WHY do we judge?

because the Bible tells us to TEST ALL THINGS! and to publicly correct false teaching!

Yeah, I guess...

...all that stuff about repenting of sin and surrendering one's life to Christ...Yeah, that's probably totally unnecessary to tell anyone. As you can see, Mr. Colbert IMMEDIATELY became a Christian and demonstrated reverence for Our Lord.--Mrs. Pilgrim

What are we doing?

What are we doing here? I heard of Rick's "cop-out" in sharing the gospel and I wanted to know exactly what transpired. I am so saddened by my fellow Christians. Why are we so quick to judge? That is not to say that how Rick handled the interview was as sound Biblically as I feel it could have been, but we are not Rick's judge and jury. Who among us has missed an opportunity to share Christ with another person? I know that I am imperfect. We are responsible to God and God alone. Additionally, I would like to remind everyone that God is more that just love or anger. He is both just and loving. Who has never heard John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that He gave his only Son. That whoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life." God loved us so much that he found a way to make right the sin gap and save us if we will choose him. Christians, we are called to walk a fine line. We are to love others as Christ did without falling in love with the world. Judging and condemning other Christians may seem necessary but before you do, I would ask you to stop, pray and think. Sometimes we are called to discipline those we love but if you do not know Rick Warren-I do not-then what right do you have to condemn him or speak into his life. If a non-christian were to stumble into this site would they be drawn to Christ by our examples or repulsed? I love Jesus too much to intentionally be ugly and I hope that you feel the same.

I agreed, Rick Warren does not teach the Bible and the purpose of life is to glorify God. The only book you need is a Bible. A bible not the new verisons. II Timothy 3:1-11
(Vs. 8) explains what Rick Warren is all about. Saying the name of Jesus or God does not Nessarily make you a Christian. No knowledge of the truth. Looking in all the wrong places for answers. The purpose driven Life is a book about Rick Warren, not about God's purpose. Noah Preached 120 years: results 8 souls. Isaiah Preach 40 years: results Israel went into captivity. Jeremiah Preach about 43 years: results Judah is carried away to Babylon. God's purpose is to save those who repent and trust in His plan.
I say Rick Warren does not trust in God's Plan. Why! Because preaching the word from the Bible is the only method God gave man for the saving og His soul. John Chapter 6, Jesuse preached to thousands and all walk away but the 12. It's not about self improvement. Rick said that he was not a fundamentalist and that is very true. He said that a fundamentalist stoped listing and that was his problem. A fundamentalist is one who stops listening to man and listens
to God only. A-men If a man preach any other gospel let him be acursed. A man can curse you. No big deal because he can not make a curse so. To be acursed is to be curse by God who can make it so.

You write, "Who are we that we should tell our creator how things should be!". Fair point, but I'm actually trying to reflect what our creator is telling us about how he chooses us.

Lou, I'm not sure where you get the idea that I'm picking and choosing scripture. That's a strong presumption. I don't believe I'm doing that. You write, "There is no other way to salvation than for a person to give their whole life to the Lord Jesus Christ" - I believe that theologically and even philosophically, but please, I ask you to name one person in all of history who has actually 'accomplished' that outside of faith in Christ. If it weren't for the grace of faith none of us could experience salvation.

"Jesus hung on the cross so that all could be saved"
- I agree; he chooses everyone...that's why if Steven Colbert asks Jesus to come into his life, Jesus will do it. It is by grace that Stephen has faith to ask the question.
"We think we know God...how pathetically prideful is that!"
- That seems overly harsh to me. Scripture says that we are created in God's image (imago dei) which is a deeply profound and theological concept. Perhaps the more we know and understand ourselves (including the miraculous senses which God created into us), the better we will know God. I imagine that God is pleased with our desire to know him, particularly when that knowledge is dynamic, exploritave and fresh. St. Augustine prayed, "Grant Lord that I may know myself that I may know thee better." We seem to have lost that discipline, discounting our humanity (and spirituality) and focusing only on loving God and others. We sometimes forget that Jesus taught us also to love ourselves with service, grace and humility.

THOSE WHO GIVE UP THEIR LIFE WILL GAIN THEIR LIFE

Dear friend; we can not pick and choose which part of scripture is true. Jesus said those who hang onto their life will lose their life. Jesus said it and it is true. Jesus also said, whoever gives up their life will gain their life. So no one will enter heaven who has not considered the cost. The cost is NOT suffering for what is paid for by our suffering. We gain by our suffering. When Jesus said to consider the COST He was referring to our life. We have to give our whole life when we SURRENDER to Jesus. We will try to gain some parts of our life back as we see our life play out. But if we truly gave our whole life to Jesus then it is all His and He in His grace will not give it back. If He did we would all be lost. But He holds in His hand what we gave to Him. There is no other way to salvation than for a person to give their whole life to the Lord Jesus Christ. Lou
