I am a Christian and agree with this artical along with the reader comments. With one major difference I think we are wrong to make this a Christian v.s. secular issue! We should attempt to involve all Americans who think that our great country is in trouble. There are a huge number of Americans who may not be practicing Christians or who are not as advanced as others in their faith who also need to be brought into the struggle to save our Country. All Americans indeed the world needs a strong, free, as it was ment to be America. Very good response. I agree mostly, but did you really mean to say Jesus did not speak of self-defense? Actually He did. I was in my 50s before these verses jumped out at me from the Bible. Luke 22:35-38.He said to them,"When I sent you out without a purse, bag or sandals, did you lack anything?" They said (the disciples)"No, not a thing." he said to them," But now the one who has a purse must take it, likewise a bag. And the one who has no sword, must sell his cloak and buy one." For I tell you, this scripture must be fulfilled in me,'And he was counted among the lawless'; and indeed what is written about me is being fulfilled." They said, "Look Lord here are two swords." He replied, "It is enough." Life Application Bible NRSV. Of course everyone knows Peter had a sword as he did cut off the servant's ear in the garden. So today some of us have a permit to carry a concealed weapon, which could be a gun, Pepper spray or a Taser. It is not our custom to carry swords. It seems Jesus commands his followers to protect themselves and that includes missionaries. While Jesus the Son of God walked among us the disciples were safe. But now we must arm ourselves to fight off evil even as we also fight the spiritual battle.

This article is excellent. Having either taught or volunteered in the Government run public schools for the past 25 years, I have seen the changes in students firsthand. One reason the Virginia Tech students didn't fight back at the "shooter" is because they were taught since kindergarten that if you fight back when a bully attacks you; you will also be punished. If a child is attacked by another student, no one except a teacher is allowed to intervene. This is setting up adult citizens that aren't allowed to fight off attackers either, they are told to call the police. When I was a child, I was told to fight back. Teachers taught that "Your rights end where my nose begins." I was a little girl but I knew if some bully hit me I was supposed to teach him/her not to do that and my father would back me up. Now teen age girls are routinely abducted at mall parking lots and they barely fight back and no one comes to their rescue. I teach my grandaughters that bad men are evil so if they try to abduct you go for their eyes, nose and private parts. Hurt them so bad they cry, kill them if necessary and then run like the dickens. I'd rather them sitting in jail than seeing their bodies on Tv being found in a field somewhere. This nation is turning into what the Bible calls effeminate. An example is the new term "metro-sexual". Its a "man" who is heterosexual but he wears makeup, gets his hair done in a salon, goes to the spa and is very sensitive. God help us all.

Chuck: Thanks for posting this at WVN because it is only when Christians have had enough will we stop focusing on ourselves and engage. Isn't this what you are really talking about: Body living, self sacrifice, standing in the gap, sticking our necks out and living our convictions? Yet most Christians are not much different than the unsaved except that we are more divisive and less tolerant. However our disdain has led to just what the enemy desired, seclusion and fear. When will Christians be salt and light, believe and confess, and act as if God is with us? We spend so much time waiting for God to write on the wall that we don't respond to what He has already written. We spend so much time arguing theology that we don't live it. We spend so much time hoping on the rapture that our kids will pay a dear price for our apathy. Let's come together and engage!

Why can't we understand, they are all Lib's. Democrat or Republican, they’re all the same.

My views exactly. Having lived in the United States for 73 years and watched several generations, I am appauled at what is happening and has happened to this country. We appear to have completely lost our direction and are like sheep being led to slaughter. I think Chuck hit the nail on the head, although I believe we can add the First Ammendment to the endangered list also.

Right on. I spent a hour or two reading the Home land security laws, this Illustrates exactly what you are talking about. If a president wants to, he or she can do whatever they want. I wish they had got rid of it. I notice now the Libs are in control there is no talk about getting rid of it.

Right on the money. These sobering thoughts are being heard more and more from leaders in conservative/christian circles. I have lived long enough to know that the article speaks the truth.

Excellent article! My prayer is that more and more Americans will see what is happening and stand up against the New World Order.

The reason that we have a different America is because we have allowed our government to unconstitutionally control our schools. Americans no longer know the basic tenets of Freedom. They no longer understand Natural Law or the purpose of government or what their inalienable rights or inalienable duties are. They no longer even understand that our federal government has NO powers other than those expressly enumerated in the Constitution. Most Americans do not know what our Constitution says or what its purpose is. Americans allow the government to use the Constitution against them rather than to limit the government. We now live under an unconstitutional, illegal federal government - the very definition of tyranny! Educate yourselves! Read the Constitution. Read "The 5000 Year Leap: Principles of Freedom 101" available through the National Center for Constitutional Studies. Wake up America! Wake up Church! Soon there will be no one left to protect the church's right to exist, let alone preach. Every church in America needs to open a free school NOW to rescue as many citizens as possible from the secular, anti-liberty, anti-American indoctrination of state controlled schools.

I certainly agree that this is not our fathers' America. I agree that most of our ancestors at least held to a Christian ethic, even if they were not outright Biblical Christians. I suggest that this Christian ethic is what guided many to have a toleration of heathen elements by misunderstanding the Word of God as loving thy neighbors as themselves, and turning the other cheek. Giving up one's firearms with the thought that God will afford the necessary protection to us or our loved ones, is foolish and not Biblical. The common law of God existed at the time of Moses, and people were stoned to death for violation of certain of those laws. Jesus said He would not want us to respond in kind as an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth, but He did not speak of self defense or punishment for violation of the law. For several generations we have been training ourselves away from the use of firearms, especially for use in self defense. Having a gun is of no effect unless a person has the proper mindset of when and how to use it. Had someone on the campus of Va Tech had a firearm and shot the offending gunman, it would have been, in fact, an act of love. We certainly must not be fooled into thinking that we can give up liberty for security, as Margaret Thatcher predicted we would do years ago. George Cancilla
