Hey Friend:
Thanks for your response- You misread my intent when you stated: "You speak about John Calvin as though he was preaching some foreign gospel when in fact he was one of the best teachers the Church has ever had." My intent was not to put Clavin in the same boat as false prophets, (I never addressed heresy but questionable teaching such as rapture, etc.)
My intent was to put Calvin followers, rapture followers, "love" followers, etc in a seperate boat than Christ followers. Are you a Calvin follower? If so, ask yourself why. Paul was forcefully against those who tried to follow him, and put all the glory on Christ, not a theology, or a sliver of truth. Ask yourself, would Calvin accept your adulation or would he chastise you? I think perhaps he would chastise you.
Friend: Do not follow man, however Saintly you think them to be. I guarantee you that Calvin was not 100% correct and Arminius was not 100% false in their teachings. No man is 100% correct in his theology because we will never fully know the mind of Christ while on earth. John

What strikes me as interesting is that Tony Campolo doesn't seem to appreciate Paul's epistles (which were inspired)...why?

Sir, it is apparent to me that you glossed over the response to that statement which said that all scripture is given by inspiration of God, no Christian can rightfully place one part of scripture above another, clearly no scripture is of any private interpretation. We are called to rightly divide the word of truth. You speak about John Calvin as though he was preaching some foreign gospel when in fact he was one of the best teachers the Church has ever had. Dont forget that it is God who appoints preachers and teachers for HIS purpose in HIS Church. It is no wonder the church has drifted so far from it was intended to be, false teachers and false prophets have been infecting the Gospel since the start of the Church, as Peter points out in 2 peter the last chapter, some people really struggle with Pauls epistles like they do with ALL SCRIPTURE to their own destruction. Pauls letters were considered scripture by the Church and so as Scripture they are in perfect balance with all the Bible. I sugest you examine yourself as we all must to make sure that we are in the Faith and if not get in line! We must earnestly contend for the faith once and for all delivered to the Saints!

Very good discussion! I particularly like the paragraph that says: "What I’m trying to get at is that I think a lot of Christians are Paul-ophiles. Theirs is a Paulocentric reading of scripture. I’m advocating for a Christocentric reading. We need to read Paul through the lens of Jesus, not the other way around."
We all want our itching ears tickled and because of this, some worship at the alter of John Calvin, the alter of Eternal Security, the alter of Pre-Trib rapture, the alter of Jesus is Love, the alter of passive tolerance, etc.
Indeed, the Kool Aid we drink is a result of our Christ-view. Did Christ die to free us for ourselves, or to free us from ourselves? Is salvation to benefit us, or to glorify God? Does Christ love us, or does He love Himself and desires to reside in us? John

The Law was given to show us that we are all sinners. Jesus was given to us so we could receive Him to keep the law for us. Having Jesus in us is the only way we will ever be able to fulfill the Law. George Cancilla

The Law and The Gospel Is an interesting discussion topic for any believer. So how do you 2 balance the fact that in moderen Christianity we pick and choose which of the 600+ Laws that are ours and discard the others. When Christ came to fulfill the law did that mean we are to do the same in our individual walks or did He do it for us so we could be found worthy to be in the presence of the Father? So is your salvation based on what Christ did or on what we do as individuals? You see it comes back to the basics again are we seeking the miracle or the miracle maker?
