Don't Fill in the Blanks

The following hot email was sent by an atheist to our ministry, and ended up at the desk of Mark Spence (the dean of the School of Biblical Evangelism) around the middle of 2007:

"You're a real blank you degenerate scum . . . so don't you ever blank tell me anything blank you're probably a blank child molester you worthless coward don't give me your blank blank lies about best intentions you guys are just too blank blank self-centered to do anything and that is the fact I never hear anything Biblical come out of your filthy mouth you brainwashed Nazi."

Instead of deleting the email, Mark responded kindly, and found that the man was upset because he was in pain, and couldn't afford medical treatment. We mentioned his dilemma in our monthly newsletter, and some of you kindly stepped up to the plate. Thank you. Here the man's latest email:

"What I wanted to tell you was thank you very much for doing what you did in spite of my insulting behavior. One very kind man . . . paid for my MRI and a few doctor visits to get the reports done. Also another one of your readers made some donations for my medical bills which was very Christian of him . . . so thanks very much, you have made a difference in my life and so have those others who helped out a complete stranger. It's unfortunate that only a small percentage of people who call themselves Christians actually act like it and have the actions to back up their words . . . thanks and take care."

We have rights...
Posted On: 12/17/07 07:30:16 PM Age 55, MD
However, honestly speaking, we have more 'wrongs' than 'rights'. 1Co 6:20 states: "For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's." Besides, after considerable coercion from some well-meaning associates I reluctantly, albeit prayerfully contacted a "Christian" lawyer who never returned my query. And far more importantly, God made it quite clear that He was placing me aside from the whole job-related rat-race thing(if you will),and setting a new course and purpose for this servant. Since then, Matthew 6:25-34 is being continually brought to bear as is Philippians's 4:6-7. He has most graciously made provision in innumerable, unfathomable and miraculous & timely ways! He has given the confidence to speak to a demanding landlord and others to keep them at bay. And now with a new challenge to face,Re: the landlord just died and as of 1.15.08 or perhaps sooner, I could be on the street! My prayer is that through it all I'll be able to apprehend wholeheartedly the words of Job in 1:21-22 - "And he said, "Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked shall I return. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD." In all this Job did not sin or charge God with wrong." And that He will ultimately be truly glorified and well pleased with His servant. To that end and by His grace alone, I remain...HIServant & Yours, Danny G.

What do we truly own?
Posted On: 12/16/07 03:02:07 PM Age 55, MD
Dear Very Strong, I am going through a similar situation myself.I was physically assaulted by a supervisor for complaining and lost my job also, W/O a regular job or insurance since 1/26/07. But within days of that occurrence, our gracious Father humbled His servant under His mighty hand and brought me to my knees in tears as He exposed to me exactly why all this had to happen. Intrinsically, it was arrogant, self-righteous pride. I believed I deserved better and that all my complaining to the management was actually grumbling against Him (see Exodus 16:8). He purposefully placed me there amongst the unregenerate and back-slid to be 'light & salt' in a dark and unsavory world, and I didn't like it, not one bit. So I was unable, no rather 'unwilling' to hear the Holy Spirit when He was patiently attempting to relate to me to,pardon the expression...chill out! That all this is not about me(or you, Dear Brother), but Him, completely & utterly. I look back now and wonder how much damage I've caused. How much more shame my actions have contributed to an already shamed & ridiculed Name (no thanks to 'yours truly'). We've got to remember Brother, that it's His Name, His Plan, His Purpose, His Heart's Desire and His Glory that we are here. We can either surrender all our 'rights', our abilities and talents, our 'stuff'(which is all His to begin with)...everything, like the Master did, and in turn 'rest in Him', knowing He has it all under complete control, or we can continue on in the way that seemeth right to us and suffer much more than we have to. I know it's easier said than done, no question about that, but if we can encourage one another with the words of experience that was worked-in and walked-out by way of the Cross, then perhaps it may save you & others some grief. So... Be Ye Encouraged and Blessed with the knowledge that He is on the Throne and reigns forever and forevermore! And the fact that we are still breathin' is proof that He hasn't thrown us to the dogs yet! (Although the enemy of our souls would have us believe He has). HIServant & Yours, Danny G. at [email protected]

To what purpose?

