Manay preachers I have heard always tell you what you shoul be doing or what you should be like. However they never tell you how to obtain that ability. Mainly because they don't know. One day Jesus told me: Man does not know what he needs because he does not know what he is.

Unless we believe that Jesus really is God's son and trust in Jesus' divinity enough to believe what He said and also accept--it instead of clinging to our various doctrinal preferences--we'll all be sadly disappointed when He returns and tells many who think they're following him "I never knew you. Away from me, you evil-doers!" (Matt.8:21-23). For example, how many people truly believe and practice,"He that believes AND is baptized shall be saved..." (Mark 16:16) or "...teaching them to obey EVERYTHING I have commanded you..." (Matt.28:19-20)? How many believe, "Anyone who does not take up his CROSS and follow me is unworthy of me" (Matt.10:38) and the passage where Jesus says, "If you love me, keep my commandments"? Every Christian needs to be clear about Jesus' claim that He is "The way, The truth and The life" and NO-ONE can go to God except through Him (John 14:6-7). We only fool ourselves (and others) if we try to teach it any other way. Being IN Christ is not that difficult (Galations 3:26-27).

Does Man Indeed...
Posted On: 02/22/08 09:57:23 PM Age 44, TN
Does man indeed have a tremendous potential for good except for an attitude of disobedience toward God? The two statements are mutually exclusive. Look, I know that Rick Warren has a way of sounding right-on. Every time I begin to think that he's o.k., he does or says something indefensible. Yet, he seems to enjoy unquestioning loyalty from his adherents. I admit, that creeps me out. Bottom line with RW: Confused soteriology, and a low view of scripture.

You forgot to say what intollerent, judgemental, meanies people are when they point out the unflattering TRUTH about the Rickster.

"Salvation is a gift from God to man. Man can never make up for his sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God“s offer of forgiveness can man be saved from sin“s penalty. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his life by faith." But he left out the Holiness of God, our own depraved condition and our need for repentance from sin. That Man is separated God because of sin. There is no repentance in Warren's mantra. If we are saved, we ought to know what we are saved from. He tows the line as much as he can trying to still sound Christian. Warren is such a phony.... He does this every time he gets caught. Then he comes right back with his heresies. Danny

Warren's Church's Statement of truth
Posted On: 02/22/08 07:47:06 PM Age 42, FL
It may say that on the webpage, and hopefully it is taught at Saddleback every Sunday- but whenever I have heard Rick Warren speak, he may bring up Jesus' name but he never seems to bring up the way of salvation. The man is very influencial and moves in some pretty powerful circles, and if he was really concerned about the world- as a Bible believing Christian, he would make more of an effort to try and talk the gospel with people. His latest P.E.A.C.E plans show that he is more concerned about how humans as all a part of a global village can bring about God's Kingdom on earth. People can try, but we will never be able to solve all the world's problems. One last point here- Jesus told us that the world would hate those of us who follow Him. Rick Warren seems to want people to like him in order to make his plans a reality. He spends more time trying to make a case for making things better here on earth for man's good- but not much time teaching the Gospel message for a much better place in the next life. He may be a sincere man, but I think as Christians we must hold Christians accountable for insincere practces and teaching.

If they (FOX) edited his responses then...

I'd like to think that you are correct but I happened to catch this video late one night. If in fact FOX is cutting, pasting and editing Rick Warren's interview in order to make him look like a false teacher, then Rick Warren should take issue with it - but he has not.

I heard he signed that muslim-Christian alliance papers

along with a lot of liberal theologians which downplays the divinity of Christ and sounds kind of one world churchish to me.

Mr. Warren's testimony

The segment began by saying Rick Warren will tell us how to get to heaven. I waited anxiously. I knew he would hit a homerun. He struck out.

No misquote - just his own words
Posted On: 02/22/08 11:45:11 AM Age 35, CANADA
This isn't a cut and paste job, it is "Pastor" Warren's own words to describe how to get to heaven. He tells the viewer that they must work as hard as they can and Christ will do the rest. This is not Biblical Christianity, it resembles Mormonism or Catholic doctrine. If this were my pastor the biggest question I would have is "what is enough?" How much work do I need to do? What is the minimum to enter heaven? This "gospel" would leave so much uncertainty I would fear my whole life that I wasn't doing enough to stay in God's graces.

Correction

exception, not "acception". Sorry.

What's the big deal anyway?
Posted On: 02/22/08 11:20:53 AM Age 53, PA
The problem that "pastors" like Warren and Osteen cause for faith communities is beyond measure: When we attempt to preach the Gospel in the local congregation to people who have become bedazzled by the marketing message of "little cost-big return on your spiritual investment" we become mean-spirited Christians who are narrow minded Simons living in Samaria offering to pay for real power. (Acts 8: 19) I, am praying for these people to understand that a daily walk with Jesus requires repentence, forgiveness, faith, and the Holy Spirit, and that the best you can do as a human living in sin is always the Grace of Jesus Christ. Let us all pray that the Spirit will give us the discernment to say what is needed to counter this heresy.

