Satan is indeed dangerous not by direct conflict, but by taking the word and twisting it. ie sexual relations in a marriage is biblical and beautiful, satan takes this and twists and distorts to all kinds of abominations. As far as religion, it is not (at first) weirdos around a bonfire sacrificing someone, it is Christianity in form but not substance, it has a twist. the great deceiver is good at what he does, he does not have a pitchfork and horns with red jammies, he works and takes form and uses dupes with such vehicles as the emergent church. IT is the work of satan, those promoting it have a new father. Pray for them.

Show them the money, honey

I don't know about you, but I think James and Shirley Dobson are doing an *awesome* job leading Focus on the Money! They have lucrative relationships with so many wonderful people--they should be able to retire very comfortably and in style. I mean, what better way to spend your life than carrying out the nice, easy, profitable, comfortable work of the Gospel, right? By the way, did I say "profitable"? ;)

Deceived
Posted On: 04/30/08 04:34:49 PM Age 40, MS
I greatly appreciate your article. Open communication like this will help us hold each other accountable. I don't think the Dobson's have been deceived. I think they are compromising for the sake of promoting Christ's agenda. That doesn't work. I pray that they are confronted by their error, realize their mistake, and publicly set the record straight. I do disagree with your last comment though. You said "I plead with Dr. Dobson and Mrs. Dobson not to be part of the elect that will be deceived in the last days by false teaching as the Bible says will occur." The Bible does not say that. Mark 13:22 says that the false prophets would deceive even the elect if it were possible. But thank God it is not possible!

Dobson, on the broad road
Posted On: 04/30/08 04:32:40 PM Age 58, NJ
I once heard DR. Dobson say that the pope (last pope) was one of the greatest Christians of the century. Also, he promotes Huge Ross, who is a progressive creationist. Progressive creationist need to compromise the Bible so it can reflect what the world of science believes. thanks for you article

Nothing New
Posted On: 04/30/08 04:00:02 PM Age 51, GA
Jacob, you are correct. This is nothing new. Dobson has a history of compromising. He seems to gravitate to that wide, easy, ego-stroking path. The last compromise I recall was his pushing some kind of legislation that would have given same-sex couples special rights. I don't remember the details but Dobson was not able to see beneath the surface of satans prettied-up lie. This makes him an easy target. He will be accountable for those he causes to stumble. I'm sick of these "good" men that we're not allowed to question. I smell rotten fruit!

All about status and money
Posted On: 04/30/08 03:38:50 PM Age 56, KS
The Dobson's aren't in agreement with the Emergent Church. However, It is very simple to discern why they show their face anywhere. It is all about keeping Focus On the Family in the lime lite and keeping the money coming in, nothing more. Rick Morrison

More harm than good
Posted On: 04/30/08 03:19:18 PM Age 30, KS
It seems to me that this following of the emergent church causes even more harm than atheism. By that I mean that an atheist can discover he is lost and that he needs Christ - the emerging church believers think they're OK if they've "found" themselves! They think they are "saved." It's scarier to me to deal with these people. An atheist, well, you just know where he stands and you pray for him. These people it's hard to know, they "think" they know and yet in reality, they are probably taking the "wider" path that leads to destruction. This is the second thing in the last few months that has come to my attention regarding the Dobsons that makes me question their Christian integrity. I have not been fond of Mr. Dobson since he commented that he would not vote. To give believers the idea that it is OK to sit out of the political realm is so innapropriate. And we wonder why our society is taking such a downward turn! So, yes, I'll be looking for a response from the Dobson camp as to why they are leaning this way, in the meantime, I'll be praying for intercession from the Holy Spirit to lead them back where they belong.

Focus on the Family and Schuller

Yes, Brannon you have it right. The problem is that when you have a big ministry or church, you are forced to make compromises. In our society, you dare not offend anyone, especially in the media. People are not tolerant of offensive comments or postures even on doctrinal issues. The Dobsons are good people and have an effective ministry in their area, but, they dare not take stands that would divide Christians. The problem with "unity" -- is it cannot take place in without "truth". To compromise on truth, for unity sake, leaves us neither unified nor honest. Jesus said it well, "Beware when all men speak well of you" (Luke 6:26) It is good to have a few good enemies, who are enemies of the truth. Pray for the big ministries and big churches, they are under great pressure. Perhaps that is why the big ones always fall in time. The first churches met in homes, and before it is all over, we might be doing that again. God bless your good work. Pastor Richard Valkanet

SELF ESTEEM
Posted On: 04/30/08 02:59:28 PM Age 71, MO
For years I have tried to convince anyone who would listen, that "self esteem" is a "dirty" word. There can be NO THOUGHT of SELF worth outside of realizing our worth to our creator and seeking to fullfill his plan for our life. Knowing God so loved me at my worst, that he was willing to sacrafice His Only Son is the ONLY basis I can have for any value I may have.

