Thank you for this great article, to anyone reading this post I ask you to please keep your latinos brothers and sisters in Christ in prayer, the majority of them have no idea of what the emergent chuch is.

In South Africa as well

This post-modern deception has overtaken churches in South Africa as well. For example, Brian McClaren, Leonard Sweet, Rob Bell and Doug Pagitt have visited, discussed and lectured at theological faculties and and churches. Thanks Eric and all American pastors who stand for the Truth in these perilous times! I have a friend exposing this influence in seminars, and he just completed the first of 3 videos exposing the Emerging influence in theological faculties and churches.

Rescued from "Emergent"

Brother Eric, I am grateful that believers are still writing about the Emergent movement. Many still are not aware of it and the subtle hi-jacking of bible preaching churches. By God's grace, our little Baptist church was rescued from Emergent clutches. Our young pastor was brought in by those who had no idea about Purpose Driven/Emergent about 10 years ago. During that time I, a "very suspicious about everything" former Catholic, felt something was wrong. During my 20 year study of anything contradicting Scripture, I was now concerned about what I was hearing and "not" hearing from the pulpit.(some of it sounded too Catholic!!, mystic fathers, etc. etc.) Time passes and during which my husband (the music leader!) and I began praying, "change our pastor's heart, move him or move us." We did not cause trouble, just continued to pray and spoke several times with the pastor privately which he initiated. About 1 year and 1/2 ago the now "former" pastor let us know he was moving back to his hometown to take over his dad's church. God is faithful!!! We found a new pastor within 3 months (other churches in the area have been looking for 3 years)and he is aware of Emergent/Postmodernism, preaches the gospel uncompromisingly. Our little Baptist church is now back on course. Because of Christ, Addie

It is sad that our LORD said HE would spue LC out of HIS mouth. Church would have to be in HIM to do this, so they will be left behind when "Fullness of Gentiles comes in" I have personally received Message "Jesus Christ is Coming Soon." Now that False President Obama is there until at least end of 2012 he will bring about conditions fulfilling conditions re End Times Prophecies. I am 73 yrs old so I will watch Emergent Church do what our LORD has said will take place. Kenneth

Pretty Good Article

Mr. barger, thank you for a pretty good article on the Emergent heresy masquerading as His church. I am very grateful that you didn't mistakenly use the 'emerging' distinction as a synonym. They are two different things although they come from the same roots like Arminianism and Calvinism came from the same reformation. One point that you made I do think is oversimplified; "It is a completely flawed concept to believe that postmoderns are somehow different than all generations before them and that if we are to reach them then we must change. Sin in the hearts of men is still the problem and the Cross is still the antidote! God has entrusted us with the ONLY message that can cure the sickness of sin. Who are we to change the message?" When modernity came after the pre-modern era, there was a huge difference in how moderns thought versus how premoderns thought. Moderns were man's reason focused versus premoderns who were god (or God) focused. Modernity brought the need for systematics and the need for solving the puzzle of God whereas premoderns didn't argue on the same basic issues because they accepted god (or God) as a way of life and thought. Postmodern thought will be different and postmoderns do view life through a different prism as there was a difference between the modern and premodern populations. In the end, I think your statement makes a broad statement that isn't espoused by many even in the Emergent and "postmodern" (really unltra-modern). Most don't think that postmoderns will be so different that a "new" antidote will be needed. Most think that the same antidote will need a new delivery system (like the difference between a pill and a liquid pharmaceutical) filled with the same antidote. Grace and Peace, Jim