Truly Sad
Posted On: 02/22/08 10:01:04 AM Age 61, MO
What is truly sad about this commentary, and which speaks volumes about the heathen condition of America, is not so much what Rick Warren had to say, but that hundreds of thousands were in fact watching that television show. George Cancilla

Nice assumptions

I find it amazing that you think that dealing with false teachers is not fit for mature Christians (and that anyone who does doesn't also read the Bible). You must not think much of Paul, who named names and described heresies--or Jesus, either.--Mrs. Pilgrim

Well then
Posted On: 02/22/08 09:46:34 AM Age 29, TX
Mr. Warren could just as easily issue a statement about these misrepresentations, couldn't he? Didn't he do that about his scrap with Joseph Farah of WorldNetDaily (although it turned out that it wasn't a misrepresentation at all, and that he HAD, in fact, said that Syria was a peaceful haven for Christians)? Why is it that Mr. Warren invariably remains silent when he is publicly depicted as failing to provide the whole, pure, and unadulterated Gospel?--Mrs. Pilgrim

What a disappointment.

I saw that interview and RW continues to disappoint me every time he goes on the air, with his flimsy advocacy of the Christian faith.

what are you saying?
Posted On: 02/22/08 07:58:25 AM Age 52, IL
are you saying that Rick Warren supports and preaches Biblical Christianity. Please, find a way to listen to what he acturally said next time before you comment on it. Rick Warren does not faithfully represent God's Word, and so he misleads many, and will have much to answer for. I pray that he will repent and follow the Way, the Truth, and the Life which is and only is, Jesus the Christ, the Son of the Living God.

response to Rick Warren's statement
Posted On: 02/22/08 07:36:18 AM Age 68, IN
Hebrews 9:22 Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins. Man needds to understand his guilt before a holy God. Then he needs to understand that God's Son shed his blood for sinners and that Jesus Christ died and rose again for his redemption. This is the gospel! We do not know what the media cut out of Rick Warren's response. Inplace of being critical of others let us take this as a warning toward us to be sure to share the whole gospel AND to use Scripture.

Bizzar!

I have been a Christian for 29 years. About 20 years ago I started opening my eyes to the revelation of apostosy in the American church. Before I accepted Gods gift of redemption I had personal relationships and fellowship with demonic spirits. They (demons) really are fallen angels of light. They really are wolves in lambs clothing. I had been had by the same crafty, clever, charming, atractive and seducing beings that tempted the Lord Jesus Himself. These evil spirits had one thing in mind for me (and you), to kill me and drag me to an eternal hell...period! I'm not the hippest guy in the world. As a matter of fact, it turns out that I'm just an uneducated country boy, but I did learn a few things about how these demonic spirits operate. We had better realize that these fallen angels do not die and they have been doing what they do for at least 6,000 years. They're pretty good at it and we're not. If someone had told me, just 10 years ago, that this New Age garbage would be the rule and not the acception in the American "Christian" church, I would have said-"you're nuts!". Has God changed His mind about where that "wide and easy path" leads? At BEST, this is all these hoodwinked preachers push. I'm sick of hearing these "men" go on national TV apologizing for what Christ actually requires of His true converts. One person here talked about how the "media" makes fools of these people. Are you kidding?! The whole "seeker friendly" demonic message is about fitting into the world. The mainstream media loves these guys because they're safe. They tell a lost America that we're all going to heaven and Christians that actually try to live it are mean and intollerant. Have a mind of your own. Stop taking these men at THEIR word that they are holy. They all preach that it's OUR works that get us to heaven. It's a lie from hell! They are repulsed by that bloody cross. Don't be lazy. Test the spirits. Go and see videos of Rick Warren puting his arm around Barak Hussein Obama and saying: "This is my friend and I support him". He is proud that he is chums with a partial birth, same-sex marriage, Anti-American activist that is led by a spirit of antichrist. Be careful defending these enemies of Christ. You will not be able to use THEIR "spirituality" when you hear those tragic words-"depart from Me, I never knew you". This is real life.

Warren's church's Statement of Belief (excerpted)
Posted On: 02/22/08 01:20:57 AM Age 39, KY
Scripture commands us to speak the truth to one another. Here is the truth of what Warren teaches about salvation. For the entire faith statement see his church's website at: http://www.saddleback.com/flash/believe2.html Man is made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. He is the supreme object of God“s creation. Although man has tremendous potential for good, he is marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called "sin". This attitude separates man from God. (cites Scriptures) Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all men by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven“s glory and will return again to earth to reign as King of kings, and Lord of lords. (cites Scriptures) Salvation is a gift from God to man. Man can never make up for his sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God“s offer of forgiveness can man be saved from sin“s penalty. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his life by faith. (cites Scriptures)
