Obedience IS the key... yes! people misinterpret that into meaning that we are saved BY works, and that is NOT what it means. we are not saved BY good works - ONLY through the shed blood of our Savior. BUT, our works are evidence of whether or not we are saved (remember, He told us we would know the tree by its fruit, and every tree that bears bad fruit WILL be cut down and thrown into the fire - He also said, "not every one who says to Me 'Lord, Lord' will enter the kindgdom of heaven, but only those who DO My will"). over and over and over Jesus Himself made it clear that to be His disciple was no easy choice (and, yes, it involves a CHOICE on our part - following the Lord has ALWAYS involved choice). He Himself turned away many 'would-be followers' because He refused to allow christianity to become what WE have made it out to be with our 'false Christ of easy-believism' (Christ told us if we would LOSE our life for His sake , THEN we would find it - He did NOT say, 'keep your life and add Me on just for fun). shame on us all for leading people down the wide road to destruction... and then giving them the 'assurance of salvation' on top of it! all because they recited a prayer, signed a card, etc. - and then we wonder why God isn't blessing our churches (even though they might be 'growing in number', but not everything that grows is healthy (eg. cancer)! He is 'removing the lampstand', as He said He would. revival will come when we choose to repent and leave the false religion behind, and follow Him, and Him alone, wherever that may lead. the kind of 'non-repentant, easy believism christianity' that is being taught in so many churches is the kind of christianity that will fall right into the 'one world church' of tolerance and unity that will be allowed for a time by the antichrist. although we cannot stop this all from happening, we can CHOOSE to remove ourselves from it through repentance. God's very word says, "unless you repent, you will all likewise perish."
