You say, "The point is that this imagery comes right out of Joseph's dream in Genesis 37, where the sun stood for Jacob, the moon for Rachel, and the stars for Joseph's brothers (Genesis 37:9-11). So, we can conclude that this woman represents the nation of Israel, the descendants of Jacob". You have missed the whole point of what the scripture is saying. The woman is NOT Jacob. In the dream the sun stood for the father (Jacob). The Revelation does NOT say that the woman is The Sun but that she is clothed with the sun. In the dream, the sun, is the father (Jacob) who is a type of The Father, The Lord Jesus Christ, who is The Father of all. The woman is clothed with the sun or The Father. Who is clothed with The Sun. The same ones who are clothed with The Son. Abraham had TWO kinds of children. Those of the sand of the seashore and those of the stars. The sands are the natural children of Abraham, and Jesus told the pharisees who were these children, that their father was the Devil. The children of the stars are the children that have the same faith as Abraham. Abraham was saved by grace, by trusting God to save him. All of these children are The Woman who is clothed by The Sun. It matters not if they are Jew or gentile. The Sun is the source of light in our natural world just as God is our source of Light. Everything orbits around the Sun in our natural solar system, just as we revolve around God. The only solar system with life is the one that has One and Only one Sun. Just as there can only be life, by One and Only One God Almighty, who is The Lord Jesus Christ. There are two woman in every story of the Bible. But only one woman is loved by the husband. Our husband is the Lord Jesus Christ. There is one and only one woman who will be saved, and that is the woman who makes The Lord Jesus her husband. Then she is clothed by The Sun. Lou Newton

That radiant woman of Revelation 12 symbolizes the Church that Jesus is building. It is one chosen people in Christ. It is one family: Abraham being the father of all believers whether they are circumsized or not. It is one beautiful bride; and in its consumation, it is one New Jerusalem whose gates bear the names of the twelve tribes of ancient Israel, and whose foundations are inscribed with the names of the twelve apostles. The Gates of Hell Shall not Prevail!

We do not have to wait for more terrible things to happen in our world for the kingdom of God to arrive. It has already arrived although not in its full completion. Jesus Christ took dominion and is ruling at the right hand of the Father now! Satan's forces have been vanquished.
Man needs and is commanded to obey God and to spread the gospel continuing to destroy Satan's forces through the power of the Holy Spirit. Man is to be fruitful and multiply subduing all of creation and taking dominion for the glory of God NOW!
Satan is not winning, Christ already defeated him on the cross. He is bound in the sense that he does not have free reign over the world.
Further, GOD is in control of all things he is not in a battle with Satan (A created being). A mere Word by God and Satan is finished and put to an end. Satan is not equal to God or even close to His supremacy.
We battle with Satan and he is behind every act of evil, but let us not forget our own fallen nature and our sinful flesh.
Also let us not forget that God punishes wickedness here and now as well as at the time of final judgment. The horrible things happening today are the same as they were in the time of the Prophets both major and minor. They are laid down because of our national disobedience and turning away from the decrees and commands of God.
The Kingdom of God is growing and is strong let us not measure it's growth solely on the fact that America has faltered over the last 100 years and turned away from God.
Let us live our lives for Christ now and not sit around hopelessly waiting for the end, but hopefully sharing the gospel with those lost and in despair who need a Savior and realize that our King is in control of all things and those who beleive in Him have nothing to fear not even the evil one Satan.
With this knowledge let us take dominion of all facets of life and bring glory, honor, and praise to the King of King and the Lord of Lords who is ruling from His throne as we now speak!!!!
