I listen to Janet Folger on WVCY- Milwaukee, all the time and consider that station a life line to the truth of Jesus. I also write an AOL blog / journal that deals with disabled combat Veterans, Agent Orange, PTSD, but also many Bible subjects and salvation by the blood of Jesus Christ. I enjoyed this article, video and feed back session. Keep up the good work! God bless your efforts to preach about Jesus and the Truth of the Bible. Am I wrong or did they use Jesus's name last night when they sang it again??

At least they got it right last night, which is actually pretty incredible.

Glad to know I wasn't the only one to catch this...

I agree completely with Mr. Camp. When the cast began to sing this song my heart jumped! Itt came to a halt when they changed the lyrics as pointed out. I am tired of being held hostage to political correctness.

Amen!

Throughout history, the culture at large reflected what was happening in the church and this is a perfect example of it. "Don't offend anyone with the name of Jesus, just make it generic!" The Bible tells there is no other name under Heaven whereby we must be saved, so the name of Jesus is essential in reaching the lost. Thank you, Steve for your principled stance and for your steadfast contention for the faith. May God continue to keep His hand of favor on your life and may many lost souls come to know Him through your efforts.

I normally don't watch Idol, though I see enough clips of it while watching the local FOX station's 10:00 newscast to have seen a rough image of it. I happened to catch the tail end of the song after coming home from church and missed the "substitution" altogether, though I did see the Ben Stiller stunt, and I share your disgust on both the changing of the words and the Stiller incident.

they said Jesus last night !

I taped AI last night(Wed)and watched it, too and they OPENED with the same song and said JESUS this time - just the way the song is supposed to go. It was awesome! I don't know why they repeated and corrected it, but they did. God has his hand in this season's AI and it is great! Dolly singing about Jesus, now this - that never happens on primetime!!! We should all be thankful this is going on with all those viewers. It is refreshing, for a change...

They did it right on Thursday night!

I noticed the word change Wednesday night too (changing Jesus to Shepherd). I was happy to see that Thursday night they opened the show with Shout to the Lord again and they did use Jesus' name. There have been several songs in this season of A.I. that have used the name of Jesus.

It should be noted that on Thursday night's performance, when reprising the song, they sang "My Jesus, my savior." http://youtube.com/watch?v=i6G0U8Vg6nY

Thank You

Thanks so much for giving us the correct lyrics to the song. I enjoyed hearing the song but, was troubled in some way. Now I know why. The switch was subtle. Thanks for clearing this up.

Thursday Night Idol they sang the song again at the opening of the show, and they did say Jesus. I thought it was awesome. Jerry Thornhill

The name of Jesus is powerful - as the song continues — "Mountains bow down and the seas will roar at the sound of your Name." Watch the eyes, the body language, and how quickly an otherwise benign conversation ends when you mention Jesus by name. I have experienced the phenomenon in church, on the street, at 12-step meetings, and in everyday situations. Truly the Name of the Lord is powerful and truly there is none other by which we may be saved. And surely those who oppose Him in their hearts cannot hide that truth at the sound of His Name. Thank you JESUS, now and forevermore, thank you, my JESUS, my SAVIOR.

It was a bit disturbing (though not surprising) Wednesday night when they changed the lyrics of one of my favorite contemporary Christian songs. Sadly, anymore, when someone DOES utter the name Jesus, they are often still not talking about the Jesus of the Bible. Scary stuff, but nothing we haven't been warned about in His Word. Interestingly, did you notice that last night on American Idol they sang the song again, but this time with the correct lyrics?! There must have been some controversy somewhere behind the scenes that they felt compelled to correct their error. Praise GOD!!

American Idol thoughts

I also noticed that the name of Jesus was omitted from the song since this would be politically incorrect for such a venue as this was. I also thought it was very upsetting to see Robin Williams pushing the homosexual agenda by grabing Simon in the buttocks and then later in the show, trying to portray a spiritual sensitivity by singing this song which left out the name of Jesus. This type of thing gets passed off as genuine spirituality but to the discerning Christian, one can see through the deception. Thanks, Dave Anderson, AZ.

That was yesterday; apparently this is a new day :)

Did you hear about tonight's show???? They sang it. They sang it for real, they sang the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. The CD version will have the name of Jesus, too (or so I've read) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7NQu4PhhmEI I was very, very down today. We are homeschoolers, but the public school violence this week is distressing to us. It seems that the high schools in Baltimore are life-threatening to teachers, and in another news story this week the headline read, "Lord of the Flies Makes Housecalls." I was weeping for the peers of my children and the future of our country. Then I got the news about tonight's AI show, where the young people sang the song the right way. I don't know what it means. I don't know those young people or who they are or why they were willing and able to sing "My Jesus, My Savior" on primetime TV. All I know is that MY JESUS, MY SAVIOR, gathered glory to His own precious name tonight in one of the largest secular venues available. I praise Him for strengthening and encouraging His people this way, and for making His name known to the nations.

This is a note I sent to Fox after the last night's Shout to the Lord rendition: RE: Last night’s American Idol Gives Back… you deleted the name of Jesus from the song Shout to the Lord! You also deleted two (2) lines of verse with His name mentioned. HOW DARE you ruin this song- deleting the name of Jesus who is the center and subject of this worship song. Trying to be pc? Fearful of world-wide banning of your show? Less than front page global press? I know you would never delete the name of Allah or Mohammed from any idol contestant’s name, song, conversation matter for fear of threats from the Islamist world- but Christianity is okay to mutilate? Did you not think anyone would care or notice? Did you not think? ************************************ For you bless the righteous, O LORD; you cover him with favor as with a shield. - Psalms 5:12

I have to agree here and say that by leaving out the One whom this song is meant to be sung to- the people who censored Jesus' name could fill in the blank. What- My buddha, my Mohummad- there is none like you?! Why bother having the song at all? This is not surprising, coming from a secular "fund raiser", nor a popular TV show. Not surprising in the least, but it makes me sad that they denied Jesus and wouldn't allow Him to come.

Idol on Thursday night...

My family and I were shocked when they sang that worship song and yes, we did notice they changed "Jesus" to Shepherd. However, we were still happy about them singing it. Then to our shock they sang it again on the Thursday night results show (in fact started the show with it) and they did sing it with Jesus in it as written. Wow! Would love to know the behind-the-scenes on all of this. We send our Kudos to the show producers.
