It is sad to see christians attacking each other on where we think their heart is.

Telling God What to Do
Posted On: 09/02/08 03:03:42 PM Age 55, FL
What I found most disturbing was for Donald Miller to tell God how He should enlighten the attendees according to what Donald feels is important. Not one word was said about the need for salvation upon which true integrity is predicated. It was all about Donald's will. He sees Jesus dying in the battle against injustice. Almost like a causality of war. But Jesus did not die as a warrior but as a lamb being slaughtered. He voluntarily died as a sacrifice for our sins, not in a battle against the forces of injustice. Shame Donald didn’t take the chance to tell the DNC that Jesus won the battle by providing for our salvation.

Thanks

Gospel of Love
Posted On: 08/28/08 07:58:27 AM Age 48, MO
Friend: Scripture says that in the end times God will send a powerful delusion to deceive even the elect, if that were possible. What delusion would be powerful enough to deceive the elect? It certainly isn't Islam or a new sin. It is the gospel of Love. The gospel of love teaches that Christianity is about us. It tolerates all, saves all, feels all, has compassion for all, but lacks substance. It focuses on the needy whiney bride and never on the groom. It's all about blessing the world and never about blessing Christ. Friend: God is NOT love. To quote Tozer: "When John wrote this, he was stating a fact not offering a definition. To define God as love is to say that love is what God is, thus eliminating all the attributes of God, save one." John

QUESTION ? ? ?
Posted On: 08/27/08 06:53:40 PM Age 64, OH
"Ask and you shall receive" is part of the sermon on the mount. But you have taken it out of context. Here is some more of that same sermon: 20Looking at his disciples, he said: "Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. 21Blessed are you who hunger now, for you will be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh. 22Blessed are you when men hate you, when they exclude you and insult you and reject your name as evil, because of the Son of Man. 23"Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, because great is your reward in heaven. For that is how their fathers treated the prophets. 24"But woe to you who are rich, for you have already received your comfort. 25Woe to you who are well fed now, for you will go hungry. Woe to you who laugh now, for you will mourn and weep. 26Woe to you when all men speak well of you, for that is how their fathers treated the false prophets.-- I have a question for you; which group does that crowd look like; THE POOR or THE RICH. God answers the prayers of the prophets who were poor but the false prophets who Jesus says are rich are NOT answered are they ? Lou

"Come just as you are..."

Yes, but we are supposed to go to God with a humble heart and ask that He do what is best. Well it doesn't matter, God sees the heart and He will answer the way he sees fit, no matter how the prayer it brought to Him. Personally, I thought it sounded too scripted (because it probably was). I feel God would rather us to come to Him freely and just as we are, not as someone wants us to be. There is no real truth or freedom in "political correctness".

This country is killing and mutilating our unborn on a daily basis. God hears the cries of these innocent ones but we have turned a deaf ear to them. Protect us from our enemies as we continue to murder our most defenseless??? An abomination!

Donald Miller Prayer
Posted On: 08/27/08 11:54:49 AM Age 55, WI
Thanks for bringing the Donald Miller prayer @ the DNC to a wide array of Christians! Thanks Donald for speaking up for the less fortunate and hopefully bringing God's heart to people who have seen our God as unconcerned because of so much harshness in His people. As I listened I was reminded of Jesus' job description of Himself: He came to heal the brokenhearted & set the captives free. Hopefully we can continue to reflect that heart to a world that is brokenhearted and in bondage. Thanks God for giving Donald an opportunity to pray Your heart at the DNC. Good choice!

the forces of injustice?
Posted On: 08/27/08 10:41:11 AM Age 47, IL
"Jesus gave his own life against the forces of injustice"? Not quite, Mr. Miller. Maybe you're confusing the gospel with the new Batman movie. Jesus gave his own life in the cause of justice, and of grace, that God might be both just and the justifier of those who believe in Jesus.

