who believe differently should have the right to keep slaves". That is not logical! If you believe something is as morally reprehensible as to say you "hate it", you fight against it. John McCain (who I respect as a war hero) thinks that amnesty for illegal aliens is a good idea along with higher taxes. He wants to be the leader of the conservatives by supporting the worst immigration bill in history? Ok, Let me attempt to understand this one, I am supposed to vote for and trust a man to defend us from terrorists who thinks we can't even defend our borders?
I was at the first New Hampshire Republican presidential debate for the nomination for 2008. I was disappointed by the continued assumption by the news media that Romney, Giuliani, and McCain were the front runners. Most of the debate time went to them. There are other candidates who would like to speak. There are good men who would like to serve as president but we are given the same old nonsense time and time again by the establishment. As bad as that is, the Democrat's are ever worse with the idea of Hillary Clinton being the best they have to offer. One can only shutter at the thought or her becoming president. Yikes! Hold on to your wallet, grab your guns and run for the hills!!!
So what do we conservatives do? Do we do the same thing and vote to nominate the slick Mitt Romney? Do we look the other way concerning Giuliani's absurd position on abortion? Do we vote for McCain simply because he is a war hero? Do we listen to the sell outs who say "we must nominate a so called "electable candidate"?  I remind you that we were told that about Bob Dole and we got four more years of Bill Clinton.
We only have 4 choices. We can vote as we are lead by the establishment, we can vote for a third party, we can decide not to vote, or we can actually vote for a man with a proven track record. What choice will you make? What choice is there? Is there anyone that deserves our respect and vote? As one who is as frustrated as any true conservative is with President Bush and the Republican Party, I say there is one candidate that I can totally support.
Who is this man that has my confidence? Who is this man that truly believes in God and country? Who is this man that has the optimism in the founding values of our great nation? Who is this man? His name is Tom Tancredo. Rep. Tancredo (Colorado) is a man of honor. He understands that the reason the Republicans lost the house and senate is because they did not hold to conservative principles. He lead the fight in congress in standing for defense of our borders when it was not popular to do so.  He has been called every name in the book for standing for his country. Rep. Tom Tancredo is a man who is passionate about his conservative principles and will not back down to pressure even from his own party. He has the track record to prove it. With the so called "front runners" you get double speak. With Tancredo you get truth and action. I know Tom Tancredo and I feel strongly that he is a man that can be trusted. If you long for a return to sanity, if you hope for the values of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, you must vote Tancredo for president. No other has the experience, values, conviction, and the downright guts needed to lead this country back to conservative principles.
We do not need more of the same slick doubletalk that we have experienced from the establishment. We need a real American with strong family values and a record to prove it. I support Tom Tancredo for president not because of political promises, we have heard those before. I support Tancredo because he has delivered on his promises with a track record of conservative votes. I know him personally, and I know he is a man of faith in almighty God. Please do not give into the temptation to follow after the so called "Republican leaders". They are not worthy of our confidence. Please do not allow yourself to be so defeated as not to vote. At this point I ask you not to go third party. Tom Tancredo is our man. Let me make something very clear. I do not work for Tom Tancredo. I do not receive anything from his campaign for this endorsement. I simply believe in him being the best choice. When I go into the voting booth and cast my vote for Tom Tancredo, I will do so with satisfaction that I have voted for a great man. I implore you to consider voting for Tom Tancredo in the primary so we may have a true Constitutional conservative who is optimistic about our nation as it returns to the founding principles. Please pass this article to everyone you have on your e mail list. Declare your independence from the establishment and spread the news that Tom Tancredo is the choice for  life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. God bless America!
