Yes, I have heard of that. I believe some Catholic churches have been known to bless animals. Actually, I don't find that as rediculous as blessing the Christmas toys. One church a few years ago had a time of blessing the Christmas toys. I wondered if it was to ease the minds of the parents who were giving their kids Pokyman or Harry Potter stuff. Maybe some of those Grand Theft Auto games. Who knows but it seemed real wierd to me. I was raised Catholic and each winter, the Priest would bless us so that we would not get colds that winter. We would go to the alter and He would cross two candles and place them under our chin, around our neck and pray for us. It just seems to me, rather than having a special yearly ceremony to bless us so that we will not get colds or a special service to bless your animals, it would be better to teach people that they can pray for themselves and their own animals. (I pray for my dogs to be healthy and when they are sick I pray for them.) It sounds like another way of controlling people rather than teaching them to minister to one another. In the Catholic church the priest did everything. They didn't teach the people to do anything themselves. The bible says believers will lay hands on the sick and they will recover.

Yet another false teacher. We do live in scary times as predicted. I enjoyed your response to the article. When you mentioned the TV show on pets and yoga I thought about a service performed in our area. In our town a local church has a special blessing service once a year for pets. Can you believe it? The church parking lot is packed. Since when do we need to have our pets blessed? I'm wondering if you have heard of this. Thank you for your time.

Excellent assesment! As one former New Ager who practiced astrology and Christ deleivered me from my sin and satan's deceptions I can testify that Bob's warning is right on. If I have any constructive critism to his remarks I would encourged him to include more biblical reflections on our identity in Christ that comes through receiving the Gospel personally.

How many go rounds do we as the people of God have to see. We all know the scriptures say, that in the last days there will be false prophets (I do blieve in the true prophets of God) and false teachers. Every wind of doctrine. In reality there are a lot of good books that have been written in the kingdom of God but in reality there is only one book that we all must have and that is the Bible. It is enough! Our world, our media, our time, our crazy desire to be movie star important, to gain influence along with money and most important is that we are not being very very carful that we are not introducing ourselves to another spirit. Wow! Anyway, I agree with the lady from South Africa and her comment also. Thank you!

Excellent article. We need to be diligent otherwise the roaches will crawl into the house through any crack they can find. I mean that as an allegory since satan is quick to find any avenue possible to dilute the Gospel. Also, this hasn't happened overnight. Paganism has made inroads from the very early days. And how quickly we re-define pagan. Did you know Christmas was outlawed by the Puritans because they recognized it as a pagan festival? Now, if anyone dares to remind us that it is simply a re-dressing of a day dedicated to the pagan sun-god Mithras on Dec 25, that person is labeled as a kook who brings dissention to the body of Christ. Dare I mention Easter?

Nothing new, really.
People have been co-opting pagan and Wiccan elements for a very long time. Remember Larry Lea and his 'Tarry One Hour' system? The section where you turn to the North, South, East and West- that's a Wiccan ritual called 'warding'. Supposedly creates a force of protection around one. It was just one of many things about Lea's work that flipped me out. There's also problems with LaHaye's four Temperments: they come directly from Greco/Roman and medieval traditions- traditions that are based in humoral theory, astrology, and portions of the pantheon of gods. How can we trust this teaching when it has spurious sources?
I will admit to doing something similar. I've been teaching a Comparative Literature unit comparing the Harry Potter to classic Epic and Saga works. The Four Houses ('homerooms' sort of, that divide adminisration and provide a ready-made social circle. One of my students likened them to fraternities) are Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin. They embody strong personal traits of the students in them; in order, Courage, Hard Work, intellectualism, and 'Enlightened Self-Interest'. I tend to identify with the Gryffindor traits, my fiance with Ravenclaw. A number of my students have identified some of the heroes of the sagas, etc, with the personality trend in Harry Potter, and it is most enlightening when we are discussing archetypes. HP draws from a lot of classical works (Rowling was a Classics major in college) and is an exceptional tool for learning to identify broad themes, characterization and literary trope.
I DO NOT, however, attempt to liken the HP ethic or personality traits with Biblical study. To use a modern, fallible author to interpret the Scripture- how stupid is that? Well, stupid maybe, but not enough- too many people are still dabbling with outside 'understanding' of immutable Truth. And that is technique not to be trusted.

Thank you for your article - I am 100% in agreement with you.
I have to admit, that the personality profiles in Purpose Driven Life were my first RED LIGHT that all was not 'kosher' with the teachings in this particular book (and went on to discover more and more). And now this translating of these personality profiles into the four basic elements as they call it - is so pagan it is frightening. Why would we as Christians even want align ourselves with the works of the evil one when the Word specifically tells us not to even touch unclean things? What spiritual adultery - where will it end?

I am so sorry, I many of you wondering what a "hollieo prayer rider" is. Over in the Orient there happens to be a group of well respected but little known men who ride Camels through man made laberynths in the desert. They pray and meditate as they ride and they are known to do this for days on end.(has someethnig to do with the fact that the camel can go without water for a very long time.)Most of you have heard of the show on TV where you bring your pet and together you do Yoga? Well, "Let Her Rip" is hoping they can bring back this idea and reach the Equestrian Dressage Riders. Cowboys are already coming in and now EmergentsRus are targeting the more upscale Dressage group where they can bring their very own horses and take part in the prayer labyrinths together. Cool! Right? "No man left behind!" That's what they are saying!
