The Tampa Tribune recently editorialized, "Obama's record on abortion is extreme. He opposed the ban on partial-birth abortion - a practice a fellow Democrat, the late Daniel Patrick Moynihan, once called 'too close to infanticide.' Obama strongly criticized the Supreme Court decision upholding the partial-birth ban. In the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Illinois state Senate, he opposed a bill similar to the Born Alive Infant Protection Act, which prevents the killing of infants mistakenly left alive by abortion. And now Obama has oddly claimed he would not want his daughters to be 'punished with a baby' because of a crisis pregnancy - hardly a welcoming attitude toward new life."[1]
The "Born Alive Infant Protection Act" Barrack Obama opposed was defeated in 2001, 2002 and 2003. He spoke against it the first two years, and personally made sure[2] it did not make it out of the Health and Human Services Committee he chaired in 2003.[3]
The purpose of that bill[4], which is clearly stated in its text, was simply to make clear that it would be illegal to kill a baby who had lived through an abortion and whose heart was still beating or who was breathing on his own.
How can Mr. Obama justify killing babies who are breathing on their own? The answer is that he does not try to, he simply does not see it as morally or legally wrong.
In a March 2, 2008 campaign speech at Hocking College in Nelsonville, Ohio, Mr. Obama told the crowd that he believes his extreme abortion positions in favor of legalized abortion throughout the entire term of pregnancy (and even after a baby survives the abortion)  does not make him "less Christian", saying: "I have been a member of the same church for 20 years, pray to Jesus every night, and I try to go to church as much as I can when they are not working me. Used to go quite often."[5]
Exactly a week after Mr. Obama gave that speech on a college campus, George Tiller, an abortionist who specializes in late-term abortions, spoke at the Women's Leadership Conference, on March 9, 2008, hosted by the National Education Association in Washington D.C.
During Tiller's talk, he said he had aborted viable babies to healthy mothers as late as one day before the mother's due date. The audience at the NEA applauded his talk, and one of the conference leaders, Kathy Spillar, vice president of Feminist Majority Foundation, called his decision to do so "courageous."
Perhaps we can't change the minds of Mr. Obama, George Tiller, or Ms. Spillar, but we can take a simple Saturday morning stroll to help the women right here in our community who are facing unintended pregnancies and assist in giving them real choices -- compassionate choices -- that are right for them and for their babies.
Tracy Sasso, Novum Baptist's 2008 Walk for Life coordinator,  wrote this poem, "Walk for Life", to commemorate this year's event:
Walk for the innocent without a voice
Walk for the Mom to make the right choice
Walk for the Dad who feels there's no hope
Walk for the people who help them to cope
Walk For the child who cries out to be born
Walk For the life of the Mom who feels torn
Walk For the ones who have nowhere to turn
Walk For the people who help them to learn
Walk for the Life that God chose to make
Walk for the Life made in His name's sake
Walk for the Life of each precious one
Walk for the Life in the name of His Son

Culpeper's annual Walk For Life event to help support the Pregnancy Centers of Central Virginia will be held on April 12th, 2008 with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Culpeper Baptist Church.
