Double Standard

My missionary friend, It is not a good boast that you found no heresy in The Shack. Just because you did not find it, does that mean it is not there? If you compare Young's trinity to the Bible's Trinity and in light of orthodox historical Christianity, there is a real difference. So who wins? Young or the Bible? Do you consider yourself within the camp of orthodox Christianity? Also, you criticize the author of this post for "judging" Paul Young and yet you judge AFA. Perhaps rightly so, but that is not my point. Are only you allowed to "judge?" If sowing discord is "judging" someone's doctrine, then you are just as guilty of sowing discord in criticizing AFA. Defending the faith sows discord. The Apostle Paul sowed lots of discord when he confronted Peter's error in Acts. Was Paul sowing division? I think not. The point is this, we are all to be held up to the light of Scripture; Iron sharpens iron. If I am found doctrinally in error, I hope I would be humble enough to correct my errors, but if no one points out my error I might not ever be sharpened. As a missionary how do you determine unbiblical doctrine from Biblical doctrine out in the field. Do you not make judgments? If you preach the gospel to those you "judge" to be unsaved, are you not judging. Jesus said we must judge righteously. I could say more, but I have already probably said too much. Gary

Beware the Shack

Hi Eric, I have written a book entitled "Beware The Shack" which contains 240 pages of exposing what is behind the book: "The Shack" and what the motivation was for William Paul Young, as well as Wayne Jacobson and Brad Cummings, for writing such a book.It is an eye opener. A print version, as well as a PDF version of "Beware the Shack", may be purchased on www.bewaretheshack.com There is also an article which I have written about "The Shack" and a sample of the first few pages of the book on the same web-site. Hoping that it will be helpful in discerning how and why the book has successfully seduced millions of people into believing that the god portrayed in it is the same God as the God of the Bible. Best wishes, John

The Shack

I never even heard of the "Shack" until today when it was being spoken of on the radio with Dr Stan. I should get a copy and read it and see what all this is about. Then again I have never been one for fiction (Pilgrims Progress may have been the only fiction book I ever read, other than Dick and Jane...and see Sally run ... when we were forced to read that stuff in grade school...but at least it helped me learn how to read for which I am very thankful) Anyway one thing to consider is that the reason some people may be debunking the Shack so strongly (under a cloak that they are trying to expose the Shacks deception) is that they are simply jealous of all the money the writer made off it (he did make money off it didn't he? or was it free?). I am not at all saying this is the case with you, or anyone genuinely concerned about deception, but sometimes the carnal mind and all its envy and jealously get in the way of true discernment and has ulterior motives that it tries to hid with a cloak of seeming righteousness (in this case debunking the book in the name of defending the truth).

We have to be careful about sowing discord

I read The Shack. I found no heresy. I'm a full-time Christian missionary. Be careful not to judge. Example: I found you have the American Family Association advertised on your site. Did you know that their 'obsession' with the family is heretical at times? Jesus said he came to divide the family and nowhere in Scripture does it say to put the family first over Christ. Yet, I've spoken to one of the directors at the AFA who believed family and Christ are 'equally' important. If we put EVERYONE under a microscope, you will see things that they will not want to be judged on. Everyone goes over 55 mph on the freeway. 'Oh that doesn't matter,' you say, "Jesus really didn't mean obey 'that' authority.' Or, I only want Caucasian men to be on my website, not Asian, Black, Indian, or Hispanic (even though there are scores of Asian, Black, and Hispanic pastors). 'Oh that doesn't matter,' you say. 'Paul really didn't mean it when he said, 'treat everyone better than yourself.' I'd be surprised if you actually post this, but it will prove to me that you are at least honest about having legitimate feedback.

Good as a story

but that's not why the book was written. It was written to grind at least one theological axe, and I've seen in my own church that it is seductive. One woman called it awesome when she saw me reading it. I reserved judgment since I was only starting to read it. It didn't take long to see where Young was going, and the destination wasn't where any Christian would want to go. I disagree with Mohler. It isn't blatant heresy. It's far worse. It is subtle and seductive. Mohler needs to submerge his Calvinism occasionally as it leads to poor judgment at times. I wish the heresy were blatant as it would not be so seductive. Dr. Norman Geisler posted a good review article on the book not long ago on this site. I strongly recommend you find it, print it, and circulate it in your church. It is brief, yet complete and understandable.

Shining Light On The Shack

Excellent work. This reads like an action novel. Unfortunately, the stakes are much higher as The Shack continues to seduce millions. It is the dividing line; the separation continues...
