I am truly in agreement with this feedback, it truly is the hippie movement all over again, mixed with a lot of other equally penicious doctrines of demons.
Todays society has squelched any desire in these young people to seek with their whole heart to find the Lord and it is to their detriment. Laziness and sloppiness is the order of the day. Political Correctness clouds their thinking and assesment skills. It's the "Whatever" generation, truth is all relative and can never be known. Everthing is subject to man's thinking, making him judge of all things.
No wonder this nation finds itself in the moral quagmire if demonic diversity.
It is the same mixture that God warned Israel about in the O.T. God has always warned agianst mixing His Word with any other doctrines.
Jesus said that He was the only way to the Father and anyone trying to come in any other way will be counted as a thief and a robber.
It is also written that there is a way that seems right to a man, but the ends thereof are the ways of death.
Mt 7:13-14 NLT " You can enter God's KIngdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and it's gate is wide for the many who choose the easy way. but the gateway to life is small, and the road is narrow, and only a few ever find it".
This movement, in my opinion, is the road that leads to destruction for all who choose the try to make god into their own image.
Some may say this is not very loving and not accepting of their way, but the Pharisees and the leaders of Jesus' day said the same thing of Jesus.
When people are perishing for lack of the truth, the loving thing is to give them the truth without the candy coating they love so much, before it's too late.
Gods Word is the Answer.

Every question you just asked is found in the Bible. If you read the Word, you will find your answers. The problem with most people is that they don't like admitting the authority of the Lord, that God's ways are not our ways. He is the Supreme Creator. He has told us what is right and wrong. He has given us a choice, believe in Him and be Saved or be judged and sent to Hell. I myself do not want to spend eternity in agony separated from God. I do not believe most people think about what that separation would be like. Seek the Lord and you will find Him. Submit to His divine authority and you will live forever with His loving presence. He does not want us to spend eternity in Hell without Him, that is why Jesus died for us. It is up to us to choose. In Christ- Rene'

I used to think this as well until I realized that they did have "heads" of churches, so to speak. Most of the New Testament consists of letters Paul wrote to churches to get them back in line. Obviously someone reported to Paul what was going on in these churches. When Paul could not go he would send someone such as Timothy. There does have to be a certain level of accountability or a church (such as the emergent church) can get off track and twist the Bible to meet their needs.
Jesus said, "I tell you the truth..."

Over 100 times in the Gospels Jesus used a phrase: "You've heard it said, but I tell you the truth." He said to be careful who you listen to. He also said that we would be accountable for every useless word that comes out of our mouths.
The essence of the emerging church is not walking in the fear of the Lord and studying the scriptures to be skilled in keeping the faith and speaking the truth in love. It's not going into the whole world and teaching others exactly what Christ taught the apostles. It's the 60's all over again: question everything, base your beliefs on how you feel, reject anything that smells of authority, and if it doesn't move you it isn't "real", etc. I lived through the 60's and remember it well. This is a recycled version of "love the One you're with".
The apostles asked Jesus what the sign of His second coming would be. He replied, "Watch that no one deceives you". The emerging church fits every description that Jesus and the apostles taught us to be wary of.

Like you I had given up on church. My spouse and I attend Mosaic in Chattanooga. We don't call ourselves emergent - but we are part of that movement. I am middle age and one of the "old guys" at our church. Sometimes the music is a bit much, but the Holy Ghost moves here and such love - such Christian brotherly love I have never seen before.
Big scrolls or serious memorization

The only part of your statement that I would like to comment on is the joke about Jesus and his disciples carrying around large Torah scrolls. If you consider this, it is really a silly statement. Men in this culture spent years memorizing the Torah beginning in boyhood. Jesus would not have to carry around a scroll - he had it hidden in his heart.
So my question to you is this, "Do you take the scripture as seriously as Jesus?" I think that by your statement you are suggesting that the Torah really didn't matter to Jesus and that authentic living was what really mattered. This could not be farther from the truth. Just a quick glance through the gospels will show how much Jesus utilized the Law and the Prophets. Of course he didn't pull his Torah scroll out and say, "Hang on a minute!" while he was referring to a text during the sermon on the mount. He didn't have to.
My point in all of this is to say that if you or I or anybody in the Christian church took the Word of God as seriously as Jesus and his disciples then we would be memorizing it by chapters and books, not by verses. When you get to this point, then you can leave your Bible at home like Jesus did.

I totally agree with this brother.Although we are to be cautious about "new/unusual/ controversial" ways to worship, why be so hateful to brothers and sisters? God alone knows their HEARTS so we are to pray for any evil to be exposed, but all truth to be proclaimed. Let's drop the accusations towards individuals and expose only the heresies.

So the Emergent Church encourages questions? Do they provide any answers? What I have observed is that they do not. In fact they seem to be offended at people who do have answers. God's word has the answers.Traditional churches with all of their faults have generally been good about helping folks find those answers. One poster said not to "throw the baby out with the bathwater" concerning EC. I would say that about traditional churches.
Wow.

I'm sorry they just said what they said to you. Subscribing to a detailed list of what you must believe to be a "christian" is not what God is about. In fact, Jesus condemned the pharisees for asking just that of the jewish people. It is one thing to say, "God, I will follow you as long as x y and z aren't true." It is another thing to say, "God, I want you enough to explore your heart and discover truth. And if I find that x y and z are actually true, well then I'll believe them." You sound to me like the second statement, but many confuse it with the first. You have faith in God, you are not sure (it sounds) like you have faith in the answers to tough questions that many believe without thinking things through for yourself. That is okay. The goal is to seek God, not to have a Christian worldview, and have all the "right" answers. If the goal was to have all the right answers, all of us writing here on this forum are in a lot of trouble.