Exodus 16:8 “And Moses said, "When the LORD gives you in the evening meat to eat and in the morning bread to the full, because the LORD has heard your grumbling that you grumble against Him--what are we? Your grumbling is not against us but against the LORD." Matthew 5:45b “For he makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.” Romans 8:5-8 “ For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God's law; indeed, it cannot. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.” Matthew 5:13 "You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet. Colossians 4:6 “Let your word always be with grace, having been seasoned with salt, to know how you ought to answer each one.” Matthew 5:14 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.” Luke 16:8 “The master commended the dishonest manager for his shrewdness. For the sons of this world are more shrewd in dealing with their own generation than the sons of light.” The verses in Exodus 16:8 and Romans 8:5-8 are befitting “the atheist”, as is part of Luke 16:8(You can guess which part). On the other hand, those in Matthew 5:13-14 and Colossians 4:6 concern the Redeemed, as well as the remaining part of Luke 16:8. And Matthew 5:45b is self-explanatory. **Sometimes the 'door' to a persons heart gets shut after receiving what was wanted as opposed to what was truly needed, blocking entry to the King of Glory.

The rest of the Story

Many times we must meet the physical needs before the lost will accept that they need salvation. If someone is more concerned with filling their belly than their spirit they will not listen or be receptive of the message. I have worked with Christians who will point out that there are those out there who take advantage of the Christian but we can not let them discourage us in our endeavors. One of the things that I have found to have an impact is that with those who are seeking financial assistance is not only to help but to assist by teaching stewardship of what they have. This has become a very effective outreach in our area and opened many doors that were previously closed. (Truett)

Brother, I hate to recommend that you threaten to or take legal action against your former boss, but he isn't allowed to submarine you like this. Please contact an attorney as soon as you can--if you can't afford one, try a local law school's legal-aid clinic--and see what recourse your state offers. I'll be praying for you.--Mrs. Pilgrim

Yes, he may say the rest of "them" are hypocrites- Would he be wrong? How many "Christians" go to church every Sunday and act as if they have done God a favor for the week by showing up and not serve others? Why do 20% of the church do 80% of the work typically? And are we not ALL hypocrites at some time or another? I say kudos to the Christians who stepped up to the plate to do what God has called us to do. If the around 80% of people in this country who called themselves Christians did this, there should be no one in need.

1 Cor 1:22-23 "For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;" I could add another demographic: "and unto the postmoderns hatespeech." Paul took Jews back to the Law to convince them of the need to be forgiven so they could appreciate the Good News; Greeks needed to be taken back to Creation so they could know God and then the importance of Christ. We live in a postmodern generation, sensitive to the viciousness of the world and the failure of the church. They don't know it, but they seek God's Love and they won't listen to us until we show it personally through our actions. That's why I think Christians make a big mistake when they pickit, "Abortion is wrong!" outside Planned Parenthood; or "Homosexuality is a sin! Repent! Jesus Saves!" at a pride march. At best they are ignored, at worst they're charged with "hate crimes." We must figure out a way to make them our friends or do some major service for them. Help single mothers, volunteer at a shelter or Habitat for Humanity. Only then will they eventually want to listen to the Gospel.

It is impossible to help all.

I am a Very strong Christian. I was recently fired by a "super christian" who doesn't work on Saturdays but he set me up then fired me for doing what he told me to do and is lying about the quality of my work so I haven't gotten a call in over a month of job hunting. Now I am going to move onto the street and lose everything I own. Secondly - Jesus said that there will always be poor people. Do not blame Christians for poverty, it is impossible to help all.

Why more "Christians" don't act like it!
Posted On: 12/12/07 04:33:36 PM Age 47, PA
The reason why more "Christians" don't act like it, just as the man asserted, is really simple. It's because, only a small percentage of those who profess to be believers, really are believers. It was the same in the Old Testament with the Jewish nation. It was and is "the remnant" who are the true believers and that is always a small percentage of the whole. "Faith without works is dead!" We are not saved by them, but we were saved for them. Eph 2:10

Bless them...

Thanks to some real Christians (those who obey our Lord from His grace given ability) a man saw this command our Lord obeyed! Can you imagine if we all just walked this one thing out? Matthew 5:43-45 KJV "Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust." Thanks for the witness Brother and Sisters!
