DEMOCRATS LOOK TO SILENCE CONSERVATIVE TALK-RADIO AND CHRISTIAN RADIO

Posted: 05/16/07

Not "Fair" At All
By Gary Bauer

For years conservatives have been painfully aware of the liberal bias in "big media." On the three big networks ABC, CBS and NBC, the bias permeates everything from news shows to the entertainment programming of sit-coms and dramas. On cable, CNN and MSNBC are not just anti-conservative, their coverage of international issues consistently undermines the interests of our nation.

But in recent years the liberal "monopoly" has been broken. Conservative talk radio has been an incredible success, while Christian radio has grown and cable alternatives like FOX News have taken off, too. The left-wing agenda no longer has a free-ride - it has competition.

But don't celebrate too soon because the "tolerant" Left appears to be ready to use its new power in Congress to launch an attack on conservative media. The American Spectator, a conservative magazine, quotes an aide to Speaker Nancy Pelosi saying, "Conservative radio is a huge threat and political advantage for Republicans and we have to find a way to limit it."

That "way" may be to revive the so-called "Fairness Doctrine," which would require equal time for the leftwing worldview on every conservative radio show. The article goes on to suggest that the staff of far-out leftist Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) is investigating Salem Radio, the largest Christian radio network. And Rush Limbaugh apparently has a target on his back, too. The Spectator quotes sources saying, "We can't shut him up, but we want to make life a bit more difficult."

Ironic isn't it? The Left always presents itself as the tolerant defender of rights. It defends the right of Islamofascist imams to spout anti-American invective; it rallies to the banner of the local atheist, who insists his rights are violated if he sees a Christmas tree; it hyperventilates if a prisoner at "Gitmo" doesn't have his own ACLU lawyer and a government provided Koran.

But when it comes to conservatives, the Left doesn't hesitate to figure out how to use the power of big government to "make life more difficult." With your help, Campaign for Working Families will fight with every resource we have to stop Pelosi and company from regulating conservative news alternatives by putting her back in the minority

READER FEEDBACK

Need christians for national news story
Posted On: 08/21/08 02:17:24 PM Age 54, ID
Dear christians, I understand you have biblical scholars and know an amazing speakers. I am currently putting together a small group of ministers to assist me on national news. An organization affiliated with Salem communications has recently published an official press release which openly declares my biblical discovery to the world. www.eternaltruth.net This same sight can give you enough biblical evidence to investigate the validity of my claim. I have recently published my new discovery concerning a Bible prophecy about King Nebuchadnezzar's repentance process in Daniel chapter four. God blesses Nebuchadnezzar's land (Iraq) for future promises of freedom in the latter days with symbolic eagle's wings. If I can locate several people representing different denominations who can understand type and shadow prophecy this can surely succeed. I must be able to show a common continuity by such men as to the validity of my discovery before I can return to my media sources with a worthy news story. This requires a non denominational approach to possibly succeed. President Bush has an official fan sight on myspace. Each individual submission into his sight must be examined and carefully qualified before being posted publically on the Presidents sight. My video was approved today and was posted where it can now officially be viewed on the President Bush web sight. The Iraq war will be of major interest during the election period so this is rather timely and important. This may be a way for you and others to gain national recognition by helping us unite christian denominations during a critical election year for Americas future. If you are interested please feel free to view the video or call concerning any questions. Looking forward to hearing from you soon. Author Paul Gregersen 208-251-3519 www.eternaltruth.net

Isn't it amazing that liberals feel they are being bashed even as they bash. In the last 20 years or so that I have been interested in politics, the last seven have been so vitriolic from the Democratic side that it has become scary even to moderates. Why in the world do 90% of the country have to cater to the 10% who do not want nativity scenes, or prayer, or crosses. I, as a christian simply do not listen to an atheist or to other religious beliefs I do not adhere to. I don't go on a rampage against them through the courts. Who are the ones who are intolerant here?

It is clear to me that liberals are so afraid that morality and righteous living will triumph that they will say or do anything to stifle it. In the Old Testament it says, "Woe to those who call evil good and good evil." I believe christians ARE discerning this and it is time for them to rise up and say so. Another verse that comes to mind is Ps. 2:2 And the rulers take counsel together against the Lord and against His anointed saying "let us break Their bonds in pieces and cast away Their cords from us." I say it is high time liberal christians wake up and smell the coffee.

