6 - The Christian and Conservative Taliban
 

 
I had not intended to send out a commentary this week due to our annual event beginning tonight. However, Gary Bauer has sent out a warning that Christians and Conservatives must take seriously. Bauer was one of my conference speakers in the spring of 2005 and has had a handle on Washington since the Reagan Administration. I am summarizing his comments.
"In the decades I have spent in Washington 'fighting the good fight,' I don't think I have ever seen politics sink to this cesspool level. It is becoming clearer by the day that a cadre of left-wing 'hit men' and 'slash and burn' organizations intend to destroy conservatives, Christians, and the pro-family movement and anyone else who stands in their way of getting power this November. They intend to release a list of names soon to destroy political careers in the hope that millions of pro-family voters will stay home on election day.
"Here is the bigger picture. The Left is increasingly consumed by its hatred of all things conservative and Christian. They despise you and me. I regularly go to the leftwing Websites to review the postings and what I read there is deeply disturbing. We (Christians, conservatives) are routinely called fascists, bigots, the Taliban and veiled threats of violence are not uncommon.
"Right now they smell 'blood in the water' and they believe they are on the verge of wresting control in Washington from conservatives. One things stands in the way--you. That is why they have now unleashed a campaign to confuse and demoralize pro-family voters.
"Here's the bottom line in my view. Yes, there is corruption in politics and there are people in both parties who have fallen prey to all the temptations of our culture. No party has a monopoly on virtue or vice.
"Today a leftwing group filed a freedom of information request demanding to know how often and when I and other pro-family leaders like James Dobson and Tony Perkins have been included in meetings at the White House. Apparently it is now considered suspicious to the Left for Christians to even talk to the executive branch of our government. This group is reportedly funded by leftwing billionaire George Soros.
"As the public debate in our country becomes more vicious and destructive, please pray for us here speaking up for you that we may be clear thinking and strong as we defend family and faith.
"Pray for our nation to survive this destructive brand of politics."
Bauer is in no way trying to sanitize the deplorable Foley situation; rather, to sound an alarm to Christians and pro-family people that we are in the line of fire and that it will burn hotter and hotter as the weeks and months go by. The Left, whether they are in government, the pulpit, our colleges--anywhere, does not always have America's best interests in mind.
Like Bauer, I will receive hate mail for passing on his comments, but truth is truth. The emphasis is not politics but a plea for the good of America and the values we hold dear.
