You must realize that the KJV is only a translation itself, as well. The original are in Hebrew and Greek. If you want the TRUE "versions" you need to go back to them.

Regarding the King James - I use it quite frequently, but it bothers me that it doesn't capitalize Deity pronouns and it mentions Easter. There are other concerns with it. Many KJV only folks are so dogmatic about it they become legalistic. I do agree that the modern translations fall short and we need to be Bereans. In fact, The Message is a mess and the NIV is not a good translation-any thought for thought is not good. We use the New King James in our church and I like it and believe it is a reliable translation.
We have been on missions to a Spanish-speaking country with KJV only people-the KJV cannot be translated into Spanish and causes confusion. But these folks insisted on using that transation even when the Gospel message was hindered by doing so. This is legalism.

Walter Martin says cults use the Bible and the name of Jesus for credibility and then they relate to people better than Christians do.
It seems he wants us to take our game up a notch and have REAL answers for people.
He is right.
It's interesting that one of the largest campus outreach organizations is now focusing on being more "conversational" instead of having REAL answers and doing their homework.
Would Walter Martin call this organization a cult?

it amazes me that there are still people that think the only true version of the Bible is the KJV. It's decent enough, but it has some short comings. it was translated in a time when we had a limited number of manuscripts. with fewer manuscripts comes less ability to compare the text on tough passages to see what the original intent was. not only is it not the best translation we have, but it actually has some mistakes that sone modern versions don't have. I.E. Romans 8:1,2. compare it with other versions. it adds something that is not supposed to be there.

What is our non-contradictory explanation for who God is that is different than the abstract definitions given by the cults?
If we can't explain our reason for faith in a non-contradictory manner, we are no better than the other religions.
There are Christians saying it is idolatry to describe God in a wrong fashion, yet they won't give their description...they'll stay abstract and say, "The Bible explains it." How does this help anyone?
We all agree on what the Bible says, yet we still disagree. We disagree on what the Bible means.
Understanding what the Bible means is the MOST IMPORTANT objective...
...yet we haven't made any progress in this area since this video.

I like it, a Bible spokesperson that is not P.C. He needs to come to my church where our preacher recently acknowledged that he was a fan of the beatles. I know them as one of the groups that were instrumental in bringing the drug culture to America with John Lennon maligning Jesus in his quotes. Everyone is afraid to be frank, however I don't recall where Jesus was afraid to speak or was embarrassed by what he had to say. Preachers nowadays worry more about who might not come again because of truth than they do about apologetics that might be abrasive to a non believer. -- Bill --
