They Are Committed to Ecumenicalism: Reason Twelve of Sixteen Reasons The World's False Religions Can Unite

By Brannon S. Howse

The Church of Rome held the Vatican Council II from 1962 to 1965, which was also known as the 21st Ecumenical Council of the Catholic Church, and it led to some seriously disturbing relationships with other religions. At a meeting with the Dalai Lama in 1986, Pope John Paul II prayed at the tomb of Gandhi in New Delhi. The Church of Rome is also one of the biggest drivers of the international ecumenical movement, as exemplified in an address by John Paul II to the World Council of Churches in Geneva, Switzerland, where he said, “

From the beginning of my ministry as Bishop of Rome I have insisted that the engagement of the Catholic Church in the ecumenical movement is irreversible.”

And as if putting the pope’s declaration into practice on the streets, Mother Teresa once remarked, “If in coming face to face with God we accept him in our lives, then we become a better Hindu, a better Muslim, a better Catholic, a better whatever we are; what God is in your mind you must accept.”

So the Church of Rome champions ecumenicalism throughout the world, but what about the New Apostolic Reformation and Word of Faith? Again, C. Peter Wagner is a spokesperson for the position they take:

[quote] Traditionally the message of the gospel in Latin America has appealed to the working class, but changes have begun to take place, and many middle and upper class people are now opening their hearts to Jesus Christ. Some of this is happening through the Catholic charismatic movement. [end quote]

As I already mentioned, Wagner is also known for promoting the Third Wave, the idea of including charismatic Catholics in a worldwide revival that would allow all participants to embrace kingdom values and take dominion of the world from the unsaved and from secularists and to establish the kingdom of God on earth. They falsely believe their success in doing so would open the door for Christ’s return.
