This is a good answer to a potentially hostile audience. Love the Lord with all your strength, mind, and soul. This clip does not include that every one comes to Jesus as a sinner, but we have to attract people close enough to teach them. Do you want our faiths deepest truths reduced to sound bites that fit nicely between comercial breaks? It is the churches job to educate beyond this first inital step. If we excluded people who did not have a solid theology and clear devotion to Jesus the church would be empty on Sunday. We come with our best, flawed and often shallow, and allow Him to complete in us the work He started. So Rick is a bit shallow and off center at times, cant you take someone who has been introduced to Jesus and help them know Jesus?

Rick Warren's Gospel
Posted On: 02/21/08 11:12:00 AM Age 49, FL
The problem with this little video is that it is way edited too long. I'm not even sure if the first pary where Hannity introduces the topic is linked to the actual quote by Rick Warren. Rick Warren seems to be talking here about Christian service not about salvation, which is totally by grace and by what Christ did on the cross. I believe that Rick Warren understands that. So, I'm going to believe the best. Instead of us worrying about whether Rick Warren shares the Gospel, we could do better and use that time and energy to share the Gospel ourselves. Kees

Understanding????

What about Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the Lord with ALL your heart and lean NOT on your OWN understanding. I guess that says it all for me.

Warren vs. the Bible
Posted On: 02/21/08 11:01:55 AM Age 70, NJ
The Bible says much about God giving us blessings and us giving to others, but no where (search for yourself) does it speak of us giving anything to Christ except thanks and praise. And none of these have anything to do with going to heaven. What the Bible DOES say is "whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved." (Acts 2:21 and Rom 10:13) And, contrary to "doing as much as we understand" for Christ, the Bible says that God did it freely for us, in Eph 2:8-10: "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast." This and other things that Warren has said reveal him to be one of those teachers that the Bible warns us about in 2 Tim 4:3-4: "For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables."

Warren claims he spent 12 hours a day for 7 months making his message less wordy. After listening to multiple conversations by Warren he seems afraid to say that Jesus is the only way to heaven and that all other paths lead to hell and seperation from God. Warren and Osteen and others just can't seem to bring themselves to saying the truth point blank in 30 words or less. He rambles on and on and explains each point with a story and chases rabbit trails. Charlie Rose gave him at least 1/2 hour and asked him hanging slowball questions to swing at and he was unable to clearly share the gospel a single time. Pathetic. He came close a few times, but just could not bring himslef to do it. The beloved Apostle Paul says it best, "Beleieve in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved" Acts 16:31.

My Bible says...
Posted On: 02/21/08 10:06:53 AM Age 36, GA
My Bible says that you must be born-again.

Cannot disagree with much of what he says here.
Posted On: 02/21/08 10:04:28 AM Age 44, TX
From the beginning in Eden the devil tempted Eve with, "and ye shall be as god...” This is really what idolatry is all about; I mean who really worships a rock carving? I think we do have a choice in our day to day lives ("I put before you a choice") on weather are actions are Gods way or not, like Warren was saying, and I do not think that he is making a lot of right choices lately, but in the clip he really appear to me to address the issue of how Warren says to get to heaven which is not a choice we make day to day. This clip seems really misleading. Did he step on some Calvinist toes?

We can't do it....
Posted On: 02/21/08 09:46:28 AM Age 35, GA
The bottom line is that there is nothing we can do to save ourselves. We have to accept that what Jesus did for us saves us. If we are truly saved then the Holy Spirit is in us and we count on Him to guide us. We are given a "conscience" to help us make the right decisions and a repentant heart when we don't. It's not the right decisions that save us, that is a by-product of our salvation.

Repentance and the uncompromised Gospel
Posted On: 02/21/08 09:41:31 AM Age 66, NE
I still don't here much about how great our sin is in contrast to God's holiness. Most of all there seems to be a complete omitting of the need for repentance. Like David who sinned against his fellow man, but most of all against God, had a broken heart and deeply repented of his sins. When we wholesale the Gospel as just trying God or to go down His road and thats all you need, we leave out the heart of the message. Understanding our sin, having a deep conviction of that sin and then repenting to a Holy God are stepping stones to receiving Christ as both savior and Lord.

Misleading Statement
Posted On: 02/21/08 09:30:01 AM Age 41, GA
I don't understand what that statement (Give as much of myself as I understand to as much of Jesus as I understand at that moment and grow in it) would have to do with how you get to heaven. The bible says that the only way to get to heaven (see the kingdom of God) is to be born again (John 3:3)you must repent or you will perish. His statement in my opinion is misleading that as long as you are a 'good' person trying to do what is right based on what you understand at that moment you will go to heaven, he says nothing about you must repent be born again and then comes the giving and understanding. In my own opinion if you are seaching but never repent be born again and you die you go to hell. Being in the searching stage is not being born again and will not get you into heaven. This is what I believe that the Bible says about entering into the kingdom of God you MUST be born again.

