Re: The Birth of New America Part I

For sometime now I have been thinking about this very area of 'Why has our country slid down this slippery slope of turning away from the Bible and the Author of the Bible. I think it may go back even a bit farther than WW2 to the time of the depression when the policies of FDR turned people from trusting in God to trusting in the government to meet their needs. Do you think this may be a possibility?

In large part it was the free enterprise economic system and the democratic republic political system of Old America that gave us the prosperity to enjoy a wonderful standard of living. Unfortunately, I believe those same ingredients brought greed to forefront in the minds of many--a "more is better" attitude. As a whole, the American people began wanting more than they could afford and extended themselves extremely far into debt. I say this to support the idea that these errors indicate a Bible illiteracy on the part of many. Instead of making decisions based on Scripture, many began to make decisions based on financial gain. It was relatively easy for the Supreme Court to get away with such decision as giving a woman the right to abortion, because it registers as an economic benefit, or so many might think. Besides, by the 1960's, media power, especially through the television, had the ability to sway and control the thinking of so many people at once, that even if they felt pricked by the Holy Spirit to go against these rulings, they were just as pricked to go along to get along. This is an important discussion that can uncover some root causes for a problem that needs fixing. Thank you. George Cancilla