Emergent Prayer
Posted On: 08/27/08 10:36:46 AM Age 62, MD
We need to read this prayer with discernment, not just attack it as emergent, which equals for some heresy and anathema. Some may trip over the biblical aspects and not be able to see what things were wrong. I'll mention a few. Positive things I noticed: > addressed God as Father, which a Muslim, Buddhist, unitarian, or new ager most certainly would not do > prayed in the name of Jesus; in this day, that's a BOLD move! Just mentioning the name is definitely not inclusive, diverse, tolerant, or politically correct > pointed out care of widows and orphans, as Jam. 1:27 says is part of, but not the whole, of true religion (the other part is equally hard and usually ignored: keeping ourselves unstained by the world) > asked for hands willing to serve, not just eyes to see and ears to hear, as is mentioned in Jam. 2:15-16 HUGE NEGATIVE things: > "so families can thrive rather than struggle" indicates entitlement; struggle is good for all of us, developing character, making us dependent on God's mercy and provision, making us creative and resourceful, and sometimes causing us to make frugal, moral choices > "give children an equal opportunity to get a college education" is another entitlement statement; we don't all get to go to Yale or Harvard, do we? > "restore our moral standing in the world" assumes that we have a moral standing at home in our own nation, while our legal slaughter of unborn children, murder of sick and disabled (Terry Shiavo), and celebration of perversion belies that statement > "give us favor and forgiveness" is attached to no admittance of wrongs -- what's to forgive? And note the order of the request; God will not grant favor before forgiveness > "unify us not...in our ideas...and sentiments...but in our actions" assumes that we are already unified in the first two things -- nothing could be further from the truth, as is seen between liberals and conservatives > "Jesus, who gave his own life against the forces of injustice" shows an ignorance of, or failure to be true to, the Word of God, which tells us Jesus gave His life as a sacrifice for our sins, to save people from eternal destruction in hell, thereby making a relationship with the Father possible and eternal life a given

Donald Miller's speech/prayer...
Posted On: 08/27/08 10:12:01 AM Age 47, CA
And how do you suppose God should "restore our moral standard in the world."? Here's a clue - Repentance, turning away from SIN, turning to the shed blood of Jesus Christ to save us, coming to the realization that we are fallen and depraved people who need a savior first. Maybe Donald should have stood in the gap like Nehemiah and confessed the sin of his people. Maybe Mr. Miller should have mentioned America and our love and acceptance of homosexuality, pornography and abortion as murder. God save us all! Well, at least he mentioned Jesus in his prayer...

Courage that falls short
Posted On: 08/27/08 09:58:06 AM Age 52, FL
I'm saddened that Mr. Miller calls leaders to have courage to do things that take little courage; and yet,he neglects those things that do--such as protecting the civil rights of the poorest and most innocent among--children unborn or born after a botched abortion. When we stand on judgement day, I doubt God will ask us why we didn't fund college education for all. I am certain, however, He will require us to account for the helpless that we allowed to be taken to the slaughter without lifting a hand to save them.

Awe... how democratically sectarian of him...
Posted On: 08/27/08 09:39:46 AM Age 45, TN
But I wasn't aware the Christian faith signed on to the Democathartic Party platform. When did they do that? Shouldn't there have been an announcement in the paper or something? Finally I can stop carrying that heavy Bible to church every Sunday... heck! I can just sleep in now and give all my tithe to the government so THEY can do the work of the ministry instead of the Body of Christ! What a relief that would be. (Sarcasm... it's just a free service I provide... no extra charge.)

Jesus gave His life for what?
Posted On: 08/26/08 04:40:02 PM Age 49, CANADA
Jesus gave His life for what? Really? Is He still dead then? I make these requests in the name of your son, Jesus, who gave his own life against the forces of injustice. Let Him be our example.

Politically correct(?) Maybe not
Posted On: 08/26/08 04:24:27 PM Age 64, GA
I read the prayer and, after prayerful reflection, I concluded that it was Biblical in nature. For God said, " Ask and ye shall receive" and I read this as an "ask" prayer.
