I think this is one of the best articles I've ever read on this site. I was impressed by the section on discernment, as well as the author's later example of Paul's teaching. This story about Paul is, I believe, an illustration of Jesus' second great law, 'Love your neighbor as yourself'. If you love your neighbor, you don't call him names, or do violence against him, but reach out in love, and nurture that which is good within him.

Finally someone has espoused an idea that calls Christians to redemptively looking at culture and our impact on it, both in engaging the lost where they are and also calling for balance and wisdom in our dealings with the teachings of the day. Watch out for people who will undoubtedly cast the stones at you for watching a "movie" or listening to music with a "beat" to try to stand on common ground with sinners. Your link to Mars Hill (the one in Athens from Acts 17, for all you who are looking to attack Rob Bell by name association) is something I have been teaching our students for 15 years. Paul understood his audience, found common ground, and was listened to - up to the point of the resurrection by some but much longer by others - because he related to them where they were. I commend your biblical call to engage our culture, and change it through teaching and a heart for the lost.