The issue isn't about what's being said, but the freedom to say it!! Bashing or not, it's free speech. If people don't want to listen to it, guess what, they don't have to!!! It's about FREEDOM, a constitutional right that our legislators swore before God to uphold. We expect them to do it!

First of all, they do not exhibit Christianity because they are not Christian radio shows. Informing the public of an alternate viewpoint is not bashing. I agree there shouldn't be bashing, but in all fairness I hear more bashing from the left than from the right -- they just bash the right. Secondly, the whole problem here is the encroachment on our freedom of speech. When one side tries to outlaw freedom of speech because they don't like what is being said, we will all have a big problem not unlike what citizens in Communist countries have to deal with.

Sir, They have indeed crossed the line and there is something very devious on the horizon. The McCain-Feingold Campaign Finance Reform Bill, signed into law several years ago, makes it illegal for 'special interest groups' to bring to the public's attention a candidate's position on topice of interest within 60 days of a federal election. And, the SCOTUS upheld that portion of the bill by a vote of 5-4. If that's not an infringement on free speech I don't know what is. Currently there are 2 bills that may be introduced before the Judiciary Committee this week. The first, HR 2093, is an amendment to the 1995 Lobbying Disclosure Act which attempts to regulate grassroots lobbying by requiring registration of lobbying group and detailed report requirements. There is another bill, HR 984, which would require the executive branch to detail any 'significant contacts' among private citizens who seek to influence any official action of the executive branch or any related officers or employees. Don't see any requirements like that for Congress. But, don't take my word for it. Go to thomas.gov, type in the bill number, and read it for yourself.

It is no surprise that our First Amendment rights are being challenged again. All you have to do is go back to the Campaign Finance Reform Bill that passed 4-5 years ago and the trend goes down from there...now we have further challenges with muzzling grassroots lobbying and now this. With that said, Mr. Bauer makes one critical mistake in that he equates being a 'conservative' with being a Christian. Now, the vast majority of Christians are 'conservatives' but not all 'conservatives' are Christians. God's truth does not change, but a review over the last 10-20 years will show that 'Conservatism' has changed. Its professors are way more is fragmented and inconsistent in their positions than they used to be. There could be many causes, but in the final analysis its clear that with Christians the problems lie with losing their ability to discern. In my opinion Mr. Bauer's article is a good example of that. We need to get our hearts turned from the political arena and turned back to the Truth. Not that we shouldn't participate in politics, we definitely should. But again, its a condition of the heart..."For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also".

I periodically listen to Hannity and Limbaugh on the radio just to see what they are up to. Most of the time they are doing nothing but liberal bashing. On a slow news day they may spend an hours complaining about how many times Nancy Pelosie blinks her eyes. My evaluation of most of what is said is that there is no social redeeming value in the content. Any radio or TV program that does nothing but bash the views of the other side of the isle is harmful to the society simply because there are hoards of people in this country that cannot think for themselves, so they climb on the bandwagon. I would suggest that these stations do not exhibit what I would call Christian behavior. If one cannot sell what they have to offer without bashing those on the other side, then maybe what they have to sell is of questionable value. Until our political parties learn to compromise, hopefully the ranks of those two parties will shrink and the more sensible independents will grow. Visious fighting amoung ourselves serves no purpose.

I am quite concerned about the the direction this country is headed. This will be very easy to make happen in the near future if Christians don't wake up and unite. There is also a bill in the HOUSE that THIS WEEK will probably be voted on to silence the grass roots groups from letting us know what is happening in Congress, which will make this very scenerio easy to push through to law. The Lobby Reform Bill - especially the Meehan and Shay ammendment to it will stop us from even knowing these types of things are going on! PLEASE call your congressman and strongly, but respectfully urge him to vote against the Meehand and Shay ammendment or this very forum may not exist in the future!

Artificial Issue

This is hyperbole. Clearly they should not be able silence free speech including the likes of Rush Limbaugh. But pleeease! Call off the calvary. There is no indication that they have actually planned to do something devious. Clearly they don't like conservative radio. There are ways that are fair to fight it. Until they clearly try to cross the line, take a chill pill. As for "Gitmo", I believe there a number of conservatives who are concerned with way this is being handled, believing it violates the way that we as Americans believe we should act. These are valid questions but there is not enough space here to go into it. I can only say that I was proud of our American system when the Supreme Court chided the Bush adminstration over their handling.
