The whole reason we are in this place of irrelavnce is because of our cowardly pulpit and ministers. Noone has held them accountable. We should have enforced our will in the 70's when they made it a law to allow the sucking out of babies brains. If we didn't do anything for that I don't believe it is warranted to do anything for something else. It's a harsh reality and very unappealing but it is what it is. We shouldn't have been so controlled by our ministers. We have only one High Priest.

Dear friend, it depends on which church you speak of; the false church or the true body of Jesus Christ. There has always been a true body of the Lord Jesus on this earth. If you read about the Pilgrims it appears that most of them were certainly part of that true body of Christ. Read "The Light and The Glory" and see how the hand of The Lord Jesus was upon them. They did not displace one Indian but made friends with them. The very fact that a Indian ,who could speak English, came walking into their village is itself a miracle. - Lou Newton

In the democracy of Athens the people voted to put Socrates to death because of what he believed and taught. Socrates had committed no crime. In our Constitutional Republic that is against our laws and the right to life is God given and not given by any government. Democracy becomes mob rule when not bound by God given rights and laws. - Lou Newton

The U.S. is a Constitutional Republic. The Constitution says nothing about democracy. The Founding Fathers did not like democracy because they did not trust it. They wanted liberty. Democracy is one hundred percent majority rule. Our Constitutional Republic establishes a rule of law that preserves certain basic rights of the minority. Thomas Jefferson said liberty is "unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others." Democracy is "two wolves and a sheep voting to decide what's for lunch." The founders were afraid of democracy, and to protect liberty they created the Constitution as a way to weaken democracy. The true Church that Jesus is building will never be irrelevant. Jesus said, "Thou art Peter and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." (Matthew 16:18). However, the other denominational religious concoctions which have been called "churches" have never been relevant in the eyes of God. Jesus said this to Peter because Peter saw that Jesus was the son of the living God; and that flesh and blood had not revealed this to Peter, but the Father in heaven. (Matthew 16:16-17). The Bible has only one Greek word, "ecclesia," for "church": the "called out ones." There are no steeples or bureaucracy here. George Cancilla

difference between a republic and a democracy?

I agree with about everything in this article. I wish I knew of a church that taught natural law. My church is strong in biblical standards, but I don't think they ever say anything about natural law.
The one thing I disagree about is this so called distinction between a republic and a democracy. I hear this all the time and am getting tired of it! Do people that bring up this distinction understand the definition of either term? A republic is basically any form of government which is not a monarchy or a dictatorship. Republics can have parliamentary or presidential governments. Virtually all republics are democracies. Indeed, I know of no example of a modern republic that is not also a democracy.
Democracies are governments in which the major government officials are chosen by elections. That is what the term means. It does not mean a government in which most decisions are made by popular vote. Such governments, sometimes called pure democracies, are totally impractical and do not exist. Governments such as Great Britain are partially democratic since there are elected representatives, but they also retain a monarchy. The bottom line is that all democracies are automatically republics (they are not monarchies) and all currently existing republics are also democracies. So lets stop asking if someone, "understands the difference between a democracy and a republic", okay?

I don't think I can entirely buy your romanticism with the historical American church. Where were these stalwarts as we systematically slaughtered and mistreated the American Indians - still a disgrace to this day. //Where was the Church as we adopted slavery and declared blacks were 2/3s human?// Where was the church in the next 100 year after the Civil War as Jim Crow laws mandated everything from seperate drinking fountains to only certain days blacks could go to zoos, etc.?// Sorry but it was the progressive Church for the most part that stood against these evils, not the evangelical church of history. They for the most part condemned the civil rights movement and thier leaders. // Yes we have a great country, but we have had many blind spots in the past which have been sanctioned by the conservative church you so proudly hold up as an example.

Chuck, you are correct in saying the church system in this nation has become evil. But this is nothing new. It was the church system in Israel that claimed to worship The Creator of all, but when He appeared to them they called Him Satan and crucified Him. It was the church system in Rome that taught people that they could buy a dead relatives way to heaven with mere money. Now we have a church system in this land that is observing Ramadan, which is a month taken by Muslims to thank "Allah" for the Koran. The Koran is not the truth, so how could people who claim to love The Truth be thankful for lies. The Lord Jesus Christ writes about this church system in The Revelation 18: 1After this I saw another angel coming down from heaven. He had great authority, and the earth was illuminated by his splendor. 2With a mighty voice he shouted:
"Fallen! Fallen is Babylon the Great!
She has become a home for demons
and a haunt for every evil spirit,(if Jesus was speaking of the old Babylon, He would not say, SHE HAS BECOME A HOME FOR DEMONS, for Babylon always was. Babylon the Great is not the old Babylon, but what is supposed to be good has become evil)
