Re: Doug Pagitt. Heretic or Not?

Heretic. The emergent philisophical bent to scripture is about as sharp and clear as a boiled egg. Coming to Christ brings into focus that we are truly dead without the regenerative work of the Holy Spirit, and by the washing of the Word we see why Jesus had to suffer and then die. That we are meant to be intimate partakers of that is left out of the emergent "philosophy". 2Tim.4:3-4 Doug Pagitt's vain prattle makes a mockery out of the Moslems and Hindus who have come to Christ and are tortured and murdered for their faith because they will not deny Him...they can't, because they KNOW HIM.

To be a heretic wouldn't one have to be preaching a false "Gospel"? The message he is preaching is Baha'i. He may call it what he wishes but when your "truth" is as squishing as silly putty it is rather hard to define anything and call it absolute truth. He doesn't use scripture to persuade; he uses New Age logic which has no boundaries and adapts to the situation at hand. We called this "situation ethics" during the '80s. Heretic? No but he is a lost, confused, new age shaman.

The seeming arrogance here grieves me greatly. In a 15 minute question and answer session we decide that someone is going to hell? It's one thing to say what sends someone to heaven or hell but quite another to "determine" that someone is going to hell. And a Q&A session doesn't reveal all of what someone thinks. Questions are often slanted. If I ask, "Have you stopped beating your wife?" ... there's not a good way to answer that. I'm ok with disagreeing with people ... but this kind of vitriolic speech grieves me. Non-believers often accuse us of being hate mongers ... and my fear is that they're right.

Heretic: He claims to go by what the Bible says but when you tell him what the Bible says he scoffs at it and clearly continues to push his own false doctrine.

Doug Pagitt is a heretic without any doubt!! Doug apparently knows scripture and yet is perverting it. This perversion of scripture is exactly what satan did and he will continue to do so along with all of his minnions. This unfortunately is what Doug Paggit proves himself to be!! Doug, those that preach and teach GOD'S words in a willful perverted manner that deceives people will indeed suffer hells worst eternal punishment.

Yes, remember the judge not passage in Matthew 7, verse 1? Well please read a little further where Jesus Said that we'd know them by their fruits. We are not to judge others, when we're doing just the same, or worse. But we are warned to be on the lookout for those who would deceive us. Matthew 7:15-23, "Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are they? So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor can a bad tree produce good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. So then, you will know them by their fruits. Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. Many will say to Me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?' And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.' "

Doug Pagitt has a religion of his own and it is not Biblical Christianity. He contridicts John 14:6 and believes that God will accept every person Reguardless what the person believes. He does believe not in the depravity of man and that we all deserve hell based on our works. He does not understand the grace of God. He does not believe in absolute truth. He is a dangerous heretic. He twists the scripture the same way Satan does.

Heretic of course. Why would there even be a question. His own mouth condems him. If the speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

It would be so easy to settle this in his favor if he would simply state what the Bible clearly says. There is only one way to be saved - through the blood of Jesus Christ. By not being willing to do so, he is justly held to be in error at the very least. His views, or what we assume are his views since he won't be clear, sound like universalism. He isn't saying everyone will face judgment on an equal plane. He's saying we all have the same chance for heaven. If not then why doesn't he just say so? Don't defend what he hasn't said.

Heretic. He is horribly twisting and even ignoring Scripture.

Heretic. Gal 1:8,9 'But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel than that which we have preached to you, let him be accursed (removed). As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel to you than that you have receieved, let him be accursed.' Paul wanted to so emphasize the importance of this that he stated it twice. We need to pray for the people of America to love the truth and not sell it for the false Emergent verbage emphasizing experiences. Jude warns us of these, 'sensual, having not the Spirit.' Psalm 82:2 'How long will you judge unjustly and accept the persons of the wicked?' God have mercy on us and remove them!

Praise the Lord for your excellent pointing out in Scripture from Jesus' words of the real place He is preparing for us! That is what has to be done in response to all untruth, point out the truth. And you did that so precisely. Amen! God's grace to you to continue earnestly contending for the faith! Lynn

The definition of a HairyTick is a parasite that lives in the undergrowth of this world waiting to attach itself to an unsuspecting passerby inorder to suck the life blood out of that individual. Many who have been bitten have come down with a lime colored disease called liberalism of which there is only one known cure. It's called repenting and turning to the Jesus of the Bible, not the Jesus of Doug Pagitt's imagination.

Heretic. Without question. He doesn't take the Word of God seriously at all. He might pay lipservice to its authority, but he doesn't really believe it, hence the "honey nailed to a tree" comment (appropriate). For him and other emergents, the Bible is a plaything... either that or a means to gain influence. "...hating even the garment polluted by the flesh."

Trying to hold someone accountable to what the Bible clearly states is as willing to engage as you can get! He claims to be a Christian and yet it's obvious that he refuses to stand where Scripture clearly does. Is everyone going to be saved regardless of what they believe about Jesus Christ? The Bible is very clear about that. How do you explain what Jesus said in John 14:6? Are there many "ways", many "truths" and many "lifes?" If so, then Jesus is wrong. You can believe that if you want but don't call yourself a Christian if you do. At least be honest about what you believe. Doug, like so many "pastors" today obfuscates when it comes to doctrine. The great sin in the minds of his ilk is to be clear and to actually believe that something is propositionally true. If you are comfortable identifying with him then I pity you.

Don't deal with the issues raised but attack the messenger and you'll always be able to feel vindicated. Did you bother to hear what the man believes? If so, was it okay with you and your view of what the Bible says?
