You run down Warren (amen!), yet you cruise with Haank ("send me a million dollars") Haandle-graafft!! Come off it, Steve!! "Beware the leaven of the pharisees, which is hypocrisy"

Rick Warren is on target.
Posted On: 12/05/08 11:28:40 AM Age 75, GA
Rick Warren was right on target. He told everyone about Jesus' role in salvation. He even gave an invitation, not unlike an invitation that might be given by any other true believer. The"money back guarantee" was very clever and represented small talk. No one could have come away from seeing and hearing that program uninformed about the truth of salvation through Jesus Christ alone. Jess

Repent for 60 days?
Posted On: 12/05/08 10:36:37 AM Age 47, IL
Rick Warren rarely uses the word "repent". Can we repent for 60 days and then go back to our old ways? Spurgeon would call this "the down grade."

Try Jesus
Posted On: 12/05/08 10:16:52 AM Age 36, TX
Psalm 34:8 O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him. I don't have the full context of what Warren meant by his comment of try Jesus for 60 days or your money back, but there is at least Biblical precedent for "trying Jesus" as quoted above. However, I'm not so sure about how he soft-steps the issue of Jesus being the one and only way. I think Warren believes in the one and only way through Jesus, but he is very non-confrontational in the way he said it. Is that what they need to hear? Would being dogmatic about it instead push others away instead of allowing them time to think about their position and why they believe the way they do? I don't know the details of this particular event, so I pass no judgement at this time. 1 Corinthians 9:20-22 [20] And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law; [21] To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law. [22] To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.

That's why I don't go to "church"
Posted On: 12/05/08 10:06:43 AM Age 46, FL
Every time I see a high-profile pastor/minister on a national talk show, I cringe. Warren on Hannity & Colmes was no exception. IMO, God gave him a national platform to proclaim the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ and like Joel Osteen, Ed Young Jr and others...he blew it. He couldn't even quote the entire verse of John 14:6, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. NO ONE COMES TO THE FATHER EXCEPT THROUGH ME!" Bereft of sound biblical doctrine and proper hermaneutical exegesis, these gifted people don't need to be behind the pulpit, they should go the route of John Maxwell, become motivational mavens in the secular circles, and leave dissemination of scripture to the theologians and apologists that can rightly divide the word of God. In my arduous journey back to the monotheism of the cross after many years of theosophical practice and a belief in a syncretistic diety, my "church" experience over the past six years has been dreadfully disappointing. As an entrepreneur and former founder and CEO of a multi-million dollar company, I struggled to see the line of demarcation between growing a secular business, and growing a 501c3 church. Brick and mortar churches any more, are nothing more than "social glee clubs" with an emphasis on attracting more card-carrying, paying members. The "church" no longer drives the sovereign purpose and will of God, the world dictates the direction of the synagogues of satan we call "church." I refuse to attend a 501c3 church that claims to be a voice for God, when in fact they're sold out to the state and pay payroll taxes that are used to pay for abortion and other non-Godly government programs. They're nothing more than cleverly disguised, tax-free, money-making machines, that in some cases make the ousted Wall street whoremongers look like desciples of Mother Teresa. Yes...I am a card-carrying member of church. I carry the card of Christ as a member of his sanctified, ekklesia. Semper Fi! Kevin A. Lehmann

25 years and still a Christian.

I don't think there was anything wrong with this, this time... I say that to say that in the past I definitely didn't agree with how Rick Warren handled presenting the gospel. But this time I could relate to him. I got saved hearing the gospel pure and unadulterated, but I told the Lord about 6 months into my walk, "I gave the world 24 years now I'll give you 24 years to prove yourself to me. Now I didn't know what I was saying but God met me where I was and it's been an incredible journey of 25 years with my Savior, he came through for me. I think Rev. Warren handled it very well and like Jesus did he left the questioner in a dilemma; 'What to do with what was presented'. Rev. Billy Graham always presented the gospel so incredibly and clear, so Rev. Warren would benefit from studying how this man led so many to Christ, that after all is our goal; to save souls. I think Colmes will think about what happened, just like Larry King when the 'Chapman family' blew him away with their faith. After the interview when their daughter died he did a follow up report because it so affected him. No Rev. Warren's probably won't have the same affect, but I could relate to the way he shared and if you dig deeper perhaps you'll see this time he could reach a multitude with what he shared. We don't always have to offend to show the way to our Savior. Jesus is apparently using Rick Warren to draw Colmes to the knowledge of salvation. May it be soon.

