My heart goes out to Pastor Silva. As the saying goes, the truth hurts. Sharing the truth of scripture is certainly going to hurt many people. There is no way to point out error without it appearing to many people as unkind or judgemental. So many among us are inclined to "shoot the messenger" as they strive to bring us the truth of the gospel.
God is love. He is also truth. Please be encouraged to keep sharing the truth of the gospel Pastor Silva.

Thank you for your comments. I heartily agree that using people's own words are the most effective way for us to expose their teachings. What you may not realize is in a forum like this space is limited and I'm not able to do as much of that as I might prefer. However at my website: http://www.apprising.org/ you'll will find tons of materials like you suggest. As a starter I suggest my article "The Falling Away of the Evangelical Church" : http://www.apprising.org/archives/2005/08/the_falling_awa.html

i didn't see much in the way of examples from the text you are holding in contempt. It would be great if you could use the actual quotes to show how unscriptural the person or persons are. Other than that i agree. And would say sadly many of those men are false prophets of humanism and something far worse. LORD bless you please use more of their own words to prove your point.

Ken, thanks for your articles. I began reading PDL to my teens about 2-3 yrs. ago (when it had gained it's first popularity "wave"). I think we got to day 20 (and I'm ashamed to admit that) when I pitched the book in the trash. I made more "I don't agree with this" statements out loud to my teens and showed them the "truth" in scripture. I had too many "red flags" waving within my spirit to know this guy was only out to make money, not souls for Christ. I do know that God can work through people like RW *in spite* of what they are doing.
He says he comes from a Southern Baptist Background; so do I. I do know that Southern Baptists vary in the way they worship in other areas of the US. I have a cousin who said the SBCs were "dead" in California and so they chose an AOG church, but she said the SBCs in NW Arkansas were more alive and real in their worship. Maybe that's why RW felt he needed to write a book. <grin> JK, I know the real truth now.
I saw this book as another one of those "number crunching" books to add more members to the roster. He's not interested in growing disciples of Christ; he's in it for the numbers, fame/notoriety; "hey ma, look at me!", and I'd go so far to include the money aspect, too.
Honest-to-pete, he thinks he's done his church a favor by not drawing a salary from Saddleback Church after getting his millions from PDL??? I know of many preachers/pastors that I've sat under who did not draw a salary from their church, but was there leading the flock for the right reason. These teachers of mine have never received the "money" award here on earth, but will receive many "crowns" someday in heaven.
I'm not a Bible scholar by no means, just a "read my Bible everyday or close to it" type person and was able to see through this deception b/c I had already read THE "book of truth" to know I was reading a "lie." In order to know when you have a counterfeit $$ bill in your hand, you have to have studied what the real $$ bill looks like.

I appreciate the sincerity with which you express your disagreement, and I commend you for it. Please know I am in no way offended nor do I write in any other spirit but in love you as you ask. Your perceptions of what Rick Warren has done for you personally I cannot speak to. However, you say: "He is bringing the Gospel to the world." I would counter that instead Warren is bringing the world to the Gospel. Please understand that in light of 2 Timothy 2:24-25 I must tell you that it is evidenced that you do not fully understand love as you say: "If they are out of the will of God in some area,...pray for them and share with them privately." In Mark 12:28 we read Jesus was aggressively and publicly debating religious leaders, but then another man comes to Him in private and they have a different kind of discussion. This my model, publicly at times I might be "scathing" (see-Matt. 23), but as you see when you approached me "privately" I can show you another side as I am doing here, and like my Master does in Mark 12:28-31. I pray this helps you better understand how much I love the Body of Christ to accept this call from the Lord. And may you also come to understand the times in which we live. As the Devil more blatantly walks into our Lord's Church during this time of apostasy fueled by timid evangelical leaders there are those of us who recognize the gloves must come off. See my article "Take Off The Gloves" : http://www.apprising.org/archives/2006/04/take_off_the_gl.html

Dear Ken,
I am presently reading "The Purpose Driven Life." Rick Warren shares over a thousand different verses from the Bible in guiding me on a spiritual journey. God is speaking to me. God used Rick to share Jesus through this book to many, many people who may not have read those Scriptures in a Bible. He is bringing the Gospel to the world.
It hurts to read your scathing condemnation and name calling of Mr. Warren. I also visited your website and found many of your articles spewing hatred at other Christian leaders. If they are out of the will of God in some area, may we as Christian brothers and sisters pray for them and share with them privately. I'm afraid your articles will harm the name of Christ more than lift up the name of Christ.
I appreciate your concern for the body of Christ, the Church, but please don't tear off its limbs. Help me to see my sins and failures, but please love me in the process. Let's pray for each other.

You are probably very right, as we have exchanged an old fashioned God fearing personal relationship with Jesus Christ for what feels good and stirs our flesh and not what moves our souls to serve a true and living God.