If you are going to make claims that someone if a false prophet, please try to give some biblical evidence. All you are doing is slandering someone (by the way, that would be sin). This clip only shows part of what Rick said. I agree with what he said in the clip. Notice he was already talking about being a follower of Christ. I don't know about you, but I know in my life, I am still growing a learning and I have to follow God according to what I understand about Him and His word. There are a few things here and there that Rick says I might not 100% agree with, but he is not a false prophet!

Exactly what I did in the grace of God
Posted On: 02/21/08 09:19:49 AM Age 41, TN
Pastor Warren's statement is exactly correct. Jesus said, "Let the little children come unto me for such is the kingdom of God." We all know that that means that you must come in your simple understanding of who God is & what He's done for you. He will grow that exercise of faith. He will grow it indeed. He grew it in me from a decision just like that at age 10.

Ready to start my own Bible Based church, I am so tired of the deception!
Posted On: 02/21/08 09:19:38 AM Age 39, IL
Is that all that was said? No mention of salvation through the cross? So according to Rick, as long as I make the right choices each day, choosing to go God's way, instead of my own (satan's way) I will go to heaven?! I guess according to the Purpose Driven Bible, it also depends on what I know of God. So if I am ignorant of truth but do the best that I can to follow God according to what I know, (which if I am ignorant of truth, is impossible), I will go to heaven?! Did I understand that right? I am getting so disgusted with organized religion any more. It seems like so many people in the church are becoming indoctrinated by Rick, Tony, Rob, etc. Who do you trust, where does it stop? I wish that all these postmodern thinkers had signs on their heads that said, "don't follow me, I'm a false prophet". We just moved to a new area and at my new church we're serving in Student ministries. Before we volunteered we met with the youth pastor and even discussed our disagreement with the postmodern thinkers, he agreed with us and I thought that we were safe. I thought that the Youth Pastor was right on, everything that he says has been ok so far, and then several weeks later he started talking about the books he's read. Guess what, Barbarian Way, Blue Like Jazz, and of course, you guessed it, Velvet Elvis. He also decided that all of the leaders should study the Purpose Driven Youth Ministry. Why is it that in order to be relevant to the teen generation you have to sell out to the postmodern agenda? I am so thankful, that God has opened our eyes to this blasphemy, and thank you WVW for helping us stay alert!

give him "some" credit
Posted On: 02/21/08 09:08:45 AM Age 46, AR
I saw the interview. He did not fully present the gospel, but he did clearly state there is a heaven and hell. Also last I heard, the "profit" was not living rich from his book sales. He was using the money to help others, had stopped taking a salary from the church and even repaid everything they had every paid him.

Let's think about this
Posted On: 02/21/08 09:07:34 AM Age 59, NC
I too do not agree with much of what Warren renders. This comment does not seem to be that far off base, especially when you include the full quote “ And then you keep growing”. Who among us gave totally of ourselves to Christ when we first became Christians? We gave all that we understood at that time. At the time we thought it was all. But as we grow in Christ we give more of ourselves because we understand more about ourselves, biblically and understand more about God and Christ. What concerns me more is the way we traditionalist are fighting the Warren’s of this world. We nit pick to the point of almost being ridicules in the eyes of many. Why waste time with something like this comment, when there are so many more glaring issues to deal with? We in the more tradition and fundamental Church have a bad tendency to cry wolf at everything. We should take heed of the lesson of the fable of Peter & the Wolf. We don’t want to scream a warning so often that people stop listening to us.

scam

How do you know he is a scam? What proof do you have?

Depends on your perspective
Posted On: 02/21/08 09:06:09 AM Age 43, TN
Seems as if you want to judge Rick Warren by the lack of words. It was Biblicial from the fact that all of us have to accept Christ where we are and them move forward on the journey. Examples, woman at the well, demon possesed man, all the disciples. What is failing is our individual responsability to share the gospel and do all we can to help people take the next step, which takes energy and time.

59 seconds tells us all we need to know about Rick Warren?
Posted On: 02/21/08 09:01:42 AM Age 49, MT
I'm no Rick Warren fan, but I think it is unfair to decide his orthodoxy on 59 seconds. He uses language in a way that's different than the "christianese" we often hear in churches. Now, I'm not defending him, I'm just pointing out that it's awfully easy to nitpick shades of doctrine on something like this. A non-believer who has had his fill of sanctimonious Christians might just take hold of what Rick Warren said and take the next step. We make it so hard for non-believers to enter the Kingdom. If a non-believer thinks he has to have full theological understanding, all his ducks in a row, and do all the right things in order to get saved, then Rick Warren has done a service to unburden that person into a theological truth: "Just as I am without a plea." There is much to criticize Rick Warren about, but on this it seems we're putting him under a microscope to see if he toes the line on every jot and tittle.
