Marriage is an institution established by God--not the State. There is no indication in the Bible that some sort of certificate or license was necessary for marriage, issued either by the State or by the local church authorities. There is much evidence however that Biblical marriages were made public. God doesn't abide by what laws man may contrive regarding marriage. He knows who promised what to whom; and He counts homosexuality and adultery as sin. The fact that the State or many local churches have chosen not to punish homosexuality or adultery, does not at all mean that God will not punish such behavior. God is usually patient and longsuffering with humans to bring fruits of repentance, but humans may still have to suffer worldly consequences for their iniquitous behaviors. George Cancilla
