Guest: Dr. John Whitcomb joins us for another installment of Ask Dr. John. Question: In Matthew 1:21 the angel tells Joseph to “call his name Jesus.” Yet in Matthew 1:23 it states they should “call his name Emmanuel.” Why are there two different names listed? Question: Why are the two versions of the Lord’s prayer (Matt. 6:9-13; Luke 11:1-4) so different? Question: Please explain how the Sabbath was changed to the first day of the week rather than the seventh day. I do not see how Sunday can be the Sabbath, and see no explanation of any change. Question: What would you say to encourage a young person who is interested in serious study of the Bible, yet feels that what is being presented in their church is inadequate? Question: What is the significance of the millennium? Why is it a thousand years? I know the Bible says so, but couldn't everything be accomplished in 300, 500 or 777 years? Is it because mankind has never lived a thousand years? Question: I often hear people talk about sanctification as a process. Isn't it a one-time event at salvation, like justification? I really cannot seem to find any verses that support it as being a process. Question: What portions of Scripture should be our main areas to focus on in these last days? Question: How should Christians respond to the Supreme Court’s decision to endorse gay marriage?
