Putin’s Dialectic

The Democratic Party is traditionally closer to … social democratic ideas. And it was from the social democratic environment that the Communist Party evolved. After all, I was a member of the Soviet Communist Party for nearly 20 years. I was a rank-and-file member, but it can be said that I believed in the party’s ideas. I still like many of these left-wing values. Equality and fraternity. What is bad about them? In fact, they are akin to Christian values.

VLADIMIR PUTIN

President Vladimir Putin of Russia gave an interview this past week in which he denied interfering in American elections. He was asked which candidate appealed to him more? — Trump or Biden? “We are onlookers,” responded Putin; “we do not interfere in the process.” Regarding allegations that Russia had interfered with American elections in the past, he said, “It is proof of the standard of the political culture [in America] — or the lack thereof.”

Putin was mildly amused at the credit he has received (from Democrats) for manipulating the 2016 election. Referring to Trump’s impeachment earlier this year, Putin noted, “when anyone tries to humiliate or insult the incumbent head of state, in this case … this actually enhances our prestige, because they are talking about our incredible influence and power. In a way, it could be said that they are playing into our hands….”

The double-edged subtlety of Putin’s remarks did not stop there. Putin admitted that President Trump was interested in improving Russian-American relations. While this was certainly appreciated in Moscow, the reality of Trump’s policy turns out to be negative toward Russia. According to Putin, “the greatest number of various kinds of restrictions and sanctions were introduced during the Trump presidency.” Trump imposed new sanctions or extended existing sanctions 46 times and withdrew from the INF Treaty, the Russian president said.

Then Putin began to analyze the Democrats. He noted the “rather sharp anti-Russian rhetoric” of the Democrats. Yet the Democrats share European social democratic ideas, and these are also the ideas of the Communist Party Soviet Union. This was the party Putin belonged to for nearly twenty years. Putin admitted, “I believed in the party’s ideas. I still like many of these left-wing values. Equality and fraternity. What is bad about them? In fact, they are akin to Christian values.” Therefore, he insisted, there is “an ideological basis for developing contacts with the Democratic representative.”

Then, with a wink to Black Lives Matter, Putin said: “It is a fact that African Americans constitute … one of the electorates of the Democratic Party. It is a well-known fact…. The Soviet Union also supported Africa Americans’ movement for their legitimate rights.” Putin added:

Back in the 1930s, Communist International leaders wrote that both black and white workers had a common enemy — imperialism and capitalism. They also wrote that these people could become the most effective group in the future revolutionary battle. So, this is something that can be seen … as common values, if not a unifying agent for us. I am not afraid to say so. This is true. Do you remember … a time when huge portraits of Angela Davis, a member of the US Communist Party and an ardent fighter for the rights of African Americans, were on view around the Soviet Union?

The ideological comradeship between Soviet communists and American Democrats is now unmistakable, and Putin has chosen an interesting moment to wink at his American comrades. Many will feel surprise, perhaps even alarm at this sudden turnabout; but there is no turnabout at all. In general, the world has been tricked by the Russians. Putin is not a nationalist, as Russian nationalists have testified. Putin is not pro-capitalist. He still likes Marxist ideas, and so do his future partners in the Democratic Party. In fact, Putin said that Biden is “ready” to sign a “new strategic offensive reductions treaty” with Moscow.

How does Putin know what Biden is ready to agree to? Well, given Biden’s past relationships with “former” Soviet officials in Ukraine and Russia, and his family’s lucrative deals with communist China, the answer should be obvious. The fun thing for the former KGB colonel is that he can tell the truth, plainly and simply, while many observers simply won’t believe him. Meanwhile, the communists on America’s streets are encouraged by such remarks. They have a powerful ally in the Kremlin, and a powerful ally in Beijing. Therefore, the time is ripe to burn more high-end stores, force suburban whites to their knees, and overthrow the government.
