The NEA Lists Its Goals And Democrats Agree

by Phyllis Schlafly, August 22, 2007

Some critics have complained that the issue of education has been conspicuously absent from presidential television debates. But the Democratic candidates did sound off with their pro-federal-government, pro-spending policies when addressing the annual convention of the National Education Association, and the nation's largest teachers union liked what they heard.

Senator Hillary Clinton told the NEA delegates that she will fight school vouchers "with every breath in my body." Reiterating the message of her book "It Takes a Village," she called for universal preschool for four-year-olds.

Senator Barack Obama likewise inveighed against "passing out vouchers." Former Senator John Edwards also announced his opposition to vouchers and proposed that the federal government pay college tuition for all students who will work ten hours a week.

Governor Bill Richardson wants to "raise teacher's average minimum wage to $40,000 a year." Rep. Dennis Kucinich goes all-out for "a universal prekindergarten system which will provide year-around daycare for children ages 3-5."

All Democratic candidates look forward to increased federal control of and spending for public schools. And they all attacked George W. Bush's No Child Left Behind law for not appropriating more funds to implement it.

After cheering the promises made by the candidates, NEA delegates buckled down to the serious business of spelling out their political goals, many of which have nothing whatever to do with giving schoolchildren a better education.

The NEA demands a tax-supported single-payer health-care plan (socialized medicine) for all residents (a word artfully chosen to include illegal aliens). The NEA supports immigration "reform" that "includes [note: this is a change from last year's verb "may include"] a path to permanent residency, citizenship, or asylum" for illegal aliens.

For many years, and again this year, the NEA urged a national holiday honoring Cesar Chavez. The NEA must have forgotten that Chavez, a strident advocate for farm workers, vehemently opposed illegal immigration because he knew it depressed the wages of U.S. citizens and legal immigrants.

The NEA supports a beefed-up federal "hate crimes" law with heavier penalties. The NEA wants federal legislation to confer special rights on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity and expression.

The NEA passed at least a dozen resolutions supporting the gay rights agenda in public schools. These cover employment, curricula, textbooks, resource and instructional materials, school activities, role models, and language (with frequent use of terms such as sexual orientation, gender identification, and homophobia).

The NEA enthusiastically supports all the goals of radical feminism, including abortion, the Equal Rights Amendment, school-based health clinics, wage control so the government can arbitrarily raise the pay of women but not men, the feminist pork called the Women's Educational Equity Act, and letting feminists rewrite textbooks to conform to feminist ideology.

The NEA supports statehood for the District of Columbia. The NEA supports affirmative action. The NEA calls for repeal of right-to-work laws, which allow teachers in some states to decline joining the NEA.

The NEA supports United Nations treaties, especially the UN Convention on Women, the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, and the International Criminal Court. The NEA loves global education, which promotes world citizenship and taxing Americans to give away our wealth to other countries.

Another NEA favorite is environmental education, which teaches that human activity is generally harmful to the environment and population should be reduced.

Here are some of the things the NEA opposes: vouchers, tuition tax credits, all parental choice programs, making English our official language, the use of voter ID for elections, and the privatization of Social Security.

High on the list of NEA policies that actually relate to education is opposition to the testing of teachers as a criterion for job retention, promotion, tenure, or salary.

The NEA wants the right to teach schoolchildren about sex without any interference from parents, but on the other hand wants its pals in the bureaucracy to regulate all homeschooling taught by parents. The NEA opposes allowing homeschoolers to participate in any public school sports or extracurricular activities.

Two of the NEA's favorite words in its resolutions and policies are diversity (that means teaching that gay behavior is OK), and multiculturalism (that means stressing negative things about America and positive things about non-Christian cultures).

The exorbitant dues that teachers pay to the NEA enable its well-paid staff to lobby Congress and state legislatures in behalf of all these goals.

Heh. As for myself, I will happily send my children to public school when they can provide the following: 1. Attention to every child's education, on an individual basis; 2. Every instructor holding a doctorate; 3. Complete personal security for every child; 4. Absolute maximization of every child's potential; 5. Healthy meals, tailored to individual needs, which are guaranteed to be made of quality products; 6. Good manners, and a "socialization" which teaches how to deal with adults, not children; and 7. Freedom from peer pressure. Why do I demand all of these? Because I can already provide them myself, by homeschooling. Should I settle for less?

Yep. You are right. But now the sad part...

