All I can is Amen brother. I would rather be in a church with only 10 members with a pastor that preached the Bible than one of the churches Mr. Baumann described in his article. Judgment day is coming and we all need to be wake up to the truth of the Bible!

Thank you Pastor Ray Bauman, for your excellent article on the truths of being relevant or not. It's so good to hear these refreshing words coming from a pastor, because my husband and I are sure getting tired of hearing from the 'relevant church culture'. As God's word says, "we must become like a child to understand and receive his salvation" but as you clearly reveal Ray, true Godly, sorrowful repentance must come first!! Praise His Name

Ray:
I have mixed thoughts in response to your article. One thought is that since society is focused on self and no one will by them- selves deny self, then self-ish need to be enticed to join a church. Now, I know of course that they are just playing head games and that they are not Christian by attending church, but people do become Christian when they are at the end of them-selves. So when the end comes, the hope is that since they are already in church, the truth could be more easily received. This is the perfect senario view.
My second thought is that these churches that attempt to fill the pews with carnal "Christians" will never preach the truth anyway and thus just cater to their carnality, love gospel, and sense of self entitlement.
Are we to assume the worst but hope for the best? I don't know, since I don't know what this church actually preaches. What say you?

The idea of using material things to attract people to church encourages the love of mammon, and is in contradiction to what Jesus said about mammon: "No man can serve two masters: for he will either hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God AND mammon." (Matthew 6:24). It is bad enough that many pastors have turned their church houses into places of entertainment rather than worship. The idea that any means justifies the end of presenting the Gospel is a fallacy. George Cancilla

Well written and very thoughtful. Jesus also warned in Matthew 7: 21-23 21Not every one that said to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that does the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in your name? and in your name have cast out devils? and in your name done many wonderful works? 23And then will I profess to them, I never knew you: depart from me, you that work iniquity.

Is there any wonder that the Senate finance committee is looking into the records of several successful gospel marketeers? Paula and Randy White; Joyce Meyer and Benny Hinn, Gloria and Kenneth Copeland ; Eddie Long; and Creflo and Taffi Dollar. I'm sure they weren't just on the short list of excessively "blessed" ministers.
Hey, if they're successful at getting followers and receiving the "blessing," why not build our own churches that way?

Paul told us that there is only one Gospel and he cursed anyone who taught a different gospel. We were not commanded to save anyone only to present the true Gospel, Christ told us if they did not listen to shake the dust off our feet and move on. After He had fead thousands He said the only reason you follow me is for a free meal. He rejected those who were only there for the food.
