One of the passages of scripture that is almost a “given” in any evangelism program is Ephesians 2:8, 9 which states, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” In fact, most believers can quote Ephesians 2:8 and 9 like they can John 3:16. Ephesians 2:8 and 9 are powerful verses to contemplate when thinking of our salvation. However, right before Ephesians 2:8 and 9 comes Ephesians 2:1-7 which in my humble opinion should also be considered when sharing the gospel because it gives the very bad news regarding our unregenerate state which then sets forth the great news of God’s grace in Ephesians 2: 8,9. What is the bad news? I am glad you asked, as Paul sets it forth for us as we consider the theme of this lesson, from death to life! Ephesians 2:1-10.
