Hang on a minute about Canada and homosexuality. Any Christian in Canada can stand up and say that according to the Bible, homosexual practices are wrong. Churches can and do proclaim that homosexual practices are not tolerated in church members, in the same way as heterosexual practices outside marriage are not allowed. What is against the law in Canada is for Christians (or anyone) to call for homosexuals to be attacked or discriminated against by the state. Since I'm sure that no Christian would advocate violence against someone because they're gay, there really isn't a problem, is there? Sure, there are those who don't like what the Bible or the church says but as long as we act and speak in a Christ-like manner, they can't do anything.

Well...

We should not be more concerned with being comfortable than following Christ. In fact, we are to "take up our cross", so I doubt Mrs. Rische was promoting a comfort over God mentality. Nevertheless, keep in mind of a few things: Our country has been blessed because it affirmed God's standards (though not perfectly) in the laws made. We are now in the process (and are getting closer to completing this process) of throwing Christianity out as the norm, and evil living is being promoted like never before in America. Point? I'm saying that yes, we as Christians should take the bad times with the good times, but that does not mean that there isn't a reason for us to not be involved with culture. We should, as Christians, speak out against immorality and the govt. should make laws that protect the innocent and punish the wrong doer. Should homosexuality be legal? It used to be that no-fault divorce was also illegal, but look at what's happened today thanks to the Supreme Court! Divorce is on the rise (though it has stagnated a litle, but that, I think, can be attributed to the increasing levels of cohabitation). Has this been good for marriage or bad for marriage? Not really good at all (I'm not saying there aren't exceptions to divorce, which Jesus did give, but I'm talking about no-fault divorce). Statistics show how bad homosexuality can be in other countries (see Coach Dave Daubenmire's article on this, "Loving Homosexuals to Death"), so why should we allow it to happen here? Should we legalize sin? That's what homosexuality is, just like lying, stealing, murdering, etc. are. By the way, according to the dictionary I have here, sodomy is not only homosexual practices, but also bestiality (sex with an animal). So, unless the Supreme Court in Lawrence v Texas only homosexuality, bestiality is in too (if it's not, it may soon). Keep also in mind that countries that legalize homosexuality also make laws against speaking out against homosexuality (i.e. I cannot say it's wrong, unless I want to be jailed or fined), such as Canada. Was the American way perfect? No, but because Christianity was able to flourish in this country, things were stable culturally. Now we are in a time where Christianity and God's morals are bad. Shouldn't that be a concern for Christians? One more thing, God sets up what marriage is, which means that homosexual marriage is a counterfeit and is against God's way for marriage. Hope I didn't overwhelm you with this. Have a great day and God Bless!!

is this article saying that Christ intercedes on behalf of the 'american way', a way that apparently means homosexuality should be illegal? it seems to me that, in the gospels, Christ interceded on behalf of the marginalized and the oppressed. now, one might say that, if indeed this article's stance is sound, that Christians are now the marginalized and that Christ intercedes for us, but i dont think His perogitive is to make the American way the status quo. i believe, we are called to something more meaningful than that. the letters of paul outline a revolutionary way of living that goes so against cultural standards. it is not safe, which is what this American Way idea seems to be promoting. i guess i'm just concerned that we want to be comfortable more than we want the guidance of Christ. of course i'm guilty of this too, but it's important to remember that Christ was not white-middle class American. also.

We all know what's wrong, maybe in your next column you can suggest some changes Cristians could make in their behavior to show to the world we are different. Please help us. I have no church at this present time, my church of the last twenty-five years just went "Purpose Driven" and I had to withdraw my membership. Resting in his love and grace, Gene
