Biblical Authorities

There are more verses than these; but to whet your appetite to see "where the Bible tells you to listen to men," look at Hebrews 13:7 and 1 Thessalonians 5:12. Also consider 1 Timothy 3:1-7 about overseers/elders to lead the church and Titus 1:6-9 on the same subject. The purpose is to shepherd, guard, teach, admonish, warn, and encourage the Christian church. Godly men are a treasure; we should follow those qualified and proven by character and godliness--without giving them a bunch of grief because they love you (Hebrews 13:17).

Jesus wants us to love ourselves

He made us in his image. If we can't be happy with what he has given us, why would he take so much care in creating us in his image?

Everyone is an Expert

We all feel that we have exclusively accurate interpretations of the Bible. We were there when it was written. We are experts in Hebrew and Greek. We have the authority to be critical of every one that does not see it our way. Come onto me all ye that labor and I will give you rest.....Christ appears to first tell people all about the positive aspects of his message...he reserved his message of damnation for those who "knew all" and were self rightious.
We must also distinguish the teachings of Christ from the teachings of his followers. There is a difference.
Finally, the pastors with weak claims to accademic or spiritual expertise, hide behind the vagueness of a special or unique understanding. The claim to have been spoken to directly by God has been made by true prophets and also by deceivers and charlatans.
Be very careful.....

It's good to go out and be a light in darkness. It's also good to invite darkness(a lost soul) into your light(church) to hear the WORD. BUT, to invite darkness to be the one doing all the teaching is not good.

JESUS WAS THROWN OUT AFTER HE SPOKE AT THE SYNAGOGUE

Jesus did NOT eat at the house of every Jew but He did eat at the house of Zaccheus because of the public repentance that Zaccheus made. A much better comparison is when Jesus went to the synagogue that the pharisees were the leaders of and preached. Most of the pharisees were preaching death and not life. But some of the pharisees were possibly not preaching lies for they recognized the fact that Jesus was from God. But there is a big difference here. There was still freedom for anyone to preach. Another bid difference is that Jesus was thrown out of every synagogue that He preached in. Lou

A robe and a degree....

Just give a guy a robe, degree, title and a microphone and you have people ready to fall at their feet and heed their words. Those who are respectors of men and their positions deserve everything they get...deception. Where in the Bible are we told to follow men, listen to lectures, or join denominations?

Robert Schuller definitely preaches "another gospel" which Paul warns about in Galatians. Many years ago I lived near his church so I attended an event there. Schuller addresed the group briefly and took questions from the group. He was asked about heaven, hell and sin. He denied the later two existed and it was at that point several people walked out, including myself. He speaks "Christianese" so he sounds "Christian" in some of his speech--but it is another gospel for sure.

"Love your neighbor as yourself". This word love translated in the Greek is agape love. My understanding of this verse is that we love the SOUL of others as we do our own. Indeed, all the issues of self-hatred, etc. stem as a RESULT of sin. When we die to self we are dying to all our fleshly desires. As we all know, when we are born-again new desires are placed in us because we are new creatures in Christ. I believe, no I know, that people with self-hatred need to be treated with compassion. People do need to know their value to God. After all, if we weren't worth something to Him He never would have sent His precious Son.
