JUDGMENT

Peter was a apostle of the Lord Jesus Christ and called by Jesus Himself. But Paul told Peter he was wrong right in front of the rest of the church when Peter refused to eat with the gentile Christians. Peter was joining with the Jewish "Christians" who were following the pharisees, by thinking themselves better than the gentiles, and not following Jesus at all. I can not judge the heart of any man or decide or even know were they will spend eternity. But the Holy Spirit within me does judge the behavior and speech of men and when it is against the testimony of The Lord Jesus Christ I am obligated to say so. I have no problem saying the preaching of Robert Schuller is against the testimony of The Lord Jesus Christ. There are many men who have followed his example. Lou

Hannity and Others...

I thought you wrote a very good article exposing the emergent church and their founders. But, most of the people you named that are helping the fight against these liberals, like Sean Hannity, Rush, Ingraham, ect...well these people when you really look at their politcal beliefs are not true conservatives, they are neoconservatives. When you study the history of the neocons it goes back to communism, Lenin Trotsky to be exact. So really these people want big federal government as well, for example spreading democracy through force (Iraq), which is a communist/liberal ideal.

So sad (unless you're emergent - then look at it upside down and it's a smile...)

Amen, you mentioned that the weed of the emergent church is taking root in Christian Schools, my school is 'Christian' and it is run by post modern emergents... It's really sad to think that Jesus said "I am the way, the truth and the life" and some people are starting to think we cannot know any truth - what is the ripple effect of that?
Lastly, just a comment - there is a difference between the emergent church and the emerging church. For more info there are some good articles on 9marks.org
Thanks for the article

Their error is self

Friend: You are exactly right in your view but perhaps not seeing all the data. Where the historical religions went wrong is by taking their focus off Christ and onto religious dogma. Where the New Age religions go wrong is by putting their focus on the kingdom of the earth. The Shift concerns itself with the culture and Christians being Christ's ambassadors in Christ's earthly kingdom. In their view, we are to be one with nature, with each other, and live in socialistic harmony. Christ is to be our friend, our example, and our partner. We are to live our lives to glorify God to the best of OUR ability. Brother; this theology goes against grace and the Lordship of God, turning Arminianism into an ego trip for Christians without patience. John

A Different Path to Salvation

As I look at the Emergent Church, what I see is a church and pastors that want to approach God on a basis that does not require acknowledgment of personal sin and the need for repentance as a part of being saved.
For some emergent leaders, it means people don't even have to approach God through the narrow door of Jesus on the Cross. As it was explained to me by a pastor that I know, it was necessary for Jesus to die on the cross for us to be saved. But it is not necessary that people believe it. Christ's sacrifice is all that matters to save everyone. People don't have to believe in Christ to be saved.
Pure heresy and an absolute distortion of the theology of grace! And then you add the meditation aspects on top of that, which soon become THE way to reach and know God instead of through repentance.
The emergent church is misguided and leading people away from salvation.

Orthodoxy

"The Bible (God's innerant and infallible Word) should be our only standard for every aspect of life."
Unfortunately, such claims as these do not line up with the practice of orthodox Christianity.
The Christian faith has always depended on the collaboration of reason, experience, and tradition as well the truths of Scripture to form its beliefs. The Protestant motto of Luther and Calvin may have been "sola scriptura," but this claim is not one of "solo" scriptura, allowing every person to interpret the Bible apart from the influence of other believers in the Church, and neither is it a license for any form of Bibliolatry that would deny the active presence of the Holy Spirit at work in the world. This may mean that, until the Lord returns, there will be discussion and even disagreement amongst Christians--but we are to trust that the Spirit of God is of unity and love, not of discord, and that his truth will ultimately reign. Unfortunately, labeling vast groups of Christians as "heretics" instead of talking to them may create martyrs on both sides of the debate, but it does not help towards this end.

All I'm saying is that before I label someone a heretic (or an occultist, or a "shifter"), I'm going to seriously weigh who has been labeled a heretic in the past - Martin Luther, for example. He fueled major changes to serious problems within the Catholic Church (what might sooner be called a return to truth) that are the foundation of Protestantism. That being said, many Protestants today have thrown out the baby with the bath water where ancient Christianity is concerned. I was appalled to see this article question the influence of Anglicanism, Roman Catholicism, the Orthodox church, Celtic Christianity, and Quakerism.
Both of these comments seem to be suggesting that we understand everything Jesus said and did and was (and is and is to come). It isn't that Jesus has changed, it's that our understanding of Him is imperfect. I am working out my/their salvation with fear and trembling, and searching to know and understand Jesus and His message more fully. I believe this is what many people (currently under attack) are doing to the very best of their ability.
Protestants (keeping in mind that I am one) love to hide behind the banner that "anyone who disagrees with Scripture is wrong." But what this really means is that "anyone who disagrees with our specific interpretation of Scripture is wrong." Perhaps today's Protestants are a little like Luther's Catholic church - things have become seriously convoluted and need correction and working out.

JESUS IS GOD AND WE ARE NOT
| Posted On: 04/20/08 04:37:43 PM |

Jesus was God Almighty in the flesh. Jesus was sovereign and righteous. We are mere men and are not sovereign or righteous. Jesus could forgive sin. We can not forgive sin or anything other act of God unless The Holy Spirit of the Lord Jesus does it through us. We can not decide what truth is. The Holy Spirit will never disagree with what the Holy Spirit has already said. Any man who claims to speak for God and disagrees with what God has said in scripture is wrong. Lou

Jesus was against the religion of the Pharisees, and He made some dreadful accusations against them. Yes, Jesus is the fulfillment of the law and the prophets. He is the final doctrine to which His disciples must hold to. There is no more exploration to be done into the matter as these emergents think. "Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and for ever. Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein." (Hebrews 13:8-9). Jesus Christ is the Alpha and the Omega. George Cancilla

The Pharisees attacked and executed Jesus as a heretic and a sinner, because he challenged their religious system, broke their religious rules, and showed the world a new way to live - where Love is the fulfillment of the law.
All I'm asking is that you be mindful of this as you toss out dreadful accusations at people.

JESUS IS OUR ONLY HOPE
| Posted On: 04/18/08 07:06:42 PM |

We need to ask ourselves, who gets disease and illnesses. Is it not those who do not eat well, and those who keep company with those who are sick. Did not Jesus throw many demons out of people who were sick. The church is sick because it did not study the scriptures to nourish itself on the truths in it. It did not remove the sinful behavior from it's midst. It followed leaders who did not preach in the Holy Spirit. But the main thing is it trusted in others things rather than trust ONLY in the Holy Spirit of the Lord Jesus Christ. Just as Israel kept pointing to the most sick among them as the problem; so the church does the same today. But the problem was that all of Israel had fallen from their first love and they would all be carried away into foreign lands. The church is the same today; everyone points the finger at those who are more sick than themselves. But no one wants to confess their sin and repent so the Lord can heal our land. I see nothing on the horizon to say that this nation will not be destroyed the same as Jerusalem was years ago. Our only hope is not the church, not even the Bible, but our only hope is to repent and turn to the Lord Jesus Christ to heal us and than our land. Lou

So true

This is why it is so important to see the Bible as what it truly is, God's infallible innerant holy word, true in all of it's essential teachings. When you stray or deny God's word you get people like McLaren and the emergent church movement. Great article keep us informed, so we can in turn keep others informed.

Thanks for this article. It was very well written and researched, and sadly so true. The Bible (God's innerant and infallible Word) should be our only standard for every aspect of life. From listening to and hearing from and about these ECM's, we can see how important truth (God's Word)is and what happens when we don't believe and trust in God's word.
