Will Israel's War Become Regional?

In 1993 Israel capitulated to Islamic terror by signing the Oslo Accords. Many, but not all, of Israeli leaders are secular and thus are secular humanists. Many do not take the Bible into consideration. Secular humanists believe that if you treat the bad guys with kindness, tolerance, and respect, they will eventually love you and make peace with you. It's a flawed philosophy (and theology) because the likes of al-Qaida, Hamas, Hezbollah, al-Aksa Martyrs Brigade, Yaser Arafat & Co, and more, will not comply with this pie in the sky. Yet secular humanism always believes in the basic goodness of man, not the evil spoken of in the Bible.
Because many of Israel's leaders including Ehud Olmert think this way, the winds of war are blowing in Israel and could turn into the winds of a hurricane. Bottom line: "Land for peace" resulted in "land for war."
Many warned Israel's leaders that the Gaza pull-out would result in this and even the pull-out of Lebanon in 2000. We also sounded a strong alarm that the planned pull-out from 90% of Judea and Samaria would be an even greater disaster. Few would listen including our State Department and White House although President Bush was not wild about the Judea and Samaria disengagement as it did not follow the prescribed Road Map.
It's difficult for Americans to grasp the implications to us and the rest of the West. Two issues quickly stand out. One, that the world's economy could totter as a result of this conflict. Secondly, that because of these Islamic victories (the pull-outs), more Muslims will lured into jihad. Thus this Middle East conflict is our war--and the world's war--not just a Middle East skirmish. It is just another wing of worldwide jihad. Remember, it was Hezbollah who killed hundreds of our Marines in Lebanon in 1983.
Iran is behind the scheme and she timed it perfectly as Iran was under pressure to negotiate her own nuclear issues. Thus, she used Hezbollah (party of god) in Lebanon to avert attention, particularly at the G-8 meetings. At the same time she sent a message to the world that Iran can disrupt things any time she wishes to do so.
The obvious concern is a much wider war drawing in Syria and Iran in an even bolder way. The Syrian Ambassador has said that Israel's nuclear installations could be targeted by Syria. Israel certainly could respond to any serious strike by Sryia, particularly if Syria's chemical weapons were used, and bring about the fulfillment of Isaiah 17. Here was read of a fatal strike on Damascus. Israel could further widen the conflict if she chose to take our Iran's nukes in retaliation.
Ehud Olmert has shown remarkable strength in light of his left-wing dove philosophy. He said in 2005, "We are tired of fighting, we are tired of being courageous, we are tired of winning, we are tired of defeating our enemies. We want them to be our friends, our partners, our good neighbors, and I believe that is not impossible." Perhaps he is thinking twice about the basic goodness of man who can be reformed if treated right--again the secular humanist gospel.
Additionally, Israel is battle-fatigued and is starving for peace which has deluded her into this kind of thinking. It is this hunger, in part, that drives her less discerning leaders into flawed agreements that try to appease their sworn enemies.
Yes, Israel can be her own worst enemy but that doesn't mean we let down our prayer effort on her behalf. As the entire world rages against her, in this present crisis only America and Bible-believing Christians remain her friends, giving her the freedom to defend herself.
Praying for the peace of Jerusalem (Ps. 122:6) is a commandment, not an option. God will prevail on her behalf but that does not mean this current scenario couldn't spiral out of control.
