the 'race' card

Some of American history is very sad, but being bitter and hateful towards American people to this day is even more sad. Not giving hope, not giving forgiveness, and causing pause for some self repentance, that is the damage. African American people that are angry at whites, and are raciest, that spew and push hate instead of the opposite, this is an important issue. Stop the hate within your own 'race' before you go trying to stop the hate in another; be an example, not furthering the hate deeper. Practice what you preach. Spread the positive black history and what huge accomplishments that the African American race has given to America! I have heard from plenty of angry, mad, hateful African Americans, and to ignore this because of political correctness, fear and 'understanding', that does nothing to correct the racist behavior and furthering of hatred. It is not okay to hate because past generations were neglected, abused and treated like scum. It is not okay to continue oppressive behavior and say it is okay because history tells us so. It is not okay to blame the current generation for the ignorant, monstrosities of the past.
If we are not comfortable with these characteristics in a president, black or white, then that is our right. Being understanding towards history does not excuse poor behavior in the present. It is not okay to be hateful towards anyone of color, including that of 'white America', because of history. Teach men and women of all races to move forward in acceptance of all race, and not to hold onto the 'race' card. It goes both ways, in fact there is more hatred in the black community then in the white over 'race' issues, all because of anger and bitterness; it is culturally acceptable. That is not right. And these are not good characteristics of any president to have, IF they want to become the president of the United States of America, they should be proud and not hateful towards any specific race. “Holding onto anger” towards a race is not acceptable in a president.
I personally would love to see an African American become president and for the pride the African American community could obtain from that, but Obama is not the man, and his character proves that over and over again. That is just simple fact from a Christian worldview perspective, but obviously would not be understandable from a ‘worldly-view’ perspective.

I agree with Dan. We have to also be careful that we don't dwell so much on the past that we can't make for the future. I wonder if the book is in the library...I'd like to check the context of the quotes used in the article.

Audacity of Hope Title

One important piece of information found in "Dreams from my Father" that never seems to get much attention is located toward the end of chapter 14 (in my paperback edition, pg. 292). It states, "The title of Reverend Wright's sermon that morning was 'The Audacity of Hope.'" How can he have any pretense of separating himself from the teachings of that church when he titles his second book after the Reverend's sermon?

This is truly scary. What are Americans that support Obama thinking?

Look, you demand that he be prideful of this country, but he has good reasons not to be. Blind pride in a country is NOT patriotism. Patriotism is wanting the best for your country. Our country has been horribly oppressive. You are not aware of this because of the history books in school. They say "this is what happened. Too bad. So sad. Its all done now" when it comes to oppression. it isn't done yet. Racism and discrimination still happens. The oppression done in the past still has lasting consequences today that need to be addressed. That said, Obama may want to be a leader of this country so that he can improve the quality of life in this country for EVERYBODY. You need to be willing to accept the fact that this country, and that we have more problems than just abortion and homosexuality.Plus, Obama is not saying that white people should be assimilated into black culture. You assume that assimilation is the goal. He, like others, want coexistence of cultural groups and for people to be culturally competent and respectful. As a white person living in a society that has for so long been dominated by white people, it can be hard to see that. -Dan Smith