Have you noticed how few have made comments here on this article? What about the Those of us that wish to home-school? We cannot do so in a vacuum either. We MUST continue to preach loud-and-long against the ungodly perversion of our children's souls by the Humanist-Liberal-Communist educators. How many of you that read this are in support of the humanist (anti-Christ) system of 'education' that wishes to rule us day by day? Who likes the Time Life 'educational' productions and media? Who knows someone that works for the school system? Who do we know that 'unwittingly' supports the school system by joining its workforce to get 'good benefits'. Who amongst us has any conscience? If we go along with it, work with it, embrace it, then it will have sucked us into its supporting clutches and we will have financed it. It will not be good enough on Judgement Day to say, "Well, I had to feed my children..." I can just see the parade of lost lives before you just as you are making such a confession... "Inasmuch as you did it for (to) the least of these little ones..." The Humanists rule holly-weird and education and are so out of touch with our Christian reality, yet an estimated 20 billion every year goes to this cess-pool of mental depravity.. FROM CHRISTIANS!! (Or compromised christians). It is totally NUTS to say you are a Christian, yet can be involved in the Teen-Pimp shows put on by media entertainment. It is not entertainment, it is TEMPTATION!! You will all be quick to look askance at some man who is labled a 'pedophile' for having picures that are SO SIMILAR to the media presentations, yet you turn a blind eye to lewdness in public. I'll bet you don't say much at the church picnic when scantily dressed teen girls cavort in 'water-activities' with under-dressed young men. You call it FUN! Just like holly-weird calls it 'fun' when gays parade in 'loving relashionships' across your TV screens. So. I ought never give a diagnosis without an accompanying cure. The cure: separate yourselves and RESIST EVIL. (It can be done, my Bible says so anyway.) PGW

I have used Phyllis Schlafly's work re NEA for 35+ years as support for speaking out against and public school system. In the last few years, I've used her work as research for articles I've written for Letters to the Editor, long Viewpoint articles, and Newsletters. We must STOP just reading about this horrendous atrocity that has completely taken over our children's lives to the sacrificial altars where we have ot only aborted our babies but aborted millions of souls to their lost drop-out status that they suffer from for the rest of their lives. ALL THANKS TO THE NEA. WE MUST STOP!!!! THEM NOW OR WE WILL LOSE OUR FINAL CHANCE TO DO SO----WE ARE ALL BUT A SOCIALIST COUNTRY NOW DUE TO THEIR PROGRESSIVE, SILENT, DECEITFUL SUBVERSIVE, TAKEOVER OF OUR PAST TWO GENERATIONS. THAT'S THE ONLY!!! REASON WE ARE LOSING ELECTIONS---OUR CHILDREN HAVE BECOME LIBERAL DEMOCRAT SOCIALIST VOTERS NOW. ARE WE TOO LATE IN WAKING UP AND DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT???? I FEAR SO.

No real surprise with their agenda. The NEA is only sliding further down the slippery slope of ungodliness and unrighteousness. The sad truth is that the U.S. Government (you know those officials elected by the people, who are supposed to represent the people, and serve the people), is only interested in taking more of our taxpayer moneies to fund worthless agendas that teach lies or teach nothing and all that most Washington D.C. bureaucrats serve is their own bank accounts and their lust for power. The government's idea of dumping more money into Public Education has never worked and never will work to educate our children. The money never gets past the educators at the top and the NEA. God (His truth) and corporal punishment has been removed from Public Schools and that certainly has helped a great hasn't it? -- NOT! And what irritates me is that three-fifths of my property taxes go to our local school board. Our youngest son is 34 and none of our four sons went to these public brainwashing institutions. After my wife and I trusted Jesus Christ as Savior in 1974, we enrolled our children in Christian Schools and all four graduated from a Christian High School where the truth was taught. Frankly, I angry and tired of funding a "educational" system that is not teaching our children the truth and is not teaching many of the high school graduates of these public schools even the basic essentials of reading and writing. When are people (grassroot Americans who fund this ridiculous atrocity with our tax dollars) going to say - ENOUGH - and stand up and stop supporting (financially) the lies and godless brainwashing called Publis Education? Sincerely, Dr. Larry E. Teboe Pastor and Christian University Professor

For those of you that have just joined the planet Earth... this is NEWS. Bad company corrupts good people. Where did I read that? Well, while we have all been busy improving our lifestyles, the Humo-crats have been feathing their nests in hell with the soft downy trust of our children's hearts. For those of you that were asleep at your posts for so long, I must inform you that The Humanist Manifesto is quite clear on all the major points of this article. The Manifesto has been updated a couple of times, but its import is the same. It was NOT the NEA that wrote it, but it was the authors of the Manifesto that wrote the NEA Charter. The Humo-crats continue the cause. You might ask, why cannot we change the education system? Answer me this: WHY HAS THE EDUCATION SYSTEM CHANGED US? Bad company, 24/7/365 that is intent on robbing you and your children of their freedom, will corrupt. IPSO FACTO. IT HAS! Sadly, PGW

The communist toltalitarian ideology has never been supported or promoted anywhere in the world so well as it has been here in the United States by the NEA. George Cancilla

PRAISE GOD THAT WE HOMESCHOOL AND LIVE IN A STATE THAT DOESNT INTERFER!!! When we were in ps and my daughter was in the 1st grade (1ST GRADE!!!!), she and I had serious battles re evolution. Her teacher told her...therefore it was gospel and I didnt know what i was talking about! Mind you, this was a lovely Christian woman who was teaching my daughter...but that curriculum was insidious and snuck into the classroom. Not only were the children learning the "fact" of evolution, but that mom and dad didnt know anything and the teacher knew everything. No matter how good the teacher, those textbooks and the curricula are dangerous...for the reasons the author discussed!!!
