We begin 2017 with a look at the fake news phenomenon.  In this week’s boralogue, John points out the hypocrisy of those who believe in relative truth but are outraged by fake news and shows how Martin Luther, the Renaissance, and the last 500 years have led to better access and control of information.

Dutch politician Geert Wilders was recently found guilty of violating his country’s hate speech laws. William Watkins (www.independent.org), Research Fellow at the Independence Institute, shows that hate speech laws are purposefully vague and references the Alien and Sedition Acts of 1798 to show that it has happened in the U.S. before.

Will the Trump administration stick to its campaign promises in regards to education?  Alex Newman (www.thenewamerican.com), Correspondent for The New American, looks at the need for education reform, including an overhaul of Common Core, and how Trump’s pick of Becky Devos for Education Secretary most likely means reform is out for now.

Will the United States be ready should an EMP destroy our electric grid.  Bill Forstchen (www.onesecondafter.com), History Professor at Montreat College, discusses the threat of EMP, preparedness by not only individuals but also government, and his belief that the Trump administration will take the threat seriously.

Finally, is it worth trying to evangelize to people who are militantly atheist, especially on the internet? London-based Baptist Minister Mark Woods (www.christiantoday.com), advises that while trolls can discourage, there is always someone out there who gets the message.  Time management and self-discipline are key elements when engaging others.

John’s quote of the week:

“The idea of the Christian humanists was that every human being has inherent dignity before God and being personally responsible before God for his or her conduct.  That caused radical changes in western civilization; the idea of individual ability and individual responsibility.”