It appears the false doctrine of deception has the Dodson's son, and his parents are faced with choosing their son over God as Lk. 14:25-33, the Lord is clear about itching ears Daryl

James Dobson
Posted On: 04/30/08 02:38:25 PM Age 54, PA
I presently live in The Uk & Pittsburgh and I first became aware of James Dobson in the nineteen seventies. I am not an ultra fundamentalist and in fact I am moderately charismatic/ Pentecostal. But I try with God's help to be biblical and discerning. As much as I normally appreciate Brannon Howse , I must for once disagree with him regarding James Dobson. I am unable to share his previous high regard for FOTF. James Dobson compromised biblical truth long ago on the ecumenical issue and has been at the forefront in psychologizing the Evangelical church. It is a natural downward progression for James Dobson to be compromising on the Emergent Church. There were those who sounded the alarm on the contra-biblical direction Dobson & FOTF were drifting years ago. Neither am I surprised at FOTF involvement with Shuller and Bell. It is par for the warped course. Once you get into bed with Roman Catholicism (whose gospel is sacrimental not biblical), and the pope is in bed with the Dali Lama, you climb into bed with the Dali Lama. Frankly, I never had much trust or respect for the ministry of James Dobson to begin with. Now I have none. Still, I hold no personal ill against him and I hope The Lord corrects his erroneous actions. But I doubt Dobson will change. May I be proved wrong. The Great Apostasy
Posted On: 04/30/08 01:33:12 PM Age 33, AR
Thank you Brannon for taking a stand on the truth. The Bible speaks that in the last days people will have for themselves teachers, having itchy ears instead of enduring sound doctrine (2 Timothy 4:3-4). What is so strange to me is that people who supposedly read & know the Bible somehow miss this verse. It seems the turning from the truth & embracing falsehood is more alarming today. People are just tossing the Bible out and embracing anything they want, even if it costs souls their eternity in hell & even though they will be judged by Almighty God. Whether the Emerging Church people want to believe it or not, hell is a real place & people without Jesus Christ will be cast into the lake of fire.

Dobsons Should be Avoided
Posted On: 04/30/08 12:52:17 PM Age 45, KS
Like many ministries, the Dobson clan started off doing good work, but eventually the power and money went to their heads. They LOVE the limelight (TV talk shows, politics) and new venues for purveying what has gone from solid biblical teaching to some sort of morphed pop psychology. This is SO sad. They read which way the wind is blowing and do whatever they think will give them the greatest exposure in order to advance their power and influence. I used to support them monetarily but recently wrote them a letter explaining that this support is stopping and why. They never replied. I urge everyone else to do the same.

Dobson is a Wolf
Posted On: 04/30/08 12:50:32 PM Age 45, TX
No surprise here...James Dobson has never preached to true, original Gospel of Jesus that begins with the Bible truth that God is "holy, holy, holy" and that man is utterly depraved and "desperarely wicked." (Gen 6:3; Isa. 6:3; Jer. 17:9, Rom. 3) If mankind isn't in sin and sin doesn't matter, then why did Jesus Christ come to the earth?!!!!! He came for a reason - to redeem men from their sin against a holy God who cannot and will not fellowship with sinful beings (1 Pet. 1:15-15; Rev. 1:5; 4:8; 21:8, 27). See Matthew 1:21 for the announcement of Christ's birth into the earth and reason He came. What did John the Baptist announce of Christ? See John 1:29. No man who doesn't even understand the foundational Bible truth as to why the very Messiah came to the earth, has any business leading others. He will inevitably mislead them - "The leaders of this people cause them to err." (Isa. 9:16) He is what Jesus called a "blind guide." (Matt. 23:16, 24) (James Dobson is a wolf and it's time to say it out loud to elevate Jesus and to protect others from this deceiver. SafeGuardYourSoul.com

Thanks

Thank you so much for bringing this to the attention of your readers. I for one have enjoyed, and respected the Dobsons and their ministry for several years. Now this puts a whole new light on things. I know anyone is able to be led astray. And this appears to be the case here. Atleast I hope so. My prayers are going out to them for discernment, and wisdom in their actions.

Dr. Dobson & FOTF
Posted On: 04/30/08 11:57:28 AM Age 66, FL
I have always stood behind Dr. Dobson and Shirley in the past until just recently when I realized he seems to be coexisting with the emergent church. That seems very dangerous to me and I hope he will answer some questions on why he is doing this. The bible is still truth and the truth of the gospel will stand forever but won't be popular. Thank you for sending out the alarm.

Does Dobson Embrace Mormonism As Well?
Posted On: 04/30/08 11:26:28 AM Age 34, ID
I agree with your article and have found Dr. Dobson's unwillingness to EVER take a stand against false teaching to be very disturbing. Just this week I received Dr. Dobson's monthly newsletter in which he opens with a discussion of how he has become good friends with Glen Beck. I think Glen Beck is an interesting talk show host with many similar values to Christians, but he is a Mormon. We are not supposed to be friends with the world although we should witness to the lost. There was no mention in Dr. Dobson's letter about Glen Beck's Mormonism or how he needed to be saved. The implication was that they were brothers in the Lord working toward a common goal. I expect more will come out about this in the next few weeks. Keep up the good work and thank you for not compromising!

The disturbing Dobsons
Posted On: 04/30/08 09:07:19 AM Age 61, MO
It sounds like the Dobsons need to be more discerning. Their early agenda was morality for morality's sake alone; and not particularly a Scriptural or Gospel message. In the early days I can't recall anything "Focus on the Family" did that purveyed a false Gospel. I don't think James Dobson ever put himself up as a theologian. I do think that he has succumbed to the pressures of maintaining a large business which often entails not offending potential customers, and/or affliating himself with groups that would increase his customers. My family dismissed "Focus" many years ago because we realized that morality plays without explicit reference to Jesus Christ were useless. It is not enough to be pro life and pro family without also acknowledging Jesus Christ as Lord and Master of our lives. George Cancilla

Thank you!

I actually work at FOTF and the things I'm seeing happening here are extremely disturbing and yet I don't have any influence, other than prayer, to change the situation. Thank you, thank you, thank you for calling attention to this issue!