Let's rock

Personally, I'm tired of watching and waiting for the other shoe to fall. Life of late seems kinda like a movie where Christians are not participants, but observers watching for the latest barage of liberal stupidity ushering in the new world order. The batton of power has been passed but we need to take it back! How can we get back in the game? I'm geared up for a fight but unable to find a battle until I read about it. John

Article is based on an assumption
Posted On: 12/05/08 08:10:42 AM Age 47, SC
The author of this article made an assumption: "Beloved, why can't evangelical leaders just speak the truth in love and give the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ without the sidebar fodder of feeling like they have to be funny..." The assumption made is that Rick Warren is an "evangelical leader." Evangelism comes from a Greek word [eu=good, angelion=message] meaning "good message" or "good news." The good news of the Gospel is that only Jesus saves. It is apparent from what Mr. Warren said that he does not believe what Jesus said of Himself in the Bible. Thererfore, I do not believe that he can be classified as an evangelical. Perhaps the classification of "false prophet" would better fit. James 3:1: "Let not many of you become teachers, my brethren, knowing that as such we will incur a stricter judgment." John 3:17-18: "For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God."

I APPRECIATE RICK WARREN
Posted On: 12/05/08 08:03:02 AM Age 38, VA
Rick Warren provided the best forum for the Presidential race. Rick Warren has donated everything, his money, his time, actually his entire life to serving the Lord and gathering His flock for their eternal salvation. I think we need him and his clear vision now more than ever. I deeply appreciate the help he has given to me to remember that Jesus is ALWAYS the ANSWER and that belonging to Jesus means that I will survive these difficult times and even prosper if I continue to seek Him and ask Him to direct my steps. This Christmas we need the light of the Gospel like never before !!

I like the way Rick does it better than some who dont' do it at all
Posted On: 12/05/08 07:41:46 AM Age 33, MS
If God demanded to be "worshiped, followed, obeyed and submitted to as Lord" as stated above, He would not have taken the step of sending His one and only Son to serve His own creation, to live and die the way He did, to save His own creation who had no other way to be with God forever. Col 4: 5,6 says "Conduct yourselves with wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunity. Let your speech always be with grace, as though seasoned with salt, so that you will know how you should respond to each person." I think Rick Warren has done a good job of doing that here.

Sorry Steve but scripture is on the invitation side

Try Jesus you found offensive or trite or both Thats fine and you are entitled to feel that way. Many times I feel that my fellow Christians are sometimes trivializing the Lord but I mostly keep these complaints to myself. To say that a plea to try the Lord it is not a biblical call well lets see what the Word has to say. O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him. Psalm 34:8 sounds alot like try the Lord doesnt it? go ahead taste Him oh go ahead try Him So we see the Psalmist using that language with no problems. So in closing we should all be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: For the wrath of man works not the righteousness of God. Lets cut each other a break for loves sake and if not for loves sake then how about for the unbelievers who are watching our love one to another?

I thought this was actually one of his better moments, read again

I tend to agree with you in principle on this issue. Yes, people should be able to answer anyone with a simple, "Jesus is the only way, let me tell you why." But we all know we'll never get that from Warren, at least not in so few words. But after reading this transcript, I think you owe the guy a bit of a break. Okay, the 60-day money back guarantee was a bit glib, but that's Warren's personality. Give credit where credit is due, he did point out that God only sent one Savior for the world, and that is Jesus Christ. Warren will never do all of the things that conservative, traditional-leaning Christians want him to do. But lets not attack him for its own sake; He is doing a lot of good, and I thought this interview was a good moment for him.
