I found it interesting that there are instances where armed civilians have harrased invading armies to the point that the armies left the country and decided that the daily casualties accrued were not worth the fight. Isn't it amazing that we are basically facing the same situation in Iraq. I agree that some are now receiving better trainning due to these terrorist trainning camps set up by Bin Ladden and other terrorist groups. Do not underestimate a devoted man and his gun. By the way the M1A1 tank has its limitations and cannot go into high country where one man or several men can go. If you are also referring to the helicopters we have in our arsenal they can be shot down very easily so I believe in armed civilians. I know that hunters have rifles that actually have longer range accuracy than some military wepons. So I still believe that civilians pushed into a corner can throw down a good fight.

I think it is sad when we even have to discuss this story as I learned respect for guns that people do not have today. I remember when you could put a hunting rifle in your truck and no one would even touch it because we had respect for others and their property. I guess honestly those days are gone and so now we trust our government to make our regulations when they truly do not know what is right or wrong. I believe all who want to own guns and have the proper respect for them have the right to own them. It is sad to say that there are no easy answers to this problem of owning guns. I believe that with many problems today that is a matter of the heart and until we got our minds and hearts back on GOD we are going to have this problem. I plan to defend myself against all enemies foreign and domestic and even those who cross my threshold uninvited who plan to do harm to my family will meet GOD face to face if I can do anyting in my power to make it so. It does seem very sad that with all the laws enacted we seem to have forgotten the problem and that is that the bad guys keep finding ways to get guns yet we law abidding citizens go through the ringer to own a gun legally. I belong to the NRA and am proud of it but what you all do not see is that banning guns is only the tip of the iceburg. In the end they will regulate this country into non-existence. We have enough gun laws on the books and even those laws are not being enforced so what more can you do but protect yourself.

I have yet to heqar of any Church even considering such a move but I do know of Churches who call upon it's members to turn in thier firearms. Somhow, calling upon the innocent to disarm while forgiving the criminals and even going so far as to condem those who refuse to follow the example of Lott doesn't sound right. "If a man wishes to rape your wife, give him your daughter also?"

Illeagal weapons cannot be controlled so the government will exert its efforts on the law abiding. You love to use Iraq as an example. All too often, our troops are disarming the innocent and allowing the bad guys to kill them without resistence. When the courts ruled that any firearm surrendered in a gun buyback or amnesty turn in program cannot be used as evidence in a criminal case because it would violate the Constitutions gurantee against self incrimination, they only accepted legal weapons and would hand the criminal back his gun. If they took it, that weapon was no longer able to be used as evidence. Government disarmament programs always disarm the innocent and excuse the guilty.

There is a saying "An armed society is a polite society" Every shooting incident we have had to date consisted of one armed assailant mowing down unarmed "Serfs" sometimes by the dozens. When was the last time you heard of a gun club shooting? While handing out guns to everybody might not be the answer, calling upon the innocent to disarm while crime is rampant isn't either.

Almost forgot, most of the article talked about control of the ILLEGAL gun sales and tracking legal sales. I ask what good has come with the flood of illegal weapons to third world countries? Has it made them safer ? Helped with socail problems ? Maybe we need to give more weapons to Iraq's, and I would hate to see Iran's right to sell arms controlled. As far as armed citizens protecting us from the gov't...forget it I'll bet a squad of US Army soilders and a couple of helecopters or an A-1 tank could take out the entire Missouri miltia in an hour or two. After the first shot they would run home drink beer, and watch football.

Oh, what a lovely article. I can see the headlines now. CHRISTAINS HAND OUT GUNS AT CHURCH PICNIC or how about JESUS SAYS TO ALWAYS CARRY THE CORRECT MACHINE GUN FOR THE JOB. Using the logic of this article we could end violence and have a better country if we just gave everyone a hand gun. Just think we would most likely save enough on police and prison costs to pay for the program. We could give them to every kid the day they graduates from hig school. I'm sure that would make the inner city much safer. By the way I am a gun owner. 2 shotguns, 2 rifles including an assualt rifle, 2 handguns.

Being a 26 year veteran and an avid firearms enthusiast, I would be the last to support public disarmament. The UN and even our own Law Enforcement angencies appear to be more intent on disarming the innocent than the guilty. During the LA riots, several National Guardsman resigned from the Guard in disgust when they were told their mission was to protect the looters from armed vigilantes. Many stores were not looted until the Guard disarmed their owners. In New Orleans, once again, the Police were more intent on disrming the innocent rather than hauling in the guilty. This however is where we part company. Christ is not in the 2nd Amendment business. He did make a reference to a man being prepared to fight if he knew when a thief was comming and also noted that nobody can pillage the house of a strong man but must first bind him (Public disarmament?) Niether are we however commanded to arm ourselves with physical weapons. While I myself would use whatever force is needed to protect my family and others, it is with the understanding that "The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of this Earth" It is not so much that I would advocate everybody to be armed but more so that I would refuse to condem one who used deadly force with "Failure to turn the other cheek". Finally, the entire essence of being armed is about not being a victim. Gun owners crying about thier gun rights in the same manner liberals cry for their right to sin doesn't seen to cut it. What we need is a viable alternative to increased regulation leading to public disarmament. I call it "Firearms discpline" Enforce the 2nd Amendment as it is written. Allow fellow gun owners to discipline criminals and reckless people under the UCMJ. Anyone who bears arms under alternative colors should be declared an enemy combatant and detained indefinately or until his gang / militia / organization formally surrenders. If all else fails, crying like a liberal victim is not the answer. To steal a line from King Leonitas in the film 300. "Americans! Surrender your weapons!" "Blue Helmets! Come and get them!"

It is unforunate that "The lie of central power being the solution to problems has been accepted by most of the population." In many cases, the problems have been prefabricated by government so they would have a "crisis" to solve. Especially in recent years, the tendency of most US citizens has been to delegate what would otherwise be personal or family responsibilities over to government, while they busy themselves seeking increased wealth. This delegation has come in the way of day care centers, public and private schooling, and increased government services of all kinds. Many Christians have even passed the buck to pastors and other Scriptural leaders in lieu of spending time with their Savior on a day to day basis. As Christians, how can we possibly believe that there is some security to having centralized leadership, when we are told that the only real security we can have is Jesus Christ? WE THE PEOPLE of this United States have slowly let our sovereignty slip away, rationalizing one exscuse on top of another. Starting from the top down, we need to extricate ourselves from the United Nations. We must demand accountability for any unconstitutional behavior on the part of elected representatives, which actually is tantamount to treason. This would include policies of deficit spending. Here is a simplistic story of how it is with the United States: There were a group of lazy barbarians who had little interest in work. Every so often they would ride into town to steal food, clothing, etc., then ride back out. They would live off the stolen loot until it was gone, then ride back into town again. One time when the barbarians were planning their attack, one complained, "You know, all this riding in and out of town fighting with people is beginning to feel like work. There has got to be a better way." Then one of the barbarians exclaimed, "I've got it. Let's just ride into town and stay. We can put up a building in the middle of town and call it city hall or the state capitol, and we'll use it as a hangout. We'll take baths and shave and dress up in fine clothes like respectable businessmen. Then we'll levy something we can call a tax. We'll tell the people that as long as they pay this tax regularly, we won't punish them." Another barbarian suggested that they could use some of the tax money to provide a few services for streets, schools, and courts, so the people would feel like they are getting something for their money. Yet another barbarian spoke up: "There are other gangs in this area. When they see how docile our taxpayers have become, they will probably try to ride in and take over. We will need to provide police and an army, to protect what is ours. The taxpayers will love it--they will think that we are doing it for them." George Cancilla
