i am not an obama supporter either. i don't trust obama on any matter. that being said tho he IS a very charismatic speaker. WHEN he gets saved and becomes a Christian - no he is NOT one altho he tries to claim to be - he will become an outstanding spokesman for God. we must pray that his heart be turned from his imperfect ways to God's perfect ways. we must also repent that we failed to uphold God's law and that we turned from God. we must then ask for His mercy and cry out to Him and humble ourselves before Him.
Racism, not policies

I realize that you don't consider the racism thing to be as central an issue, but Piper does. That is why he wept for joy. Obviously this weeping for joy was not over Obama's policies, because here is Piper, decrying some of them. Piper's an emotional guy, I wouldn't make too much of it. Certainly casting the judgment that he is "morally wrong" in acting this way seems kind of harsh. Weeping for joy is all about the motives, and we need to give him the benefit of the doubt. He is a man of God and we can't see his heart.
Misunderstanding Piper's Joy

Your comments make me think that you are unfamiliar with Piper. I'll put out there how I interpreted Piper's happiness.
1) Racism is a significant concern for him, and I interpreted his joy in Obama's election not as an endorsement of his policies ("drooling" as you called it), but as happiness in the fact that America seems to have taken another step in getting over its racism.
2) Piper never said he voted for Obama. I can understand where you might have inferred that, but I think it's a mistake. I believe Piper could have said "We will be the happiest people in the world that you are president" of anyone who had been elected, because he is confident in God's sovereignty. Piper knows better than any of us (certainly better than me) how to be happy in God, regardless of who's president.
3) Again, Piper was certainly not "drooling over what [Obama] stands for." Quite the contrary: Piper was publicly calling him out concerning his erroneous thought process, so this conclusion that he is somehow endorsing Obama or Obama's policies is mistaken.
To sum up: Piper is coming from a point of view that God is in charge and delights in all that He does, therefore Piper can be confident and exuberantly happy in all that he sees God doing.
What did you expect

I love John Piper and his messages.
If you voted for Obama, what did you expect? He was very open about his (and Dem party's) stand on pro-abortion.
Those who voted for him should repent for disobeying God's will by using their vote to continue or even increase the murders.
(Silly me! I forgot! The economy needed his help so that made murder OK.)
I think we are seeing the tip of the liberal iceberg.
Real Christianity, False Christianity, Muslim differences

I've suspected Obama was a Muslim at heart from the get go.
And:
It's been evident since he came on the political scene that he seems to be a Muslim at heart. Claiming Christianity doesn't make a person one, as Christianity isn't something we convert to. All 'religions' require one to convert, but to become a Christian requires God to elect US...HE does the choosing. He does this not because we earn it or because we are good enough, He does it because we AREN'T good (Bible tells us tells us, 'No one is good, not one,"), and if and when each of us become sorrowful, contrite, broken over our human sin, and not just the consequences, HE saves us. This President's sympathy for Muslims, who all believe the non-loving, killing endorsing book for those that won't believe in Allah, exposes them, including the president, that they do not know the living Christ, Jesus, and they are only building eternal wrath for themselves. (Truth is a who, not a what, and true Christianity is knowing Jesus.) But what are we to do about it as Christians? Desire to kill Muslims like they want to kill Christians? No, we are to love them and pray for them. We will do that. Do you see the difference, Mr. President, in real Christianity, false Christianity and the false religion of Muslims? God Bless you and your family and all our leaders, that He will have mercy upon you and help you to see your need for repentance and faith in Jesus Christ, your creator that lowered himself to humanity in order to pay the fine for your transgressions. You will not be able to make right decisions, or have the heart to until you personally know Jesus Christ. Few will find him, but He's offered to all all, that none would perish. Humble yourself today, he's finer that gold, your position, your everything.

I very much appreciate the ministry of John Piper; and his message against abortion and other social ills is greatly needed and welcomed. His commitment and encouragement to pray for our President is on target. However, I don't get it as to 'weeping for joy' over the election of, now, President Obama. He had already made very plain his plans to further promote abortion, homosexuality and socialistic policies. How can anyone rejoice? It matters not the 'color' of the man; his beliefs and policies trump all else. To be sure, I am glad that we once again had a peaceful transference of power from one administration to another. Yes, it is historical that a black man, (or mixed race man), is now our President. I am glad that such is possible. But to 'weep for joy' over the election of any man who stands for what this President stands for is confusing at best and, frankly, just plain wrong.
Sincerely, James Bell

I am a little befuddled. I am very much pro life. But, I am not pro obama. He sounded as though if it wasn't for obama's stance on abortion he would fall in love with him. If obama changes his mind on abortion, he would be the greatest man ever to be president. Sorry, obama is not a christian, his heart is hardened. He doesn't realize that it was GOD that placed him in office, not the liberal media that was drooling over him. Or voters looking for a change. Don't get me wrong, I would love for Roe V Wade to be overturned. I would celebrate. But for a pastor to stand at the pulpit and say that he voted for obama, that he would be the greatest president ever if he only changed his mind on abortion is repulsive. My pastor speaks out on abortion, gay marriage, sexual freedoms, etc. He's not drooling over the president or for what he stands for. What Obama stands for is not what my bible stands for.

defining "private family matter"

so is raping little children by a parent, uncle, grandparent, sibling, cousin also a private family matter? how about a parent or guardian selling that little child into sexual slavery? isn't that also a private family matter? how about beating a child even unto death - is this also not a private family matter? oh wait that's right these children are the "lucky" ones who actually got to be born. so why stop at only the unborn children mr obama? let's go all the way and just let anyone do anything to any child because after all why should we stop a private family matter because it interferes a little bit. let's make it easy on the courts and the police and we could actually get rid of a lot of unnecessary jobs by getting rid of child protective services. don't stop at the children though mr obama - let's go all the way to the depravity you so desperately want. get rid of all the laws against rape, theft, murder. why bother if innocent children aren't important why would adults be important? why not go through the hospital wards and start getting rid of the sick and elderly? are they next? how about the children and adults who are like trig palin-not perfect? who determines the value of one life? man? depraved, disgusting man? or a perfect God? i'm going with God. i bet He values every single little unborn life as much as He values every single born human.
