I am speechless! Speechless....

What John Quincy Adams did IS NOT the same thing. JQA was protecting us from the British!! During the Revolutionary War, was sacrifice necessary? Yes, of course, so sacrifice of his state was necessary in this instance. THINK: It is NOT the Fed govt's responsiblity to protect us from OURSELVES!! What's next, the FDA is going to regulate the sweets industry to protect us from Twinkies for "the common good"? Everyone knows Twinkies and cigarettes are bad for you. It is the parents' responsibility to teach their children good habits, to set a good example, to talk to them about bad advertising, and to teach them to resist peer pressure. No matter what is in cigarettes, they are bad for you! The form of thinking in the article is communist in nature, that the Fed gov't is to take care of you from cradle to grave and needs to regulate everything in industry. Looking to the gov't to solve the cigarette addiction problem is the same as looking at them to solve the sin problem. Marx made the phrase "the common good" famous, is the writer oblivious to such? Yes, truth in labeling is important, but this is ridiculous and is nanny state thinking. What's next, the gov't is going to monitor your health and put people on diets for "the common good"? The gov't is there to protect life, yes, but from people taking other people's lives (through laws including the right to bear arms for protection)...not someone wasting away their own life through bad habits. God's word, the Church, family and such are supposed to be the support system to help people take personal responsibility for their lives. "The magistrate is the servant not of his own desires, not even of the people, but of his God." Humanity is rebelling when they serve their own desires (ex: bad habits). They are being complacent and apathetic when they look to the gov't to solve the problem.
