It's a Duh World

"Thank you for joining us. Here is this evening's news: Advertisers are now paying as much as two million dollars for a 30 second advertisement during the Super bowl. Experts tell us that they get good financial return on their millions because human beings are very much influenced by what they see and hear. Apparently, if a celebrity is seen buying or doing something, many will actually imitate what they see or hear. It seems that the biblical analogy of us being like sheep is applicable.

"Hollywood awarded its annual big honors last night for its best entertainment. Movies and television containing themes of violence, rape and murder have been extremely popular throughout the whole year.

"After a comprehensive study, experts are mystified as to why there is a rising tide of violence, rape and murder this year. Some have suggested that violence, rape and murder are tied in with diet or perhaps global warming.

"Thanks for joining us tonight for this news-break. Let's now return to the second part of the exciting award-winning movie, 'How to Rape and Murder, and Get Away With It.' Then stay with us for 'Murder With a Chain Saw, and 'How to Rape Your Neighbor.'"

TX 50. It is not ignorance of reality, but the truth of psychology, sociology, marketing and the Bible that Mr. Comfort uses. Mr. Comfort draws from overwhelming evidence of current and historical facts that prove ones behavior is profoundly influenced by what one reads, hears and observes. That influence is evident in what is commonly called peer pressure. Not only is one's behavior influenced, but what one believes is truth is also influenced. Even Hitler believed that if the people are told a lie often enough, loud enough and with enough conviction, they will eventually believe it. For one to assert that what one reads, hears, sees, and does not affect one's behavior would require the ďwilling suspension of disbelief.Ē TX 50, have you willingly suspended your disbelief? The only belief system in the world that relies exclusively on the voluntary surrender and humiliation of the believer is Christianity. All other belief systems allow the follower to regain pride after the follower performs rituals or behaves in certain manners. Christianity teaches that no one, ever, can ever do anything to earn Godís favor. One of the lessons ever Christian will eventually learn as they mature, is that they are still a sinner, still deserving of Godís wrath, even if their behavior has been perfect since they became a Christian. The Christianís only redemption is completely and exclusively in Christ alone. We never merit grace, it is free to any who accept it. The proud will never understand, for they do not want to understand. They would have to give up their pride. TX 50, I pray you will examine your motives, and realize that you are willingly being influenced (duped as in duh) by evil because you enjoy your pride. May you come to know His Grace. Rejoicing in Him always. Jim - St Charles, MO

I can remember before TV and movies were so evil. There were no children murdering other children. Now we have 5 year olds killing other children. I had never heard of a school shooting. But now we have Columbine and many other high schools, the Amish massacre, The VT and other Universities and now Northern Illinois. Where do you think these children learn to shoot others; TV, Movies and computer games. Lou

It is too bad that Ray has not consulted reality before writing this bit of fiction. Violent crime nation wide, including rape, murder, robbery and assault, have declined steadily since 1993, reaching all time lows in 2005. These are statistics from the U.S. Dept. of Justice and based in reality. Straw men are easy targets and surely make us feel superior, however they do nothing to further the gospel.

Which one...
