A well-known worldview organization sent out an article on December 23, 2016 entitled: What the Bible Says About Poverty. However, there is a MAJOR problem. The article references Matthew 25-35-40, Luke 4:18, Luke 6:20-21 and Luke 14:13 and not one of these versus is discussing the economically poor but the spiritually poor. A corresponding passage would be Matthew 5:1-11 which is known as the Sermon on the Mount. The poor discussed in these passages is one that is spiritually poor, spiritually bankrupt, spiritually unable to cover their own sin debt. If using these passages out of context is not bad enough, the so-called worldview expert goes on to quote Leviticus 23:22 for how Christians today should respond to the poor. The problem with this passage is that it is for the nation of Israel and not for the New Testament church. Why is this a very big difference? Why can we not apply the commandments to Israel to the New Testament Church? The answer to this question is vital for a proper Biblical worldview. The study and teaching of the Scripture is context is vital for a proper Biblical worldview.
