Fear not!
Posted On: 11/26/08 07:54:15 AM Age 48, MO
Why do you think you had to offer an apology before speaking truth? You didn't make it true, you didn't determine it to be truth, and it has nothing to do with you. It is true because it reflects the nature of God and we either believe God or we don't. To be bold is to not apologize for the truth but to stand on truth because we can do no other. Thank you for the conviction to write the article but draw strength from God's conviction, not fear of the consternation. John

If you were born to this planet, you either happily belong to Jesus or you wish to balk and retch at the idea, but you still belong to Jesus and you're here at His pleasure, so get with the program or don't but don't spoil it for those who are anxiously wishing to worship their Savior and Redeemer.

Teach Bible words
Posted On: 11/22/08 08:11:35 PM Age 60, MS
Sometime ago some missionary translators in a newly evangelized territory has translated the LAMB of God as the PIG of God. They were reprimanded for this, but declared that the natives had never seen a lamb, but they had offered up pigs as sacrifices to their former gods. Well, I grew up in a place in America where sheep were not raised, but pigs were, but we had no trouble as Sunday School students learning about lambs and seeing pictures of them and understanding the vast difference between a submissive and innocent lamb and a dirty, greedy pig. Certainly, since any child can be taught the difference between a lamb and a pig, then most people can understand the difference between a lord and a leader. Let's increase peoples' vocabulary, not decrease their understanding.

Dumbing down the Word of God.
Posted On: 11/21/08 09:23:41 AM Age 43, AL
Lee Strobel is hardly the first, or last person standing in a puplit or writing a book that will destroy the original meaning of the Bible to further their liberal beliefs. Believe it or not there is an agenda here. All one has to do is suffer through the horrible paraphrase "The Message" to understand just how bad it is, and where it is leading. This is not to make more accessible to todays culture. Every excuse like that denies the power of the Holy Spirit to speak to the hearts and souls of men as he has for thousands of years. The arrogance of men to think they can do something the power of God cannot do is blasphemy. Plain and simple. this same logic is used in public schools for outcome based education. It is straight from the pit of hell. Instead of dumbing down scripture, how about teaching it with passion and love through the spirit of God to reach the lost.No drama, no U2, or Beatles or any other horrible music from men that deny the true risen Christ. NO MORE! Sooner or later we are going to have to stand up and defend this faith we say we have against the powers of darkness. That's impossible to do when you are in bed with them. Now, go ahead and attack me all you want. The truth is the truth and the last thing the body of Christ needs now is a dumbed down, watered down gospel.

Well Said!!!

The Relevant Jesus
Posted On: 11/21/08 02:39:44 AM Age 53, PA
This comes as no surprise at all to the watchmen of the Faith. Many people love the idea of Jesus but He is not the one of the Scriptures. John 7:38. What grieves me more than anything about these spokespersons for God is that they don't bring people to God this way, they bring a god to the people. For how does one make Jesus more relevant to the people, except to preach another Christ? "My ways are NOT your ways!" says..... THE LORD. The Apostle Paul was not afraid to name names either when it came to defending who and what Jesus was. Thank you.

Jesus is Lord

Well said John! John 6:34 NAS Then they said to Him, "Lord, always give us this bread." John 6:68 NAS Simon Peter answered Him, "Lord, to whom shall we go ? You have words of eternal life. John 9:36 NAS He answered, "Who is He, Lord, that I may believe in Him?" John 13:13 NAS "You call Me Teacher and Lord ; and you are right, for so I am. When you start putting "leader" in place of "Lord" is just starts to sound like the person saying it is a panzie.

Amen and Amen

The author's words are on target. In dumbing down the Gospel of Jesus Christ with words that make people feel better and more attached, it is possible that we give them a Jesus not found in Scripture. Our churches are loaded with "followers" of the LEADER Jesus Christ who have ADDED Him into their lives as something less than who He really is. What tragedy it will be if they were to stand before the LORD Jesus Christ some day, and He were to say to them, "Depart from me for I know you not." People are called to repent and receive the LORD Jesus Christ, and not the LEADER Jesus Christ. And their lives as true believers are to depict a slave-Master relationship and not just a follower-leader relationship.

Leader is not Lord!

With all due respect to Lee Strobel, leader is indeed a very poor choice. As said by Paul above, leaders can be and are replaced. However, Lord requires absolute and total submission, surrendering everything to my Lord. Perhaps in retrospect, Lee might have been better off with Savior and King though I doubt that anyone who has taken time to read the Word would have any difficulty with Lord. That is after all who He is.
