John thanks for the article. I disagree with your item 15. The right to life or safety is a God given right and not given by any government. Our Declaration of Independence gives us as US citizens the God given right to life and our US Constitution gives us the right to keep and bear arms. Even the liberal Thomas Jefferson said it is the responsibility of every citizen to own a rifle and know how to use it. Also I disagree with your item 17; It is not the responsibility of government to decide these rights but they are God given and it is the responsibility of government to recognize this fact. All men are subject to The Lord Jesus Christ and all governments are subject to Him also. Their ignorance of this fact does not change their responsibility. The basic unit of government in all the creation of The Lord Jesus is: Christ is head and then the FAMILY IS THE UNIT OF GOVERNMENT THAT IS ORDAINED OF GOD. The father is the head and if all fathers were responsible we would have no need of "governments" or church leaders. All other forms of government were brought about because of fathers NOT being responsible to God Almighty. Even in our present day "the government is on His shoulder" being the shoulder of the Lord Jesus Christ. If His people will HUMBLE THEMSELVES (Repent) and fast and pray He will hear from heaven and heal our land. Lou

John, if Christians are not called to bear the sword for justice, then what should the Good Samaritan have done if he arrived on the scene while the stranger was being accosted? Should he have defended the stranger, should he have just called for help, or maybe just pulled up a chair and waited? John, I think your biblical world view needs adjustment because what would Jesus have done? Yep, died to self. I find this very strange that we want to change a parable Jesus told about love and ask different questions. Maybe I am missing it but Jesus gave them this answer: "I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does." (John 5v19) This is how we need to react in the situation - do what our Father is doing not ask what would Jesus have done.

How beautifully outlined this is! I wish more churches would take a gentle but firm stand for the Truth.--Mrs. Pilgrim

Some problems

Disagree with 15) What if the God ordained civil government (being "We the People") has granted the right of its citizenry (individuals) to bear firearms "bear the sword" for safety (self defense) and justice. (Esther 8:11, Exodus 22:2 ) Disagree with 13-14) Since God's Laws overide the laws of Men, Civil governments operating under the rule of "righteousness exalts a nation" may prohibit the doctrine and worship of false gods and declare the one true God be feared and not spoken against. (Due 5:7, Daniel 3:29, Daniel 6:26, Joshua 23:7, Jonah 3:6-9, 2Chron 33:15, 2Kings 23:24, etc) It also does not violate Scripture for Civil governments to demand that its rulers be men who fear God as well as serve the Lord Jesus Christ. (Exodus 18:21 and Psalm 2:10-12 )

John: I agree with most of your points but you get a little fuzzy in some areas. However, I strongly disagree withh your point #15. You said: "We believe that God has given to civil government, not individuals or the church, the duty to "bear the sword" for justice and safety. (Matthew 26:52; Romans 13:1-4; Romans 12:17-21; 1 Peter 2:20-23; 3:9, 14)" Friend: Your scriptures really do not support your conclusions, but you chose to believe they do. Let me ask you, if Christians are not called to bear the sword for safety, then why take any defense for any evil? I know you are a Calvinist so let me see if you are hipocritical- do you have life or health insurance? Do you wear a seat belt? Do you lock your doors at night? Why, are you concerned with your safety? John, if Christians are not called to bear the sword for justice, then what should the Good Samaritan have done if he arrived on the scene while the stranger was being accosted? Should he have defended the stranger, should he have just called for help, or maybe just pulled up a chair and waited? John, I think your biblical world view needs adjustment because what would Jesus have done? Yep, died to self. I wrote an article on this, anyone can request a copy at jchristco@aol.com John

Thank you for sharing these points. I think any honest Christians will find them useful when facing many of the complex trials in this world today. George Cancilla

It would be nice if more churches espoused these basic ideals towards dealing with other religions. Then it's just a matter of getting the churches to actually do something, rather than just put it out in a statement one Sunday, and preaching one sermon about it, and it alone. "We should not conceal aspects of our faith in order to avoid criticism or disapproval." Unfortunately, we compromise, in general, and reveal our "true" faith rather than the faith we should have. Hopefully more churches will stand up to the criticism and stand up for the Truth.
