The Duty of Discernment part 6 - July 12, 2017

Have you ever talked with someone or know someone who professes to be a believer and yet shows little to no discernment about spiritual and/or theological matters. Today we will look at a passage in Hebrews 5 and see that a lack of discernment is a real reason for concern.

Some wonder what good it is to have faith in God when He never seems to answer their prayers. Many lose what faith they have and give up on God altogether. In today’s message we look at the heroes of faith who believed God no matter what.

When our faith in God is genuine, it causes us to make choices in God’s favor. We willingly take the risk of being alienated from those around us when we choose God’s way over that of the world. That’s what Moses did, as we read in Hebrews chapter eleven.

Part 1: The Sin of Favoritism and the Good Ol Boy Club. Topic: What is favoritism, partiality, or being a respecter of persons? What does the Bible say about this sin? Why do people show partiality or favoritism? How is Christ our model in not showing partiality? How would we pick our friends if we were blind and could not see in order to be bias. Topic: We take your calls.

Tom DeWeese is the president of American Policy Center. Tom is one of the nation's leading advocates of individual liberty, free enterprise, private property rights, personal privacy, back-to-basics education, American sovereignty and independence and protecting our constitutionally guaranteed rights.

Tom joined Jim to inform listeners about a nomination made by President Trump that is of great concern. The nomination is for Assistant Secretary of Community Planning and Development at HUD (Housing and Urban Development). The man in question is Neal Rackleff who was formerly the Director of Public Housing for Houston, Texas. Neil is a partner in a law firm called Locke Lord, a firm that is a lobbyist that is pushing HUD grant programs/policies onto local governments.

What is AFFH? AFFH is social engineering based upon community regulation. It proposes that fair housing must be a prime consideration for every decision that is made regarding housing and development. It's meant to be a solution to discrimination based upon race, income levels, religion and national origin. Cities are being forced to do in-depth studies and then compile a report for HUD about what kind of diversity balance or imbalance the city has in every neighborhood and how the city plans to solve the issue.

Next, the community is required to bring individuals in who are members of civil rights groups, planning groups and others who have an interest in the outcomes. They are the ones that decide whether the city is in compliance or not.

The EPA announced that the Trump administration was moving to rescind the Waters of the U.S. regulatory rule that was implemented during the Obama era. This is an important move because Tom believes the Waters of the U.S. rule was a tremendous land and power grab by the Obama administration. They were basically using the EPA as an attack force by declaring nearly every 'mud puddle' a navigable waterway leading into ever larger bodies of water. This was then connected to the U.N.'s attempts to put together the Law of the Sea Treaty. It meant that the U.N. would then control all the water throughout the world. In other words, this would have been a major assault on private property rights.

The last issue Tom mentioned dealt with textbooks. Life Sciences Secondary School in New York City ordered that all textbooks be removed from the school. They claimed that books are antiquated, they don't have a budget for them, and that they would begin using e-books.

This caught Tom's attention because when you put information through technology such as e-books, that information can quickly be changed, erased or not even printed in the first place. Certain forces can make those kinds of decisions. On the other hand, a printed book can't be changed. The only way to get rid of the information is to burn it.

Guest: Shahram Hadian. Topic: Obama 2.0 in works? Muslim Brotherhood connected man running for Governor of Michigan and then the White House? Who is Abdul El-Sayed and what does he believe? Is George Soros behind Abdul El-Sayed at any level? Topic: What role is interfaith dialogue playing in Michigan? Topic: How has the defense of interfaith dialogue by so-called conservative evangelicals helped lay the foundation for someone like El-Sayed to actually have a chance at winning the governor’s mansion and then maybe even the White House? Topic: We take your calls including a lady who calls in from the road. She has never heard the program and had no idea who Brannon or Shahram was but wanted to thank them and speak about her former Muslim husband that is now a Christian. She wanted to encourage Brannon and Shahram to keep speaking truth on this topic.

On today's edition of PTIB Jimmy DeYoung has Col Bob Maginnis come to this broadcast table to talk about a number of geo-political issues that are setting the stage for the prophetic scenario found in Bible Prophecy to be fulfilled. Jimmy and Bob will discuss the G20 meeting in Hamburg, Germany; the meeting between President Trump and Russian President Putin; North Korea and their test of an ICBM; and if China can fix the North Korean situation; and the Qatar problem and if it can be fixed.

Pet Peeves (Part 4)

Listen in to Pet Peeves (Part 4)

Join us on Mission 17-19 as we expand our understanding of logical fallacies by observing some recent interactions on social media among Christians over interfaith dialogues with Muslims in a Christian church. It is instructive to note when one side of a discussion resorts to logical fallacy their position is weakened. We look at which fallacies are employed. All this following our launch from Genesis 16:7-13 and our Scriptural Scientist Spotlight coverage of John Wallis, English mathematician, theologian, grammarian, cryptographer, and philosopher!

We delve into James White's interfaith dialogue with a Muslim Imam and Phil Johnson's defense of this behavior. What happens when the defense of both the man and his actions rests on logical fallacy? What if the defense Phil Johnson relies on are the same kinds of arguments that have been used against Phil's own behavior and then dismissed by Phil as attacks? We'll briefly look at some of these as we look inside the church before looking outside as instructed in 1 Corinthians 5:12.

The following links are referenced in this episode and provide additional context to demonstrate a lack of consistency  and reason in regard to Phil Johnson's own criticisms of other Christians and his response to criticism in light of his current behavior regarding criticism of Brannon Howse in defense of James White:

The Duty of Discernment part 5 - July 11, 2017

Would it surprise you to hear me say that exercising Discernment should grieve us? It should. Today we look at Jude 3-4 to see why.

Dr. Russell Humphreys is a creation physicist and worked a number of years with the Institute for Creation Research when he was appointed an Associate Professor of Physics. He now works as an independent researcher and is on the board of directors for the Creation Research Society. He's the author of the book, 'Starlight & Time: Solving the Puzzle of Distant Starlight in a Young Universe'. He's had numerous articles published both in secular science publications as well as creationist publications.

At one time, Dr. Humphreys thought that maybe creationists had one or two things that might point to a young earth but the rest of the evolutionary scientists had all the evidence that the world is billions of years old. So the huge shock for him was just how massive the evidence is for a young universe.

The reason why he felt this way is because he was raised by a scientific minded but atheistic family. He was a 27 year old graduate student before accepting Christ as his Lord and Savior. In spite of that, for a year he went on trying to continue believing what he had been taught from youth; that the universe is billions of years old, that evolution happened, and that God was somehow involved. The problem he encountered was that as he read the Bible, what he was reading wasn't fitting too well.

After about a year he began getting his first books by creation scientists, at which point he came to the conclusion that he hadn't really looked at the evidence for the age of the world.

From there, Jim had Dr. Humphreys explain numerous scientific questions and evidences. Some of them include:

--How vast is the universe?
--How large is the Milky Way?
--What is the next closest galaxy?
--What about the 'Big Bang' theory?
--How has the estimate for the alleged age of the earth (13.8 billions years) been
--Is the universe truly expanding?
--What is meant by the 'winding up' of galaxies?
--What evidence do supernovas provide for determining the age of the universe?
--Do comets provide any evidence for the age of the earth?

This fascinating program also features questions and comments, both pro and con, from listeners.

We conclude our critique of Chris Arnzen and Phil Johnson's defence of the interfaith dialogue which occurred between Yasir Qadhi and James White. Is it ever ok to let a Muslim preach the gospel according to Islam? Do the ends justify the means?
